On the evening of Monday, October 21, Queen Maxima and Princess Beatrix, of the Netherlands, attended the anniversary concert of Ton Koopman, founder of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir. The concert at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht was part of an international tour celebrating the 80th birthday of Baroque specialist Ton Koopman.

The concert program featured Handel’s oratorio Esther, the very first English oratorio. For this tour, Koopman prepared a new edition of Esther and conducted the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir from behind his harpsichord. Soprano Julia Lezhneva, countertenor Maarten Engeltjes, and bass-baritone Andreas Wolf performed the solo roles.

  1. Princess Beatrix looks wonderful here--that peacock blue is beautiful on her and she looks elegant. I gotta say--I'm liking that Beatrix Bouffant seems to have been tamed--not sure who convinced her to rein in the pouffy heights but this style is very pretty for her. Queen Maxima is maxing it out--I'm not too sure on this dress. It's sooooo busy with colors and patterns and ruffles or flounces everywhere. I think my natural inclination against busy prints is kicking in here but this is dress is too much so, sorry Max, I'm not a fan.

  5. I think Maxima's dress might have looked better in person than it does in these photos. It doesn't photograph well in this room and lighting. Also, because the print of the fabric is so busy and so colourful, I think the dress needed a much simpler design, and without any ruffles.
I like P.Beatrix's softer hairstyle that she has been wearing for the past few events that we have seen on this site. She looks more natural.

  6. Although I'm all for colours and bold patterns and sparkles and all at night events, that said it looks great ! - at the same time.. it looks a little too 80s..? Overall silhouette and all, something a little off. Perhaps more - for lack of a better word - pointy bra would have been brought more shape to the dress.

I'm sorry I cannot say more kind words on this choice of attire.. I like Maxima but I really wish she'd do these beautiful dresses justice.

    1. Yes. Maxima should have elaborate cosmetic surgery to fit your fashion eye. You know, you are so spot on and on point. No pun intended. Much like your father not pulling out, happy (for him) accident.

  7. I’m trying to figure out the configuration of Max’s dress. It looks like ruffles gone wild but it somehow works? I like the jumble of pretty colors and the ‘zigzag-ness’ of their arrangement. And it would be interesting to see it in motion. I think Max looks fabulous!

  8. I am sure some may think that Queen Maxima's dress is too busy or bold but for sure wouldn't this world be a boring place if everyone played it safe. I like the dress and would not expect anything less from her. The dress says

  13. The pattern, length, and ruffles of Maxima’s dress are not flattering on her. It doesn’t look all that great on the model, either, in my opinion. Her earrings look interesting (in a good way).
