On June 18, 2024, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the 104th ABC International Journalism Awards ceremony and a dinner given in honor of this year's award winners at the new ABC headquarters in Madrid.
During the award ceremony, the King and Queen presented the "Mingote" Award to AFP photographer Said Khatib, the "Luca de Tena" Award to journalist and writer Rosa María Calaf, and the "Mariano de Cavia" Award to Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Cortés.
These awards are granted annually by ABC, which is a Spanish national daily newspaper. It is the third largest general-interest newspaper in Spain, and the oldest newspaper still operating in Madrid.
Self-Portrait Cream Sequin Boucle Dress
This time, it is the King who takes the prize in my view. Elegant and dashing in black-tie. What else to say? Not much (fashion-wise) - his style is spot-on!
ReplyDeleteIf I owned a wardrobe like Letizia's this outfit would not be my choice for a black-tie do. It's nice as outfits go, but she has far better pieces (not talking about gowns) that are slightly more glam and less casual looking, and which would have put her on par with the elegance of her husband. However being Letizia who rarely looks bad in anything, she looks OK so I'll just leave it at that.

DeleteKing Felipe of Spain and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden would have to share the prize for the best dressed Royal male in Europe.
Never a crease out of place. On the other hand, I think Queen Mary and Queen Margrethe of Denmark are working together to organise an accident to hit King Frederick’s wardrobe (mainly sporting gear).
I think he is slowly getting the message that he is King, but it’s not an easy job for these two royal ladies. I wish them luck.
Agree with your points on Queen Letizia.
I wonder if she’s deliberately dressed down a little from what she could be to be more in keeping with the context and crowd?… after all, she too was a journalist and may enjoy feeling part of the group there. Studying the materials of this Self Portrait outfit, the top is not as simple as these photos show, but very sparkly and the skirt is very swishy and feminine. She has had the long skirt shortened, which makes me think she wanted to dress down a little for this occasion while remaining absolutely elegant - but approachable. I think she nailed it. - Grace
DeleteAgree, the King’s posture and tailoring is the gold standard! dlh
Delete@Deadeggs lol. I can just imagine what would happen if you were let loose in a room alone with those two gentlemen. :))
DeleteBTW Fredrik is is showcasing the Danish olympic athletes by visiting them during practice and trying out their sports with them while they train. (He's been doing it over the past few months but the clips are only being released now, as the Olympics approach.) I've watched him participate in the table tennis clip, the hammer clip and the rifle clay pigeon shooting clip. He is definitely the most sporting of all the current crop of European kings, and deserves huge credit for his attempts and abilities. He looks like a natural in all those sports. He is also so friendly and humble with the athletes, and jokes a lot with them while encouraging them, and you can see that they appreciate him. Try and watch some of the clips if you can find them. You might be adding him to your list of future dream conquests...then you'll really be tired out hehe. :)

O.K. Anon 9:13. I’’d give some serious thought about doing some cutting and pasting and put King Frederick into my scrapbook of handsome Princes.
DeleteBut too late, he jumped the queue and is now a King.
But I must say that he comes up his best when they’ve given him a good wash and polish and put him into a uniform with all his medals.😀
It's not that I'm a negative mood today, but this will be my second not very positive comment of the day.
ReplyDeleteThey is something about the corset (lack of a better term) that I don't like, as if the fabric is too hard or does not suit perfectly as most of her clothes do, perhaps someone more efficient will be able to write about it.
For the rest, her look is impeccable as usual, I like to the way her hair is styled and the bracelet that she rarely wears.
Luna
I agree. Something bothers me in the upper part of Laetitia's suit.

The button placement on the chest I find not appealing
Paloma
Very beautiful couple - always working with real love and passion.
ReplyDeleteToujours bien vêtue et coiffée

The Queen's ensemble looks beautiful. I love this two piece suit. Her diamond bracelet and earrings are the perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteNice looking dress. I am glad her foot seems to get better. Always nice to see them out and about. css
ReplyDeleteNice looking King
ReplyDeleteI agree with Luna and Anonymous. Although Queen Letizia‘s ensemble is interesting and somewhat unusual, it does not seem elegant enough for a black tie event and would have been perfect in a different setting and I am convinced that she could have chosen a more festive gown from her extensive wardrobe. The jewellery is wonderful but not in harmony with the rest.

I think the photos do not really show that the upper part of the dress (yes it's a dress, not a two-piece ensemble) is very sparkly, due to hundreds of thiny crystals, moreover with beautiful jewel buttons. She is not really dressed down.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the sleeveless jacket. It has too much buttons in the front. It doesn't go well with the skirt. Looking at the men, especially the king, they all are dressed festive, but Queen Letizia looks rather dressed down. I love her bracelet and earrings. Why didn't she wear one of her former evening dresses ? She wore beautiful evening dresses in the past. She also could have worn wide white trousers and a white little jacket à la Chanel. I think she has (partly ?) something similar in her closet.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh...KFel looks perfect here. Absolutely dashing as well as perfect. He brings back memories of the elegance and polish of the late Prince Philip. I have mixed feelings about Queen Letizia's choice. Of course she looks wonderful--she'd look wonderful in a garbage bag. I think I would have to see this outfit in person to make a final decision as the top just doesn't have the metallic threads picking up the light. Her jewelry is perfect for a black tie event but her outfit is iffy. One thing I'd like to point out--her foot issue(s) seem to be improving or resolving. She has been able to wear--as she is here--a high heel. And, good for her that she's choosing a block heel for the extra support. Just hope she keeps mixing in the flats to spare her pain and discomfort.

Rossella 🖤
This is the Self Portrait Cream Sequin Boucle Midi dress. I think if it had been longer it would have looked more elegant and in line with the event. The sequins do not photograph well, and I suspect this dress looked much nicer in person. Based on photos I have seen elsewhere, there appears to be longer, straighter skirt available that gives the outfit a sixties vibe and is quite beautiful, IMO. She may have made her decision based on her current footwear restrictions. The lower, less restrictive shoes do suggest a less formal dress.
ReplyDeleteLe roi : classe absolue !!
Paloma.
Thanks to the readers who gave the brand of what is actually a dress. So I did find other photos on the web.
ReplyDeleteMaryel
Marivillosa Letizia, tan elegante, tan chic.
ReplyDeleteWow for Felipe is right! I must admit to a little disappointment Letizia's dress is not floor length. Christine
ReplyDeleteLetizia looks good as always, her hair and jewelry is on point.. Isabel Diaz Ayuso backless red dress with fly away sleeves, is too tight, busy, and does not fit well,
