At the invitation of Colombian Vice President, Francia Márquez, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are making a four-day visit to Colombia. On August 17, the Duke and Duchess and Vice President Márquez paid a visit to Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, a drum school located on the beach of La Boquilla, Cartagena. Then, the Duke and Duchess, accompanied by Vice President Francia Márquez, visited San Basilio de Palenque, a historically significant village located outside Cartagena.

19:06 yes starting to agree! These become the posts with the nastiest comments, as evidenced by random strangers asking if you’re ok! This might return to the kind blog of old if the divisive posts weren’t published. Grace

    5. Grace, "if the divisive posts weren't published". Are you giving Helen advice what she should post on HER blog? Helen has all the rights to publish what ever she wants and we readers can choose what we want to read. Is it so difficult to understand? And what exactly are those "divisive posts" you are pointing to? Commentators on this blog have always had different opinions but they have used more civilised arguments than nowadays. It's not Helen's or Harry's or Meghan's fault, it depends on us how we express ourselves. And if someone is demanding the blog keeper of whom she can publish articles or writes that "she has been traumatized because of the Sussexs" (someone wrote so in an other post) then it's no more normal or healthy, it's just sad.

Meghan shows us another two outfits on day 3 that are hits for me. The first, a two piece set, again, by Columbian designer Johanna Ortiz. The rope design gives a nautical vibe, and I wonder if it was a deliberate choice since they are visiting the coast. The bow detail on the top is particularly flattering on her since she is small chested. She has accessorized with her Ariel Gordon ‘Imperial Disc Pendant’ with the children's names, in addition to the gorgeous Cartier ‘Juste Un Clou’ that we have seen so much of. The second outfit of the day is my personal favorite. The linen pencil skirt is from POSSE. Pairing it with a simple shell and flat sandals, she looks effortlessly chic. Topping off this look is a boater hat by another Columbian designer, Hannia Char. This entire outfit is affordable as she wears it, and easy to duplicate with other brands. I am looking forward to day four and the fashion as well as what new sites we will see of Columbia.

The Ortiz dress with horizontal stripes would not suit everyone but it does work on Meghan’s figure. It’s a striking and strong design. Like her subtly curled ponytail—keeps hair out of the way but is softer than a completely pulled back bun.

Yes darling America consists of North America and South America…you don’t have the same definition in US schools?

      Delete
    4. Anonymous20/8/24 02:37

Anon 21:03 I am not clear what you are getting at. "The Americas" or "Americas", plural, refer to the two continents, North and South America. "America", singular, is a shortened name for the United States of America, the country. Citizens from the other countries that comprise the "Americas", plural, do not refer to themselves as Americans. Only citizens of the United States are Americans. A person can be North American or South American, depending on where they live.
You shouldn't call US schools into question on the subject of US geography. According to your theory, my Canadian and Mexican friends would be calling themselves Americans. I can assure you that they do not. They are very proud to be Canadian and Mexican, respectively. The same goes for the people I have known from any other countries in North and South America. Not a one refers to themselves as an American, unless they become naturalized citizens. They then usually call themselves (nationality)-American.

The spelling of the 2 names has nothing to do with the fact that your mothertongue is not English : COLOMBIA is a country in South-America, British COLUMBIA is a Province in Canada. You also have the University of COLUMBIA in New-York.

      Delete
    8. Anonymous19/8/24 16:19

@Anon 15:15 The simple fact is that there are many misspellings and grammatical errors here. The spacing and punctuation is not perfect. Royals names are translated to the poster's native language at times. In this case, a place was spelled using regional spelling, as you pointed out. Since the country of Colombia is not on the tips of our collective tongues, it is easy to default to the familiar spelling, and not something spellcheck would catch. These things are not called out because this is an international fashion blog, and as such, most of us understand the reason for being here. It is to discuss fashion and get the perspectives of others from different parts of the world, not to be graded for the effort. The majority of us understand what is posted--grammatical errors, misspellings, mistranslations, etc., notwithstanding. If we don't understand, we ask for clarification. Providing it wasn't meant to be snark, the communication is relatively good here and we are able to navigate misunderstandings. Your geography/spelling lesson was made on your part because you are not comfortable with the people being discussed and it was your way of being toxic and petty. You have missed the point of being here and posting.

@Anon 16:40 To add to what you said, Colombia was named after Christopher Columbus. In North America, Columbus is spelled with a "u". In addition to the examples given above, the capitol of the United States is Washington, D.C., or more formally, Washington, District of Columbia. Christopher Columbus' name is spelled differently in different countries. In Italian, his name is Cristoforo Colombo, and in Spanish it is Cristóbal Colón.

Yes, latest fashion this Summer : white + off-white, white + ivory, white+ light-beige. Also in other colors a light difference between two colors is tolerated in 1 outfit. Look at Meghan's trousers and shirt in red copper tones. Look at CP Elisabeth's dress worn on July 27 to assist at a wedding party : there was a light difference between her green dress and green hat and clutch both borrowed from Q. Mathilde, her mother.

With the last being Queen Máxima in February 2024.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not included in the count as theirs is a private visit.
Hope Colombia changes the red carpet from time to time otherwise, it’ll soon be threadbear. 😀

deadeggs, thank you so much for posting this link! This certainly shuts down some of the arguments made against Harry and Meghan's visit. With so many royals visiting over the decades, safety is not the concern that some have tried to make it out to be. Certainly a pregnant Victoria would have put the safety of her unborn child ahead of any tour if there had been any concerns. I remembered Letizia's most recent visit, but I confess that I forgot about Maxima's February trip. It is fun seeing the royals from times past, before grey hair and beards. Camilla looks wonderful in that pink suit! I suspect we have seen Anne in that same outfit many, many times since 1997! Harry's visit is a nice bookend to his grandfather's visit so many years earlier.
