Princess Anne attended events in the Netherlands to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, part of Operation Market Garden. The Battle of Arnhem was part of an Allied plan to force a route into Germany from the Netherlands during World War Two, with the battle taking place between 17th and 25th September 1944. During her two-day visit, the Princess was joined by her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence.
As President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Princess attended a service on Sunday at Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, where she joined veterans, Armed Forces personnel, and the public in remembering those who served and lost their lives.
-Dorothe-
ReplyDeleteNobody of the Dutch royal family was there ? Or maybe just a minister.
ReplyDeleteKing W-A was there.

DeleteDidn't see any picture of him attending the ceremony.
DeleteIt is rare I say that a lady's skirt or dress is too short, but in this case Princess Anne should wear the "length that British ladies of a certain standing wear".
ReplyDeleteSince when wearing knee length skirt is not appropriate! yes many royal ladies are wearing their skirts ankle length, it is simply a trend and Princess Anne chooses not to follow suit.

Note. I respectfully disagree. Her skirt length hits the knee perfectly and raises slightly when she walks. I'll take Anne's length any day over Sophie's long maxi's that do her no favor whatsoever. Anne's suit is a bit old fashioned, but she's not out to overshadow the event with an expensive designer. Good for her!!

DeleteI think the length of Princess Anne’s dress is correct for a fitted or pencil skirt.
When you see British ladies of a certain standing with long skirts, they are full bodied and flowing.
I think a long, full flowing skirt is not Princess Anne’s style.
A long fitted, pencil skirt/dress would takes us into evening wear….no?
Her outfit for this event would, in Princess Anne’s words be, a proper outfit and I think when she is not walking the skirt would cover her knees.

DeleteIt is a bit odd. Each time I say I find the dresses and skirts of Duchess Sophie too long, I am getting the same answer "the normal length that British ladies of a certain standing are wearing" and it is not only Duchess Sophie who is wearing the almost ankle length, also Zara Phillips, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Princess of Wales, .... Are they all of a certain age ? There is a big difference between a pencil skirt that is too short and a midi-skirt that is too long. On the 9th picture one can see it clearly this skirt is too short. Her knees are not covered. If she cannot move with this skirt on, to avoid that her knees are visible means that it is too short. I wore myself pencil skirts in the 60-s and my colleagues and I always looked out that our knees were well covered. By the time the 60-s were almost over, the mini-skirts became fashion, but nobody wore these to go to work, only in our free time or to go out. Look at the group photo (pict. 13) of Queen Mathilde in her latest Safiyaa dress. The hemline is ending well under her knees. The dress of Princess Mabel who stands next to her is showing her knees. It is not elegant or beautiful at all. Does Mathilde's dress looks like long everning wear ? The answer is no. If Anne wishes to wear her very old fashioned clothes, fine with me. There are beautiful up-to-date classic clothes for ladies of a certain age which do not overshadow a formal event. On the contrary with her old clothes she is spotted immediately by every one. Maybe she does not wish to overshadow an event, but she does by wearing these old clothes. There are expensive designers and moderate designers and she is not exactly poor that she can't afford to buy a couple of better outfits to wear on formal occasions. If another queen or princess would wear such old clothes the comments would be "no respect for the remembrance event".
I like this suit very much. Nice length for a ‘lady of certain standing’ finally a more modern look. Lovely colour. My only quibble is how the jacket pulls, it doesnt seem to fall nicely from the button. But overall very nice.
ReplyDeleteAlways hard at work. I like her outfit today. But this is not about fashion this is about Remembering the not-so-distant past.

ReplyDeleteI love the Princess Royal's suit and she looks great here. Always so dedicated and sincere in her duty. This anniversary highlights a tragedy for the British forces involved and must be a very solemn event for all involved.

Je trouve que la longueur portée par Anne est parfaite pour sa silhouette !
ReplyDeleteShe looks good, love her suit. The tripe strand pearl necklace is a lovely addition. Wonderful to see Sir Tim right behind her, he is a great support network for her.
