This is a nice feminine but professional outfit. It’s more Fall than Summer. The hat is a bit heavy and large for a small group indoors.

Ah I completely love the hat! In several European countries the weather has recently swung from summer to a touch of autumn, although I think her clothes are more nautically themed than seasonally (navy?) and can work from spring time until winter coats are needed again. Grace

Nice hat, she doesn't that amount of make-up, want to see her pretty face.

On this day of the trip she completely missed it. The dress is nice on its own but all pieces together is almost a joke or looks like an imitation of an old movie. Totally overrated as a fashion icon.

The individual pieces of Mary's outfit are nice separately (especially the skirt), but worn together they seem like mish-mash of colours, patterns, and styles to me.
Also, I wonder why she chose such dark, sombre colours when her wardrobe for the past 3 days has been so bright, light and colourful.

Anon 9 13, I totally agree with you about the different pieces! I love the hat, smart and classy, the blouse is gorgeous and I like both the jacket and skirt. The light coloured shoes and jacket are fine but seem a slightly odd choice for the navy. Smart enough but not one of her best looks imo

She looks lovely but the hat is imv really a too big. And beside that, although I like these type of hats, I think it's not very sympathetic to wear those kind of hats when you meet people and certainly not indoors

    1. Agree, Achard62, I think some of Queen Mary’s XXL hats are just a little too big (imposant).
Maybe she is being safe and following the old etiquette rule of the 1950’s when it was seen as improper for a Queen, royal woman and upper-class ladies to show their hair in public.
If it is the objective of Queen Mary to not “rock the boat”, a fascinator or bi-bi could do the job.
The Queen Mum and Elizabeth II were great hat wearers for official occasions.

  15. I like how the Mary is conscious of the environment by re-wearing her clothes and allowing her daughters to wear from her wardrobe, unlike other royals who wear a whole new outfit for every single engagement.

What I like about QM is that she is rewearing clothing she already had, rather than purchasing a whole new wardrobe because she is now queen. She is always nicely dressed. I also like the new suits the king seems to have.

    1. Love the blouse. A nice versatile piece and perfect for ladies of a certain age. Queen Mary is not included in this comment. She is still a young girl.
For the over 80's club, it hides the ageing tell-tale-give-away signs on our skin. A Madame Macron anti ageing trick (wife of French President).
But I wonder how it found its way into Queen Mary’s wardrobe?
The fashion name/house Proenza Schouler is 100% New York.

Over the last ten years, they have constantly won awards and accolades for their work.
It appears they don’t have many boutiques but prefer to sell through the top name fashion, department stores such as Harvey Nichols, Bon Marché, Lane Crawford etc.

Again, Queen Mary looks marvelous! I love her choices today--that skirt is one of my favorites in her closet. Her hat is a perfect match for the skirt in terms of size and shape. Her accessories also look great paired with the navy items--and her brooch is the perfect nautical touch. I love how Mary mixes and matches items she's worn for years with the result of things new.

  19. Too dark for summer, it is a miss for me. If she had put white with it and a different hat, it would have change the whole look. Mary should not wear grey against her face she is a winter toning not a summer toning.

I like this outfit a lot. Maybe because I am always drawn to navy-but regardless of my personal preference, the outfit is pretty, professional and fits like a glove. I prefer it to the cutesy dress from the reception.
