On September 26, 2024, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium welcomed His Holiness Pope Francis at Melsbroek Air Base, northeast of Brussels. After a brief welcome ceremony, Pope Francis traveled to the Apostolic Nunciature, where he will reside during his stay in Belgium. On the morning of Friday, September 27, Pope Francis will be received at the Castle of Laeken for a meeting with the Belgian King and Queen.
Natan Structured Scuba Dress
Kind of hard to see too much but Queen Mathilde looks quite elegant here. Simple, pretty black dress and beautiful up-do.

The Queen looks very elegant, this outfit is appropriate for this visit. She looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteBeautifull Mathilde in an very elegant simple dress.
ReplyDeleteShe looks a nun!
ReplyDeleteA nun? I fail to see what´s nun-like about Mathilde´s dress. I agree with the above remarks that she looks fabulous in her simple black dress. It´s so easy to look good in this kid of dress.
DeleteIs that a compliment…
DeleteHahaha! Have never seen a 'nun' in a short, knee length dress, with high heels and head uncovered. You are a troll.
Delete???
ReplyDeleteElégante dans cette robe noire qui convient pour recevoir le Pape !
ReplyDeleteShe is a nun 🤭🥺
ReplyDeleteWe understood your previous comment, do you have any other suggestions?
DeleteFound something to make Queen Mathilde ridiculous ? I never saw a nun with high heels, beautiful legs, elegant attitude,....
DeleteSame as with GD Maria Teresa - I wonder why QM doesn't use her protocol priviledge to wear white.
ReplyDeleteI don't wish to explain all the traditions of the church and queens. In the past according to different countries we have been able to read all kind of discussions and different opinions about that. The only thing I know is that Pope Francis is someone who is not impressed by all these old traditions. And it is not the visit of a queen to the Vatican, but the pope who is coming to Brussels.
DeleteThe only thing which is a bit unusual is that Queen Mathilde wears no coat although It was very bad weather in Belgium, it has been raining all night, strong wind and 9° C. King Philippe on the other hand is wearing an overcoat, which is a smart decision, I think.
I think the "privilège du blanc" is during an audience with the pope, as opposed to here when the pope leave sthe Vatican for a visit. Correct me if I'm wrong if anyone knows more.
DeleteQM has so much grace and elegance. She looks stunning. Lovely pictures with the pope and the funny combination of soldiers and children.

DeleteThe pope landed at Melsbroek the military airport near Brussels. The 2 children who are introduced to the pope are probably children of someone of the official welcoming comittee.
I am not catholic. I don't care about catholic traditions. I am particuarly not fond of this pope. But one thing I know for sure the PR department of the Royal Belgium House will know what to wear and when to wear better than the random commenter on this blog.
ReplyDeleteIf this subject is so uninteresting to you, perhaps you should look for posts better suited for your growing list of sensibilities.
Delete@ Queen Mathilde knows what to wear. It is not the first and the last time she meets the pope. If there is a PR dept of the BRF Belgian royal family, which I doubt, it is the official royal palace in Brussels in collaboration with the government, who is responsable for all the do's and don'ts. On the last picture (on the right) you see the prime minister Alexander de Croo and the minister of foreign affairs Mrs Lahib (black and white skirt) who represent the government.
DeleteVery much to protocol. I like this dress, simple and elegant.
ReplyDeleteI am Catholic, I like traditions and protocol.

When I write "I wonder why", I mean exactly that. I am actually interested in this black vs white detail. I understand that it's not a mistake and that the Queen knows exactly what is correct, however, if anyone here knows, I would like this protocol detail explained. If you don't know, don't bother.
