There's something in the immediate moment that is competing for my attention a little more than Mary's outfits - that stunning staircase! What a beautiful artistic and architectural creation. The wide and gentle spiral sweep and the layered colours and textures give it a splendid form.
Back to Mary, I like both these outfits. The casual one is perfect, and highlights yet again Mary's ease and comfort in looking fantastic in casual outdoor clothes. I've always liked the polka dot DvF dress which she has worn before. I like that she has dressed it down by wearing her hair loose, thereby giving it a less formal but still celebratory look.

      Yess, that staircase!
Mary looks her usual very good easy self in skirt and blouse.
The neckline of the polkadot combi I think not so becoming.

The high neck and bare shoulders are the design elements that make this dress special. I think they should be highlighted by hair up or at least back from the face. She is also hiding some great earrings in the hanging strands of hair.

Re the staircase; a large frame photo of it on a wall would be stunning! It is stunning!

No new style, it is a rewear. She has worn this dress before.

QM such a stylish woman. I think she is my favourite royal in the way she dresses. It's never over the top but always so very very elegant with special details and combinations.

  7. No one does casual chic better than Queen Mary. To me she is just as elegant as if she were wearing a fabulous gown decked out with jewels just in a different way. She is pure class and that you cannot buy at any price. Either you have it or you don't!

Dear Fitzhugh, I love how you phrase your opinions - whether I agree or not you make me think and often laugh. Mary IS very stylish! I would have said that’s undeniable … but … Dear Anonymous Person writing negativity perhaps just to create dissension?, or a great basis for your opinion? … would love to understand more of your opinion than just being in opposition. Then this becomes a nice discussion (versus throw away negative one liners which aren’t much fun for the readers). - Grace

Oh, look Grace doesn't mention Marys botox and fillers like she did about Charlene. I guess the negativity to create dissension was reserved to Charlene. What a suprise. Before we judge others, we should take a hard look at ourselves.

I like both dresses, my only negative is her hair length. Shorter style would frame her face nicely, as this seems to drag her features down

I’ll be pleased when the fashion for long hair hanging down passes. Somebody over 50 doesn’t look good with droopy locks of long hair.

Not too long ago she had her hair cut to just an inch or two past her shoulders and it was very flattering. Hope she will do that again.

Just because a woman is over 50 doesn't mean she needs to have short hair. Now, I wouldn't have hair cascading down to my waist either, but times have changed. One of the best examples is a recent comparison I read about the television shows And Just Like That (Sex and the City reboot) and The Golden Girls. The characters are the same ages! But the ladies from the 80's look substantially older due to their short, poufy hairstyles and clothing. Imagine this: Betty White was the same age then (53) as Jennifer Lopez is now!!

I agree with @14:02! Fashion in the past, specially in the 70s and 80s, was ruthless to middle aged women. A shorter hairstyle would age Mary way too much.

I think the issue is that she has a long lower face, the middle-part being so flat on the roots highlights that. If she either cut some shorter framing layers or styled it with more volume at the top it might balance things out.

Both outfits are perfection! The polka dot outfit is one of my all-time favorites from her closet--she always looks sensational in it and does again here. Queen Mary's more informal outfit--the skirt and linen shirt are a great choice for the daytime event. She looks great and that skirt is a classic that I know we will keep seeing from her.

I believe the staircase was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and that Marx designed the landscaping.
