On the last day of her 4-day official visit to Brazil, Queen Mary of Denmark, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, visited Brasília's Botanical Garden, which is an important area for nature conservation. Queen Mary of Denmark is the patron of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Botanical Garden of Brasília is an important center for research and conservation of Brazilian flora, including the biodiversity of the Cerrado, the world's largest savanna ecosystem. UNEP's work in Brazil focuses on promoting biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Later, the Queen concluded her official visit to Brazil with a tour of the Palácio Itamaraty, home to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Queen was given a tour of the palace, which features several Brazilian cultural treasures as well as a distinctive spiral staircase designed by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx.
On the evening of October 4, in her role as patron of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Queen Mary, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, participated in a working dinner with UNFPA at the Danish Embassy in Brasília.
There's something in the immediate moment that is competing for my attention a little more than Mary's outfits - that stunning staircase! What a beautiful artistic and architectural creation. The wide and gentle spiral sweep and the layered colours and textures give it a splendid form.
ReplyDeleteBack to Mary, I like both these outfits.The casual one is perfect, and highlights yet again Mary's ease and comfort in looking fantastic in casual outdoor clothes. I've always liked the polka dot DvF dress which she has worn before. I like that she has dressed it down by wearing her hair loose, thereby giving it a less formal but still celebratory look.

The neckline of the polkadot combi I think not so becoming.
The high neck and bare shoulders are the design elements that make this dress special. I think they should be highlighted by hair up or at least back from the face. She is also hiding some great earrings in the hanging strands of hair.

ReplyDeleteQM such a stylish woman. I think she is my favourite royal in the way she dresses. It's never over the top but always so very very elegant with special details and combinations.

ReplyDeleteNo one does casual chic better than Queen Mary. To me she is just as elegant as if she were wearing a fabulous gown decked out with jewels just in a different way. She is pure class and that you cannot buy at any price. Either you have it or you don't!

DeleteNot too long ago she had her hair cut to just an inch or two past her shoulders and it was very flattering. Hope she will do that again.
DeleteJust because a woman is over 50 doesn't mean she needs to have short hair. Now, I wouldn't have hair cascading down to my waist either, but times have changed. One of the best examples is a recent comparison I read about the television shows And Just Like That (Sex and the City reboot) and The Golden Girls. The characters are the same ages! But the ladies from the 80's look substantially older due to their short, poufy hairstyles and clothing. Imagine this: Betty White was the same age then (53) as Jennifer Lopez is now!!

I agree with @14:02! Fashion in the past, specially in the 70s and 80s, was ruthless to middle aged women. A shorter hairstyle would age Mary way too much.
DeleteI think the issue is that she has a long lower face, the middle-part being so flat on the roots highlights that. If she either cut some shorter framing layers or styled it with more volume at the top it might balance things out.

ReplyDeleteBoth outfits are perfection! The polka dot outfit is one of my all-time favorites from her closet--she always looks sensational in it and does again here. Queen Mary's more informal outfit--the skirt and linen shirt are a great choice for the daytime event. She looks great and that skirt is a classic that I know we will keep seeing from her.

I believe the staircase was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and that Marx designed the landscaping.
