This year, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg are hosting the 20th informal summit of heads of state of German-speaking countries. Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie, Swiss President Viola Amherd, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife Elke Buedenbender are participating in the 20th informal meeting.
These informal meetings have been held annually since 2004, except in 2020, in one of the six participating countries. The heads of state of Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium discuss current political issues during a working session. The heads of state will visit the University of Luxembourg in Esch-Belval tomorrow.
GD MT had this dress shortened since she first wore it. Much better proportioned to her. They all look lovely, what a great group of people.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks beautiful in the CH dress and cerise cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI’m struggling with GD MT. Her stature I don’t feel benefits from this type of dress. The tie waist cuts her in half. The sleeves are distracting. It’s a beautiful color, and that element is very flattering.
HP Sophie looks lovely in the suit. She has the height and shape to wear it.

DeleteThe color in the dress and cardigan of Queen Mathilde is not cerise but fuchsia.
The ladies look as if they are each dressed for a different event: Queen Mathilde dressed for a summer party, Crown Princess Sophie for a business meeting, Grand Duchess Maria Theresa for an informal meeting on the grounds of a school or senior center. The wife of the German president - whom the author of the blog completely ignored - is dressed in the style of presidential official meetings.
ReplyDeleteMaria Theresa was the least successful - this cut does not suit her short corpulent figure at all (no offense), the bad cut is especially in the breast area. It reminds me a lot of a raincoat.
Sophie's pantsuit has a loose - even shapeless cut, it looks too big and shapeless on both the model and Sophia.
Mathilde, in her flowery dress, looks among them like a colorful parrot among sparrows.
Ms. Elke desperately needs something to enliven the creamy white outfit (perhaps a colored blouse?), her sleeves are too long.

My goodness, they wear what they want. Some women are simply not "fashion plates"; others are "over the top". Different cultures, different tastes, different personalities... are they supposed to have a virtual hen party so they coordinate? Men are always safe with their proper suits, just neckties of different colors (just make sure they hang straight). ~~Ruthie.
DeleteStephanie, you said it all perfectly Irene
DeleteIt is an informal meeting that takes place every year. Everyone can wear more or less what she/he wants. Grand Duc Henri and King Philippe are cousins. The other members of the group know each other since years. Except the lady who was alone without a partner, she is new in the group. I don't know if she is the President of Austria or Switzerland. Queen Mathilde was wearing a new dress which she probably didn't wore this summer yet as it was not really warm enough. This week the weather forecasts were announced to be better, but only from wednesday on. By then the meeting is over. It was planned yesterday and today.
DeletePS: Where are the ladies from Switzerland and Austria?
ReplyDeleteViola Amherd, President of the Swiss Confederation, is on the far right in the 5th picture of everyone standing outside with their country's flag behind them. She is wearing a navy pants suit with a print blouse. S.M.
DeleteInteresting assortment of fashion here. I love Queen Mathilde's dress--very pretty and the color is lovely for her. GD Maria Theresa looks wonderful in the green shade of her dress and glad to see the length is has been shortened as the dress looks much better her. But those sleeves are awful--and they hit at point that does nothing for MT and are very unflattering. Sophie's suit is beautiful on her--she looks wonderful but it's a bit more business-like than the other ladies outfits. Still, it's a very stylish look for her. Hope to see more of this annual event.

lucky to have visited Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany some years ago

I only discovered the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd.
ReplyDeleteI read on another site that President Van der Bellen (Austria) and his wife couldn't come this time because of the very bad weather circumstances in Austria (heavy floods).
ReplyDeleteA nice looking group of ladies and their respective fashion choices.
ReplyDeleteQueen M looks lovely as usual.
MT, looks rather odd in a "plain on the top house dress", followed by a wide belt and tie's, and those sleeves (a horrible distraction), which further cut her in half, to make her appear shorter than she already is.

I salute Maria Teresa, Mette-Marit, Maxima and Mathilde(even if I don't are a fan of her fashion) they are a breath of fresh air among all these copycat royals wearing pretty much the same.
ReplyDeleteGD Maria-Teresa's dress looks better with the new length. On the last picture on the left MT's dress didn't look good. The emerald green is a good color for her. It is a pity that she didn't ask to change the sleeves as well. In todays pictures we can see she lost weight, which is good and which will make her clothes fit better...
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks nice. The only thing are MT's bell sleeves too big. css
ReplyDeleteGD MT looks beautiful in this shade of green, I find it a gorgeous color. The dress is quite nice, though I feel it adds somewhat bulky appearance, regardless its quite good. The pink and white dress and cardigan is gorgeous, beautiful ensemble. The MM pantsuit fits perfectly, again another beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks nice. I'm nostalgic, not objective today. I have fond memories of articles of clothing in that shade of green Maria Theresa is wearing. Of course hers is designer and mine were pret-a-porter. Chris L.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde stands out in a positive way yet again, in particular in picture 6..I cannot say anything else than she really looks like she belongs in a castle.
ReplyDeleteI say the following in the nicest way possible, Queen Mathild knows nothing other than life in a castle.
DeleteShe was born in a castle, spent her young and teenage years in a castle and moved from one castle to another with her marriage.
Queen Mathilde is high on the list of my favourite royals.
She is a Queen and also a lady.
The family castle of Queen Mathilde.
