Queen Sofia of Spain has arrived in Paris to support Spain’s Olympic athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On August 10, Queen Sofia watched the Spanish women’s water polo team take on Australia. Spain secured their first Olympic women’s water polo gold medal with an 11-9 victory over Australia in the tournament finals. Queen Sofia also visited the Spanish Olympic Committee, where she greeted the Olympic champions of women's water polo, as well as athletes, workers, and journalists covering the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Sofía is NOT Queen of Spain, the Constitution does not allow two Queens. She is te Emérita or the Former Queen.
ReplyDeleteCalm down a bit.

DeleteThere are other countries where the former queen is still called "Queen". Nobody is getting angry for that. Maybe you suffer from the heat.
Telling a stranger to calm down or assuming anger are unwelcome habits from social media that feel really bad to the original commenter and others who come here to enjoy sharing. Simply state an opposite opinion if you wish, without directing it AT another commenter. Here can be such a nice respite from the crazy attacks of social media - let’s keep it that way! - Grace
DeleteKeep quiet. It's the same in Belgium, Denmark. Until 14 of June 2014, she is named "Sa Majesté la Reine Sophie". Before she was "Sa Majesté la Reine d'Espagne".
DeleteAnon 06:51...in Spain we do not suffer from heat, all summers are hot...LOL..that must be your problem...
DeleteAs I said, in Spain she is called La Reina Emérita "The Emeritus Queen"...I do not know in " other countries"...
If even her own son, Felipe VI, told people that Queen Sofia (La Reina Sofía) was going to come to Paris to support Spanish athletes? Why are you protesting so much? Spanish newspapers and magazines also call her La Reina Sofía.
DeleteAnon 20:18...LOL...in French!!! Majestè????..in Spain until 2014 she was called Sofía de Grecia , Reina de España...Espagne????(Sofia from Greece), you must be quiet!! And she is Sofía..not Sophia....as always foreigners giving lessons to us.. Spaniards!!
DeleteAnon 10:18..The Queen of Spain has a title in French??? In Spain we speak Spanish or Castellano....and even you say "keep quiet " in English...
DeleteIt is not the same that in Belgium and Denmark...Juan Carlos and Sofía only have the Emeritus title...and the country is España, in Spanish...darling...be quiet!!..please!!
The Spanish press in Spain..says..El rey Emérito y la Reina Emérita....and that's all..I am a Spaniards, living in Spain for 54 years...., me vais a decir cómo funciona la monarquía en mi país...
DeleteVerle..you have said "Queen Sofía"...not "Queen of Spain"..that's the difference.
DeleteOne things is Queen Sofía and other one is Queen Sofía of Spain...also in Spain she was called Sofía de Grecia, Reina de España

DeleteAfter all the reactions above, are you still telling what we can and cannot tell the original commenter ?
I must say, she is one busy RL. I would like the energy she has. She looks good in this outfit. It must not always be designer. css
ReplyDeleteAgree.
DeleteWell said agree with you
DeleteSuch a busy, elegant lady. Still playing an important role for her country. Like Queen EII and her daughter PAnne, it looks like she always put country before herself. Very graceful indeed.
DeleteQueen Sophia's look is beautiful. Each generation of the Royal Family of Spain is supporting their Spanish Team. ♡♥︎♡
ReplyDeleteLa reine Sofia a toujours beaucoup d'énergie ; c'est un plaisir de la voir arriver à Pairs pour les J.O. !
ReplyDeleteShe looks well and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWonderful seeing her show support to the competitors.
In Belgium once Fabiola de Mora y Aragon married King Baudouin, she was called Queen of the Belgians. That is different than in other countries with a monarchy : in Belgium they are called King and Queen of the Belgians that is their official title. Not everybody knows that. They are also called by the foreign press and media King and Queen of Belgium, well that is not correct. Is it a crime not to call them by their official titles ? No. After King Baudouin passed away his wife and queen was simply called Queen Fabiola just like she was always called and just like Queen Elisabeth (widow of King Albert I). In Belgium once you get married to a Belgian man (royal or not) you accept his nationality. Maybe one can choose it now and keep your own nationality too (there are so many things that change each year). We never felt the need to say Fabiola of Spain, Queen of the Belgians or should we have said Fabiola de Mora y Aragon, Queen of the Belgians ? Lol much too long... The same for Paola of Italy, Queen of the Belgians or Paola Ruffo di Calabria, Queen of the Belgians ? Also much too long..... Why make it complicated when it can be simple. With our present queen it would be very funny : Mathilde of Belgium, queen of the Belgians.
ReplyDeleteAnon 24:22.. Because in Spain married women keep their maiden own surname and people have two surnames, It is a different culture.
DeleteKing Felipe is: Felipe de Borbón y Grecia, because his father and mother, not only Borbón, and Greece is the surname Sofía mantained, because her Germán one was too difficult for the Spaniards.
Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz.
And in Portugal people have two surnames too but first one is mother's...Some people need to travel more...the world is heterogeneous..
DeleteAll the Spanish and Portugueses countries Carry two surnames...and there are plentu of them...
After reading all these comments I'm very pleased that we have a president 😂. But there is also one rule: the former president will always be Mr or Mrs president, but the current president is the president of the republic. So simple to remember.
ReplyDeleteIn any case I'm interested in royals because I like fairy tales and beautiful clothes.
