  1. I love Queen Mathilde's beautiful burgundy outfit--very chic! I wish she had avoided the matchy-matchy accessories--too much with the gloves, shoes, and purse. Still, she looks terrific here.

    1. She looks so much younger with this make-up, her hair up and the hat. Just wow!

  2. A fantastic example of tonal dressing! The colors don't match, but are in the same family. There is interesting detail on the jacket, but I think Mathilde looks her best in more streamline cuts. Maybe if there was less bulk on the jacket. Overall, I still like it. It is very chic.

    1. I agree about her "her best in streamline cuts" rather than search for originality.

-Dorothe-

Obviously you don't like Dior. Queen Mathilde is wearing the Dior style of the 50s. She also wears the famous handbag the "Lady Dior" which is owned by the most famous Royal Ladies in Europe and beyond. There are other pictures of her on other blogs and she looks like a queen should look very regal.

  4. OMG what a terrific burgundy outfit and very special to combine it with darker burgundy accessories. Mme Macron looks very elegant too. Happy she is trying longer length of her clothes. So much better. But for me her hairstyle could be different, like the sides more out of her face.

Paloma.

  7. Madamme Macron is the clear winner in fashion for me. Great coat, simple dress lines.
Mathilde: The maxi hat and the shape of the jacket only adds age to Mathilde unnecessarily. Really, the hat is unnecessary, no other woman is wearing one at this meeting. I noticed that the members of the British royal family - Kate and Sophie do not wear hats on official visits and they know how to adapt more to their surroundings.

    1. Kate and Sophie both are no Queen, that is the difference.

You should know that every country has its own traditions. In Belgium as well as in The Netherlands it is the custom that a queen wears a hat when on state visit and other important events in their own country as well as abroad. "No other woman is wearing a hat" : well the other women are not queens, Queen Mathilde is a queen. The female members of the British royal family have their own style, very British. There is no reason for European queens to imitate their style because European queens pick the best out of all styles at their disposal be it French, Italian, British, Spanish, Dutch, Belgian, etc....
The British royal ladies "know how to adapt more to their surroundings" ? I think the British royal ladies dress how they like to be dressed, like I already said, very British and it is their right, just like Queen Mathilde and every other royal lady in Europe has the right to dress like it is the custom in their own country and in Europe.

    3. If wearing Dior when in France for a state visit means "not knowing how to adapt to her surroundings", please explain how according to you she should be dressed ?

    6. To all the discussants who responded to my comment.
Yes, I know Queen Mathilde wears hats on state visits, and yes, I know it's part of the protocol in Belgium. But in my opinion, the outfit would look better without a hat, especially without such a big maxi one (it reminds me of the sombrero of ranchers in the prairie.) Simply, this is how I look at fashion. I have the right to have my taste and I have the right to have my opinion.
Yes, I know Mathilde's outfit is from Dior, and so what? Does that mean we all have to be in awe? I really like the color, but I find the jacket shapeless. I respect that you like it, but I don't. On contrary I would choose Madame Macron's outfit any time, I really like it.

    7. Très bonne réponse Stéphanie, je suis 100 % d'accord avec vous.
Mais ici on est vite mal vue dès qu'on donne un avis différent, j'en fais les frais aussi. Il faudrait toujours être "politiquement correcte" c'est lassant. Paloma.

You said that Sophie and Kate did know how to adapt at their surroundings. Queen Elizabeth II always wore a hat when she had an important visit to do. Besides Sophie and Kate are not queens (yet). I also think you've never heard of diplomatic dressing. This is what Queen Mathilde is doing here, she is in France and she wears Dior, voilà. Wether we like it or not it is not important. You said her outfit would look better without a hat, possible, but she is on state visit so she has to wear a hat. Even if she is wearing a little hat she receives the same comments. I also think she has no lessons to take from other royal ladies, who are not dressed always to my taste either. I like Madame Macron's outfit too. She dresses according her height and her thin little size. It is always easier to dress a woman who is thin and not too tall than a woman who is very tall and not extra thin. Not so long time ago Madame Macron received also all kind of nasty comments. Her dresses were too short, her heels were too high, "she is wearing a wig" (she still receives comments on her hair), her tan was fake etc...

    9. To Paloma,
I do not see what "politics" has to do with fashion, customs and protocol. I am also tired of reading the same comments over and over again from people who give their opinions on the members of royal houses without knowing anything about their traditions, protocols, etc...Is it so difficult simply to say what you don't like about a dress or a coat or a pant suit without comparing queens and princesses with each other. Some have a completely different morphology. Nobody is perfect. Every queen or princess is a simple human being some are too short and not thin enough, others are too thin, some of them have an hairstyle that is too long or too short or too old fashion, some stayed too long in the sun, others are too pale, you name it .....

  9. This silhouette of Q. Mathilde is totally Dior from the fifties: love it!
There can be no doubt who is the Queen here, modest Mathilde, while madame Macron wears a good coat ( that I prefer with buttons closed).

  11. Now that's how a queen should look. Chic and dramatic.
She looks fabulous in the color and silhouette, but that hat just makes it all come together.

  12. Although I personally don’t mind the shorter dresses Madame Macron usually wears, I do like this longer dress much more. Beautiful colorcombination. QM looks absolutely regal in Dior. There are not many occasions you can go full on in this 50’s inspired Dior… so I’m glad the queen goes for it during this state visit.

  13. Mrs. Macron's coat is divine. Her navy ensemble underneath works in well with the color of the coat. The blouse neckline, I love, adding interest. The Queen looks superb, love this outfit. The jacket though I feel is too bulky. Her accessories, love the color!
