At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are on a three-day state visit to France. On the second day of their State Visit, the King and Queen attended a meeting with the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, at the Hôtel de Ville.
Afterwards, the Royal Couple and Brigitte Macron attended a lunch at the residence of the Belgian Ambassador, with Belgian and French actors from the creative and cultural industries in France. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde then visited the Sorbonne, where they met with Belgian and French students, as well as the rectors of European university alliances.
-Dorothe-

DeleteDespite your unfriendly and even schocking comments on Queen Mathilde, she and King Philippe are a royal couple that is loved in any other royal house and as well by the president of France as by the president of Germany and all other countries in Europe and overseas.
You say that her clothes are chosen very badly for a fashion country like France. Since two of her outfits until know are designed by one of the oldest French Couture label namely Christian Dior you also insult France. You also insult King Philippe by saying that his wife is not looking good on his side. King Philippe always said from the beginning of his marriage to Queen Mathilde that he and she were a team and they prove every day that they are still a fantastic team. They can be proud of their children who are also welcome all over the world because they are well educated by their beloved parents.

DeleteYou really gave an over- the-top reaction on somebody who just criticized the clothing of Queen M. and nothing more!
Gently gently with each other’s opinions 6:44!

DeleteShe was not just criticizing the clothing and it is not the first time either.

The top is great, but the hem of the skirt is too thick and heavy. She has a very tall figure and the skirt doesn't look good on her.
DeleteOoof, Anon 6 44. You are very easily offended!
DeleteWhile Queen Mathilde certainly stands out, there is something a bit too costume-like about her daytime attire thus far. I think the balance between functional fashion that stands out is sometimes difficult to find, but everyone else at that table/meeting is nicely dressed, but more realistically dressed. It's as though she is dressed to portray a queen, but it's a bit much and over the top. I feel like this is a photo shoot for the new Dior New Look vs. a state visit with real meetings with real people.

Aloise, you’re so on point, well said.
DeleteThe boatneck style of jacket is unflattering.
DeleteI would say that picture number 3 shows us that her attire is just where it belongs. Nothing more nothing less..

DeleteYou didn't see all the pictures of this state visit. Only a few pictures. There are other official Belgian websites where one can find a lot of pictures not only of the king and queen but of the whole delegation of ministers and business people who travelled with them to France. The pictures on these sites show also all the visits the king and queen have been made until now.
Totally agree. Thanks a lot.
DeleteI agree. To me it’s also on the fashion designer to advise her better. She must have told them about the occasions she is going the wear the ensembles. It’s a pity. She tried to hard I guess.
DeleteHe knows about the occasion he was invited himself on the state dinner in Paris.
DeleteThe color is fabulous but the belted waistline does her no favors

This is a very unflattering outfit on Mathilde. It makes her look much wider than she is. The skirt is too flared and the pleats don't help. The fabric also looks very thick making the outfit appear heavy. I do like the vibrant green colour and the hat is cute.
ReplyDeleteI too feel that the fabric is too thick. I think the outfit would be beautiful in a differnt fabric.
DeleteDior yesterday, Natan today. I think this looks like Natan's attempt at channeling Dior. As is so often the case, the Natan fabrics are stiff. This fabric actually looks thick. I can see where Mathilde was trying to go with this outfit, given that it has the same feel as yesterday's Dior, but it has enough Natan in it to keep it from being as much of a success as yesterday's look. I do like the color. Mathilde wears brighter colors very well, and she seems to enjoy wearing them. It is nice too see this bright green in the midst of all the deeper colors we have been seeing.
ReplyDeleteThis color shade of green is beautiful. The outfit overall, I love, but not the waistline.
ReplyDeleteOh my...I love the color which looks great on Queen Mathilde but... The fabric is the biggest issue for me--it is too stiff. It lacks movement. So that ends up making everything look big--big, wide skirt, stiff peplum, and too wide neckline. As for that peplum--its stiffness is exacerbated by it being too short. I don't think the peplum in this fabric does anything for Mathilde either. The potential this outfit had is lost in that fabric. I want to cut up that skirt and make it much more narrow in hopes of making it more flattering. On a positive note--the headband is good and I love how her hair was styled for it. Also, thankful for small favors--the narrow belt is good and stylish.

