On October 26, 2024, Japan's Princess Kako visited PICFA, a welfare service office for people with disabilities, in Kiyama Town, Saga Prefecture. PICFA (Picture + Welfare) is an employment support facility where people with disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, autism, and Down syndrome, can engage in creative activities. On October 27, Princess Kako also visited the Hikiyama Exhibition Hall in Karatsu City.
It's always a delight to see Kako and her graceful smile. I don't know how she can deal with the strict rules of the Imperial Household Agency and dress more modernly. I imagine she has a dossier with all their dirty secrets. Unfortunately, that's not enough for them to let her wear better shoes. But considering all that, I'd say she always looks wonderful.

ReplyDeleteLa princesse Kako est toujours aussi adorable avec son sourire radieux ; la jupe rouge des premières photos aurait été mieux portée avec la petite veste des dernières photos !
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! My attitude to Kako is similar to the one I have towards Máx - whatever these both women wear, I love their smile and in most cases I - well, smile back. But this time, her outfits are really lovely, colours, length, style, composition and even the shoes.
ReplyDeleteBoth outfits are nice, but the second one is more to my preference. The print of the fabric of the skirt is suited to the skirt's longer length, and the short dark jacket complements the overall look very well.

Agreed.

Once again, beautiful Kako has managed to push the limits of the Imperial Fashion Police with her heels--so much more fashionable than that of the other ladies in the family. I really like her maxi dress. Her orangish red dress and brown jacket are lovely for the fall--and the jacket has some lovely details at the cuffs. As always she is engaged and engaging.

Very nice dresses. But the shoes IMO are again from the old fashioned department. The only time I have seen lovely shoes on her are from 17 Oct when she visited the ceramics exhibition. (SaF)
DeleteI don’t understand some of the comments about the shoes worn (or not worn) by the Japanese royal ladies. Are the complaints about lack of variety? — the fact that we see classic low-heeled pumps rather than stilettos, sandals, or shoes with embellishments?
ReplyDeleteIt's not just the lack of variety, but the fact that they seem to be standardized, as well as being ugly and old-fashioned in style. It seems that the Imperial Household Agency is not giving up on them.
DeleteThey are old fashioned. They look like shoes my grandma wore. There are many styles that have a moderate heel and that aren't too showy that would be more attractive. It is cruel to make a young woman wear them if she would rather wear something more stylish. These princesses live in a golden cage.
DeleteFor those criticising this fashion as old fashioned, don’t forget, different countries have different cultures, standards, options, opinions, etc. Just because something looks old fashioned to you, doesn’t mean that that is that case in that country. I encourage you to go spend some time in Japan to understand it, in particular the deep importance of respect and saving face. Japan is wonderful and intriguing and different and a truly wonderful culture to learn a bit about - Grace
DeleteI like her shoes and do not find them old fashioned. I also find that they seem comfortable and less damaging for the feet than the too high-heeled stilettos worn by some other royals.
DeleteI guess I can understand that some are disappointed by a lack of variety, but I do not find these pumps ugly in any way; I think they are flattering to just about any foot, and harmonize with all sorts of dresses and suits, whether on a young lady or an older one.
DeleteGrace,
DeleteI agree that they have a different culture, standards, options, opinions but why do they continue to copy European fashion from the 60-ees ? This fashion style does not come from their culture, opinions, etc...
Why some of them are looking more old fashioned than others ? Are some members of the imperial family more controlled than others ? In general Princess Kiko and Princess Kako are dressed more up-to-date than the Empress and her daughter. Exception : Empress Masako's pant suit she wore lately was very fashionable she looked a lot younger than with her other clothes.
@Anon 6:23 You make excellent points. None of this is traditional Japanese fashion. There are many articles about Japanese fashion throughout the ages. You can see that the general population does not dress like the Imperial Family. The Imperial Household is stuck in their way of thinking. Changes have been made in the past, and it is probably time for another.

What delightful young women. She always has a smile for everyone. I like both outfits but am more taken to the 2nd one.

She is always a ray of sunshine - a delight to behold!
ReplyDeleteI have the feeling that Princess Kako has been given more freedom regarding her clothing choices, as opposed to the obvious restrictions placed on her mother. I find this blue ensemble with the long skirt very special, it blends in with the surroundings and event. Subtle elegance.

What delightful young lady and Princess, she is a breath of fresh air, I think she looks great, in all these appearances. Her personality shines through, such a wonderful asset.
