  1. She's so pretty in yellow and I love that dress. Not a fan of the hat so much but the teal coat is pretty.

  2. Le jaune de sa robe combiné au bleu pervenche de son manteau est très flatteur !

The butter yellow dress and the blue coat are in pretty colours. The hat looks very dated and reminds me of something the Queen Mother might have worn.

Your thoughts about Sophie's hat reminding you of something the Queen Mother would have worn were exactly what I thought! I can't say I am a fan.

Butter yellow is indeed very flattering on tje Duchess of Edinburgh. Actually the hat looks like an egg warmer.

Nice colour, terrible dress on her.

  5. Lovely smiles, and a lovely dress. However, the dress is ill-fitting...it looks too big. Uba

How is it too big? The sleeves are supposed to be very long.

This type of sleeves has never been supposed to wear long. I do not like the buttons placed on the skirt of the dress. The color is lovely, but I doubt about the combination with the blue hat and coat.

This dress is best I’ve have never seen her wearing, it fits her like a glove.

Hm, unfortunately I disagree, the sleeves are far too wide and too long and there's also too much fabric above the waist! I think the colour is great!

I like Sophie’s dress, but do not care for the style of her hat on her (or really on anyone I’ve seen wearing a similar style). The blue-yellow color combination looks cheerful.

  8. I love this site. Two consecutive comments--Uba says the dress is ill-fitting, then the next one (Anon 17 38) that it fits like a glove. Absolute opposites. I'm in the middle--I like the dress and the detailing on it and think the colour suits the Duchess but as usual I struggle with the length. I like the coat but undecided on the hat.

Nice dress and color, just not keen on the ruffle on the sleeves. Nice coat not so much the hat. css

  11. The dress is a good color, the coat is a gorgeous color!, the combination is fabulous! Not so keen on the ruffle sleeves, regardless she looks beautiful. The hat is a miss for me. Lovely to see the royal couple both at this event.

The dress and the hat are both beautiful on Sophie; I would prefer that they coordinate color-wise (and would choose yellows) but they are both winners, imo. Will hope to see this hat paired with a dress in a lighter blue and pumps, handbag and coat to match the hat. Classic elegance! — Jane

This hat is not a pill box style. It is to big to be called a "pill box". The veil is also something one never sees on pill box hats. The hat reminds me of those which were worn by the female members of the Russian court in the 18th century.

Tara, I agree with your comment. The shape of the hat is very much in the pillbox style (I do not think it is too large to be called a pillbox, although pillbox hats can be smaller than this one) and I think it is a fabulously elegant look. — Jane

The style dress, hat, coat, harken to 'old times', the colours of yellow, and pale blue are up to date and bring the outfit to a modern fresh look.
