On October 1, 2024, King Frederik, Queen Mary, and Princess Benedikte of Denmark attended the opening of the new working year of the Folketing in the Folketing Hall at Christiansborg in Copenhagen. Every year, the opening of the Danish Parliament takes place on the first Tuesday in October and marks the beginning of the new legislative year. King Frederik attended the opening of the Folketing for the first time as king, and his mother, Queen Margrethe, was also scheduled to attend but was unable to do so due to health reasons.

  1. Both ladies chose a blue hat and in both cases I find the choice a bit random. It doesn´t really tie in with the rest, especially since shoes/purse/gloves are a third colour. Style and fit are great though.
Fredrik looks good in his three-piece suit. I like his trousers with a straight leg.

Princess Benedict looks fabulous here! Her Elise Gug suit is a classic and highlights her elegant taste. I also love her blue hat--a perfect shade of blue for her. Oh dear--rarely does Queen Mary let me down but...that hat is not flattering to her at all. It ruins her whole look for me. The gray coat dress is very pretty and I really love that she added a brooch to elevate the look of the very plain coat. I am also trying to figure out why she chose white/cream/nude accessories when she is wearing gray and that blue hat. Seeing a rare miss from Mary that is a messy mess.

Perhaps the accessories match the dress she is wearing underneath

@Anon 18:23 It would appear so. In other online photos, one can see a brief glimpse of a white or cream dress under her coat.

@Anon 17:01: That beautiful coat on Mary is not gray but blue, from Claes Iversen. She has worn it a couple of time before, in most cases accessorizing with nude/blush/beige which is a good choice given this very special blue. The hat matches it beautifully, not all blue hues would. A miss when something rather unaccountable happens, Mary's composition is, for me, everything but an accident or a miss.

Unusually rather less pristine showing from Benedict’s with the highly wrinkled suit. Nice on principle, not good enough quality to stay properly smooth after sitting (I assume it’s after sitting, and not bc she left that way her residence).

Mary’s coat is in her wardrobe for a decade - looks great imo. I don’t love the hats, but I also don’t dislike them either. Both hats are rewear and I think that’s way better than ordering something new just to make it an absolutely perfect colour match.

Mary seems to dislike stockings even when it is very cold outside.

Not words you utter very often when it comes to QM.But this is a miss.
The coat dress she has worn various times in the past, with various accessories. But the choice of fedora hat,and her hair down, being blown around, gives the look too casual a feel. The cream shoes and accessories, yes they matched the slip under the coat, but looked out of place with the coat.
PB really is an elegant lady. She knows how to put herself together. The light blue against the cream two piece is beautiful.
I hope HMQM is recovering well from her recent fall.

Mary's hat is an odd choice for an event like this. It reminds me of a man's fishing hat. Nice colour though, and I like her coat, which we've seen before.

Mary's hat appears too casual for such an event.

  11. Like both the blue hats and Queen Mary's coat is a lovely shade and beautifully fitted. Princess Benedikte's hat is nice but her skirt, unusually for her, is very wrinkled.
Queen Margrethe's fall sounds relatively serious. A neck brace for months seems to indicate fairly major damage.

  12. Princess Bene looks superb. Love, love! this outfit. She looks so stylish and chic. Her accessories are perfect.. Queen Mary looks lovely, this coat fits well and looks good. Her brooch is a nice addition.

Are those sitting wrinkles or the pattern of her skirt?

This is an old coat. I remember she wore it on a state visit of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde to Denmark in 2017. The skirt of the coat has to much of an A-line. The hat and other accessories don't match the grey blue of the coat.

  16. Both the Queen and Princess look very pretty in their blue outfits. I am glad that Mary did not wear the larger brim blue hat she sometimes wears and I wished she had worn the Connaught sapphire brooch that Queen Margrethe gifted her. I thought King Frederick looked dapper in his suit, however I was not feeling the vest!

Great look for both RL. For Mary maybe a different hat?

Mary should do something actually important in her position as "queen" over a country that supports the killing of endangered whales. Advocate for Paul Watson!!

Each individual piece of her outfit is acceptable. Together, the pieces form no cohesive picture. The hat is okay, perhaps a little too informal for the occasion? I think I would have preferred an updo. The coat is nice enough. Overall, impression is oddly juvenile and casual

The coat is alright, nothing special and rather short, but the hat is not attractive on her.
