From afar (such as in Photo#1), Maxima's outfit looks good and appropriate, but up close (as in the rest of the photos), it looks more suitable for evening cocktail wear. Apart from that, it fits her well and she looks good in it. Is it a re-wear?

It’s a bizarre choice for the event! Gorgeous but definitely a cocktail dress. The hat doesn’t go at all with it! She must have been in a hurry. MR

It was a 25 anniversary jubileum edition and took place in Noordwijk were the European Space Agency (ESA) has their headquarters in The Netherlands. As a queen she can dress like a queen. I think in The Netherlands people expect that from her.
There is also a trend nowadays among commoners not to dress up i.e. when visiting a restaurant on a weekday or even on Friday - or Saturday night. Older ladies like me, we dress up (a little bit) and we are laughed out by the youngsters. I always say by myself "better be a bit overdressed than be underdressed"

  3. Everything I look at an outfit like this I think "that's a bit much". Then I look at the happy faces meeting Q. Maxima and realize she knows how to dress like a queen for the crowd.

“Knows how to dress like a queen for the crowd” is such a good summary. She’s very clever, very well advised and seems to bring joy wherever she visits. - Gracd

That hat is giving Wizard of Oz vibes. The hat and dress do not go well together, but it seems she's using the hat to dial down the powerful pattern and evening material of the dress.

Good look but not great look from Queen Maxima today. The hat is too much for the dress although it looked good with the cape I saw her wearing on another site. The dress is beautiful but its not a daytime dress really--it's a case of Maxima heading into Maxed-out territory. Still, she has brought her charm, her engaging personality, and beautiful smiles so they make up for whatever fashion issues are here because the people look so excited and happy she has come for a visit.

Have to agree with the anonymous poster, crazy outfit, and certainly not professional to be suitable to the occasion.

You can call it a crazy outfit, no problem with that, but the second part of your comment is unfounded ... stay with fashion comments, please

      @ Edwina
Maybe in The Netherlands and also in the Royal House, one has other ideas of what is professional and what is suited to wear when and how.

  11. Très jolie robe mais qui est trop habillée pour cet évènement surtout avec l'apport du chapeau à large bord ; bien belle quand même !

The dress is a rewear by Natan. It is called the Monnet dress because the flowers are inspired on the Waterlelies a painting by Monnet. She has also wrinkles in the waist just like queen Mathilde although she is slimmer than queen Mathilde.

  13. Overdressed as offften, but basically a nice dress. Isn't she the royal lady who has the highest budget for clothing ? If such a question can be mentioned.

As far as I know no Royal House publishes the budget they have for the clothing of their members, be it the queen, the king, the princes or princesses. The only thing I know that in my country the budget for the royal family contains more than just the clothing and is calculated each year by the government. How they fill it in, I wouldn't know.

I like the pattern of the dress and appreciate that if she didn't want to style her hair...at least she wore it up. But the hat is ridiculous in style and just detracts from the pretty dress.
