  1. Without the benefit of a few more different views, I'm undecided about Mary's dress.
However I love Victoria's, Mrs. Budenbender's and Mette Marit's gowns. The silhouette of theirs look lovely, and the colours too.

  2. Although Mette Marit looks like a lovely lady, she often wears dresses that look like nightgowns. I think Victoria looks stunning.

  3. This time, I like the dresses worn by all 3 royal ladies in their very different styles. CP Victoria’s is my favourite. However, the clear winner for me is the dress worn by the German President’s wife. It’s stunning

Paloma.

  5. CP Victoria looks stunning, love the dress, her hair and necklace, just wow. QM different style for her, not sure if I like. CP Mette dress is okay, though I think I would of liked it better sleeveless or with longer sleeves. Regardless they all look lovely

  6. Mary looks great in red but not sure about the style of her dress. The material looks stiff and the entire outfit looks oversized and a bit clunky. Victoria looks absolutely smashing in her purple velvet gown that accentuates her trim figure. Mette Merit looks very nice and I like the purple, brown and gold ‘splotches’ of her dress.

  7. I had such high hopes for this event, but the fashion here is disappointing overall. Mary looks like she's in a robe, Mette-Marit remains on the homestead, Victoria is fine, but meh, I don't even understand what is happening with the president of Iceland (do the edges of the sleeves loop around her fingers?), and the one bit of interest is the Finnish first lady. But it wasn't a tiara event, so maybe they toned it down for that reason/purpose.

  8. I'm not sure of Mary's dress, I need to see another view of it from a different angle. Her earrings are beautiful, but her shoes oh divine! Mrs. Budenbender's gown looks fabulous.

  9. It is obvious to me that the star of the evening is Queen Mary who is featured front and center. I like how the ladies are dressed in a more modern gowns as well as their jewels. I especially like how Crown Princess Victoria has her hair styled in a low chignon. And as always Mrs. Budenbender always gets it right. I wish I could get more excited about Crown Princess Mette-Marit but I am just not feeling it!

    1. I was thinking that Mary and Frederik were front and center because they are King and Queen, while the other royals are below them in rank. Victoria looks lovely in the simple lines of this dress, and her hair always looks so polished when done professionally. I like Mary's dress as well, but don't care for Mette-Marit's.

  10. I think all the ladies look gorgeous!!! Queen Mary is certainly flying the flag for Denmark in her choice of color--but the design is from Carolina Herrera. She looks beautiful in this simple yet elegant gown--I love that she's wearing her own earrings (her wedding earrings). I cannot wait to learn more about her bracelet. Wowza Victoria!!! Gorgeous deep purple velvet column gown that looks as if it was made right on her. Her updo is a much softer and lovely redesign of her usual bun--and it's perfect for her. This might just be one of her best outings in a gown this year. M-M's gown is not a show stopper like Victoria's or a super elegant look like Mary's but is very pretty. She loves her prints and I, for one, am glad to see this is a simple design is not one of her Little House on the Prairie styles she favored for so long. This is a style of dress that is so flattering on her because of its simplicity so the pattern of the fabric is showcased instead of overwhelming. Ms. Bundenbender looks amazing--a very glam look that's also very stylish as well as flattering to her. I like the idea of the President of Iceland's gown but the sleeves and neck area detract because they appear to be gray instead of the white of the gown, which is beautiful. I can't see much of Ms Innes-Stubb's gown but she looks elegant from what I can see.

  12. Wow Victoria looks fantastic! color, shape, fabric, hairdo all is perfect. Not so sure about the brouche, since she already had the necklace. But a minor detail.
I'm not sure about Mary's dress, color is great but the fabric doesnt suit the event not her, her earrings are lovely.
Frau Budenbender looks very royal, we have seen her consistently looking nice at official engagements.
As for MM I think she is back to the Little House on the Prairie era, which is not much of my liking. (Although this September we traveled to visit 4 of the little House on the Prairie sites, just not for royals events) .
Halla Tómasdóttir's dress seems rather unfortunate choice, I think that the idea and fabric were nice, but the sleeves ended up looking too long/heavy.