Here are the scissors for you Janet! I agree the material is BIG. She looks stunning but the material ‘s “bigness” is Disneylandish to my eyes. I shall have to hunt up a Natan interview and hear why this fashion house nearly always uses such stuff fabrics and in such high volumes… unless anyone has insight to share? - Grace
Delete@Grace Please share if you get any insight to the Natan philosophy! I have been wondering this for years.
DeleteQueen Mathilda looks beautiful in green; the headband is a nice addition instead of the hat’s usually worn, but overall the outfit is too wide and boxy, almost similarly to yesterday’s outfit.
ReplyDeleteMillie
Everyone is saying here that the fabric is too stiff. I can assure you it is not. I have a tunica in Neopreen (not by Natan but by a German fashion house) it is soft and is warm, you can wear it in the Fall and Winter without a coat. The neckline is one of the best necklines Queen Mathilde can have. If she is wearing a dress or a blouse that is closed until under her chin you are saying that it not flattering for her. Queen Mathilde looks good in bright colors. It is not because it is almost Winter that one cannot wear bright colors. And always these comments about her waist, well if it is not the hair of Queen Maxima it is the waist of Queen Mathilde. Everyone has the right to like something or not. But the way some bloggers express what they like or not is sad. Lucky there are some well educated people among them too who write down their feelings very polite.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, but a good fashion designer should know how to dress his/her client accordingly to his clients figure. Why else pay so much money….

DeleteOnce I saw an interview on television with Edouard Vermeulen, the designer behind Natan. He said that Queen Mathilde had an excellent taste and that he tried to propose her different possibilities when she came to him for a new outfit. But once she had made her choice and decided what she wanted nobody could make her change her mind.
Since Mr Vermeulen is not young anymore he has some younger designers who work for him, under his supervision of course. I don't know if that had influenced the style of the house of Natan or not.
Okay….a bit too much for me, but it works.
ReplyDeleteHer classical hair plays the costume a bit down and that is good.
Wonderful colour on Q M!
Anon 10:31
DeleteQueen Letizia is buying the majority of her clothes in high street boutiques. The few Spanish people on this blog are the first to say that she is allowed a little budget for her clothing because the King and she are receiving a monthly salary like everybody else.
It happened that Queen Mathilde also bought clothes from a Belgian ready to wear collection when she went on a working visit to Africa or Asia. Despited she looked very lovely the comments are always the same, wether she wears Dior, Natan, Armani, etc... or a simple cotton dress from a high-street brand. Lucky Queen Mathilde is a royal lady who is smart, intelligent, and does not listen to what others have to say about how she looks. She is achieving her work with interest, humanity, compassion, is always friendly and smiling while she is only human like everybody else and must sometimes have a lot of stress.
No to th colour. No to the style. No to the structure. No to the hairband hat. No all around except to the handbag, shoes and gloves.
ReplyDeleteYou just have to put a finger on the middle part of her dress and forget the belt, the peplum and this dress is so much better already. And then you widen out the neck and it’s just right. The color, the headband are great.
ReplyDeleteCe vert lumineux convient à ravir à Mathilde qui a l'air de beaucoup aimer ce style de tenue mais à mon humble avis, je le trouve trop lourd au niveau de sa texture !
ReplyDeleteI'm clearly in the minority here but I think she looks great. It's a very modern take on Dior and the Queen has the poise and presence to pull this look off.
ReplyDeleteAnon 16:46
ReplyDeleteMon avis m'appartient et n enlève en rien les qualités que vous lui prêtez. Je n' en doute pas une seconde que c est une femme intelligente et sympathique.
Love everything about the outfit, well maybe not the belt, but the colour is fantastic, as is the boatneck style. The fabric seems a bit 'thick', but the Queen can pull off most anything.
