On September 12, 1944, soldiers from the Army National Guard’s 30th Infantry Division crossed the Dutch-Belgian border into Mesch, making it the first Dutch village to be liberated by Allied forces. The entire country was freed by May 5, 1945. A total of 23,000 Dutch civilians lost their lives due to the fighting.

The gentleman walking with HM Q Maxima is 99 year old Kenneth Thayer of New York, who served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army and was a member of the liberation forces who crossed into the Netherlands 80 years ago.

That's wonderful, and such an honour for all with him. God bless him.

I like the colours of Maxima's Natan outfit but I'm not so sure that I like the outfit itself. It does look better when she wraps the shawl across her front...

Thanks for that information. How incredible to see him there. How incredibly sad war is, how incredibly wonderful peace is. I’m glad this town is still remembering, and how fun for them to have the king and queen show up with all their joy and support. - Grace

Wonderful to see the royal couple with the American ex serviceman. Not keen on this outfit. There’s too much material in the coat and too many ‘bits’

Oh my...whatever Queen Maxima is wearing it has way too much material--it's literally swamping her. Her hair looks great but that "hat" looks like it's growing out of her ear. How exciting Mr. Thayer was able to return to town he helped free from tyranny--bless him.

Maybe Queen Maxima copies the hats she saw once, when she was invited at the Ascot races ?

Maxima shines in moments like this. She has genuine warmth for the people she is with. This dress is not very flattering on her, particularly in the bodice, but the color of the dress and accessories coordinate nicely. More importantly is the reason she and WA are there. Mesch is a very special place.
Being escorted by Maxima is American World War II veteran Kenneth Thayer, 99, who was with the 30th Infantry Division. It is so easy to have your hair done well and show your lovely face!
The dress/ coat: much tissue, cannot get a good impression of the model.

  8. Fussy dress. Massive flower! Not a good look at all.

  9. Jolie Maxima dans cette tenue mais je n'arrive pas à distinguer les parties qui la composent ; j'adore la couleur de ses chaussures :

This is an excellent example of 'how Not to' wear an outfit'. All the pieces going this way and that, looks horrid, as does the huge flower she plucked from the garden and stuck in the hair.

    1. There's more than one designer behind this dress.
      I’d say something like three.
Each did their bit and then came together to assembled their work
And bingo, Queen Max is modelling the results. 😀

  11. Another awful Natan dress! there's more dress than Maxima, she's engulfed in it,plus a shawl and the huge flower on her hair...just bad all around.

Agree, and what is it with the teeth? The front teeth have been changed, and not for the better.

This is a nice color dress, there is too much going on. I think too much fabric the sleeves are too wide; it makes her look bigger than she is in reality. The huge flower is no bonus either. I know I am negative today. css
