Danish Queen Margrethe Visits a Local Market in Cahors, France

Queen Margrethe wore a white sweater and a sky blue cotton skirt, and navy stone earrings at the Cayx Palace

On August 17, Queen Margrethe of Denmark visited an open-air market located in the square in Cahors, close to the Cayx Palace. This week, Queen Margrethe has been on her annual summer stay in the south of France. The Cayx Palace (Château de Cayx) is a summer residence of the Danish Royal Family located in the wine district of Cahors in southern France. Queen Margrethe and the late Prince Henrik purchased the château and the estate in 1974.

Wow what a cute, casual outfit, perfect for the market. I like that she parted her hair a bit more on the side instead of straight back. This skirt looks fabulous on her.

  4. La reine toute pimpante est arrivée un peu tôt dans son château de Cayx ; peut-être qu'elle sera encore là à partir de septembre pour la saison des cèpes qu'elle pourra acheter dans les environs du château qui est producteur de vins !

Queen Margarethe is looking relaxed and is enjoying her retirement. I'm happy for her that she can now do whatever she likes, whenever she likes.

Here the Queen is just another woman wearing a simple summer dress and doing her shopping in the local street market.
If you look at photo N°2, it looks like she has to wait her turn to be served. 😉
In photo N°3 there is, on the left, a woman in a blue dress carrying a basket.
It appears that it is the Queen’s “Dame de Compagnie", Henriette Obel (lady in waiting).
What a pleasure to see Queen Margrethe enjoying her retiremant years.
I hope her two sisters can join her for their annual get together.

@Deadeggs: Yes. Despite these royal ladies living a life of luxury for most of their time, and being waited upon hand and foot, a few of them are not above reverting to being ordinary people, mingling with everyday folk without fanfare nor recognition, and just going about their business with common decency, when the time comes. Queen Margarethe seems to be one of them, and it is lovely to note. It must be a relief to live a simpler life, free from complex commitments.
Q.Margarethe was not a commoner before marriage, but perhaps we will see more of this in the future with some of the current younger royals, who were once just ordinary people before marrying into royalty. Let's hope that they don't forget their roots and remain grounded and in touch with reality.

When Queen Paola and King Albert II went to their villa each year in the Provence (France) when they were still king and queen, they went hand in hand to the local market, bakery, butcher's. They took a little chat with the locals and were also recognized by tourists in the region. It was never too much to have a little chat with the people who wished to greet them. Now of course it will maybe not be possible anymore because they need both a walking stick and the small streets in these villages are not easy to walk on.
On the pictures we found of them in the newspapers and magazines they were dressed like the other tourists : the queen in a cotton skirt and a T-shirt and the king in cotton pants, a polo shirt and a light hat to protect his head against the sun.
Princess Paola (later Queen Paola) was a member of the princely Ruffo family from Calabria, Italy. She lived a very simple life with her mother in Rome when she met Prince Albert (later King Albert II).

Lovely to see Queen Margrethe looking so well and able to walk around the market with minimal, presumably, security. Nice casual outfit which really suits her.