    1. I thought all of the ladies looked fantastic....Queen Mary's red dress was spectacular....she does not take a bad picture....ever!!! METTE Marie is beautiful...given that she is undergoing serious lung treatments...she looked great...but she would've looked as spectacular as Mary in a solid color...she did look fine as it was....enjoyed seeing the leaders of the Nordic Alliance...l am of Norway ancestry...took a recent DNA test...proud of this strong heritage...then the north eastern part of England...and like million others...to Scotland...Ireland...U.S.A..

  13. I did a little tidding regarding Queen Mary's bracelet:

    (from Kongehuset.dk)

"The Danish Royal Property Trust was established by Frederik VIII and Queen Lovisa in 1910. The purpose was to collect and secure gold, silver and other valuable objects "which are desired to be kept in Our Family and therefore shall pass undivided from King to King of our House”.." The objects in a type of trust called a fideicommissum are passed down from generation to generation. They are not owned by the individual person, and a sale or pledging of the inheritance is therefore not possible. In the Danish Royal Property Trust, this means that important collections (...) have been able to be kept together in The Royal House of Denmark."

The bracelet is from that trust, made of gold, diamonds, and natural pearls. The portrait is of Queen Josefina of Sweden-Norway (queen from 1844 until 1859). She was daughter of Eugène de Beauharnais Leuchtenberg. In 1823 she married the later King Oscar 1 of sweden.

  19. Love Queen Marys dress. Unusual style, a bit edgey, and the fabric so beautiful stiff yet floaty. Loved CP Victoria’s gold neckpiece. She wears great modern jewelry. I’d love to know where it’s from.

  23. The next season of Emily in Paris won't be taking place in a Nordic country, that's for sure! Only Princess Victoria's dress caught my eye, and even then, she would have deserved to wear a brighter colour. It's a rare miss for Queen Mary, even if the colour suits her well. As for the others, I'll refrain from commenting out of courtesy!

  25. Ah, I looove the hairdo on Victoria, it is very feminine and softer than the usual business updos. Lovely. Overall Victoria is the winner for me here (although she looks a bit tired, but then who doesn t at this time of the year?), I cannot make up my mind about the red dress on Mary... Mette-Marit is OK, and Mrs Budenbender stunning.

  26. How nice to include the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburgs in the dinner. Princess Carina looked fab. As did Mrs. Büdenbender and CP Victoria. I also like this particular red CH dress on Queen Mary. However, although she looked very well put together for the afternoon appearance, CP Mette-Marit somehow lost the plot here. I'm sure it's a lovely dress, and I know that she seems to love these flower prints to a certain extent, but this is just a bit too underdressed and night-gown-y, imho.

  27. I love Mary's dress, however, it is more suitable for a movie premiere, way too glamorous for a conservative diplomatic dinner. Other ladies are on point as always!

  28. The top of Mary's dress looks particularly awful. From the waist and down it is ok.

  29. It is already been said here :
Queen Frau Büdenbender : perfection . It is the first time I see her in a beautiful evening gown.
Mary : a dress style that is lovely but not appropriate for the season. Better one to wear in spring and summer (short wide sleeves + split in the skirt)
CP Victoria : perfection. Very beautiful velvet evening gown. Love her in that color.
The rest of the evening gowns I don't like very much.
I don't understand what the Sayn-Witgensteins-Berleburgs are doing there ? Are they representing someone ?. They are not kings, queens, crown prince(ss) or presidents of any nordic country.

  30. The clear winner tonight for me was CP Victoria. The richness of the color and the perfection of the cut, renders it sublime. The softer upto,is so much more flattering than her normal style.
QM - Very rarely do we see her in a new gown,I was disappointed in this. It’s too busy. The wide neckline. The large tie waist. The slit up the front. The color is flattering, but that’s as much as I see in this dress.
CP MM - She looks lovely in her dress, with the plum accessories.

  32. Saw a picture of the back of Queen Mary's dress on another website and it looked great from the back going up the steps but I fear this dress is wearing her from the front. Both Crown Princesses are looking good and their dresses suit them and their personal styles.

CP Victoria's gown is stunning, as is the jewelry she wore.
CP Mette-Marit's gown is true to her style, soft, feminine, lovely and flattering.
Q Mary's dress, not sure the top of the gown (neckline/sleeveless) goes with the bottom part of the gown.
The other ladies and gentlemen all looked lovely and handsome.
