On July 26, Prince Albert, Princess Charlene, Princess Gabriella, and Prince Jacques of Monaco; King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands; King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark; King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium; and King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. During the 19 days of competition, 329 events will take place from July 26 to August 11. The Games will bring together over 10,500 athletes competing in 32 sports.
CAROLINA HERRERA Floral Bow A Line Cocktail Dress
All the pics from the Royals on this page are really great. It seems only Mary of Denmark wore the colors of Denmark's flag. I wished Charlene included red to match with Alberts outfit. Oh well I can't have everything. Nice to see them all there. css
ReplyDeleteMáxima was carrying an orange wrap, and Willem-Alexander wore an orange tie. I'm sure they were all feeling loyal, though, regardless of their dress.
DeleteI loved this for Charlene she looks amazing! white is part of Monaco colors.
DeleteLove Queen Mathilde - she is looking very beautiful in this red dress. ♡♡♡
DeleteWhat a pity that there was torrential downpour for most of the opening ceremony tonight.
ReplyDeleteThe Luxembourgians were there as well. They were shown being received by President Macron and Madame Macron just before the ceremonies began.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous Opening Ceremony. So different, so stylish, so unusual and so beautiful. Very emotional when Celine Dion sang after all she has been through. And besides that, it was the perfect song at the perfect moment. Well done Paris on a terrific spectacle.
- Anon 9:13
there was a shinny robe attached to her gown safety measure as she was close to edge of the roof top. when she posed during her song and got emotional i was like omg! atleast they can pull her back if she gets a fit.
DeleteAnon 9:13,completely agree with your wonderful description of the Opening Ceremony! Absolutely spectacular, I was mesmerized. I was surprised and thrilled to see and hear Celine Dion.As you said,it was very emotional, and perfect.
DeleteAgree, thank you Paris, thank you France - you make the world really happy - France you save real happiness.
DeleteOooh my goodness a Royal Flush, so many royals at one time. I do believe Queen Letizia is the winner here in her beautiful Carolina Herrera. Sorry Mary but you will always be my number one!!! FITZHUGH
ReplyDelete@Fitshugh
DeleteQueen Letizia thougt it is warm in Paris in the evening like in Spain. She was the only one in a sun dress.
Yes that is true but non the less she was still beautiful and I looked at the photos again and I just never noticed how exquisite and flawless her chiseled facial features are! FITZHUGH
DeleteSo no British royals turned up?
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne attended the IOC meeting
DeletePrincess Royal was there. the layout of the event was in different locations around the River Seine so they all sat at different stands depending on where their country boat was passing.
DeletePrincess Anne was there
DeleteShame on Charlene clutching her alligator skin handbag. That pair have plummeted in my estimation
DeleteWould have expected prince William. e.
DeletePrincess Anne and her husband were there. They were seated elsewhere.
Delete@ Anonymous 10:05
DeleteI have also a handbag in alligator skin, but it is not the real thing. Although many people think it is real. It is made of real leather, even if you look close it is very hard to see that it is not the real thing. So always be carefull before accusing people, but I think Princess Charlene does not buy less than real stuff.
@ Anonymous 07:23
DeleteI think Princess Anne didn't take part in the dinner party at the Louvre museum nor at the reception offered by President and Madame Macron at the Elyséee just before the start of the opening ceremony. The reception was organised for the heads of state and since Princess Anne is not a head of state she was not among the participants. I think she stayed all the time in the company of the British Athletes at the Olympic Village.
Love the happy smiles and beautiful outfits, but Prince Albert and Princess Charlene seized the day in their patriotic ensembles. Must have been extra special for both of them. Hope that Carolina Herrera didn’t get ruined in the rain. That was a bit too much for this particular outdoor festivity.
ReplyDeleteLetizia overdressed for the rain, it was a very outdoor event.
ReplyDeleteCharlene kept it elegant and sporty at the same time,
The others are casual, well suited.
where is Sweden and Norway?
DeleteQueen Letizia’s dress is easily the best outfit, imo, but it seems overly formal among the more casual outfits of the other royals. Is the Princess Royal not there? She usually represents UK at sporting events. Princess Gabriella has definitely decided that smiling on formal engagements is not for her! 😂
ReplyDeleteGabriella ne connaît pas le mot "sourire". Paloma.
DeletePoor Letizia, that dress in the rain?
DeleteWho is princess Gabriella?
DeleteGabriella is going through a phase she will get her beautiful smile back. Her mother did too.
DeleteQueen Letizia looks superb, love to see a repeat of this beautiful dress. Great photo's of the Royals, wonderful to see.

Yes Achard and Anonymous 07:59 should read the introduction on top of this item, maybe she or he will understand who Princesse Gabriella is and Prince Jacques too.
DeleteRelax, not everyone follows and knows who every person is, I know I don’t know or recognize a few of them; its not a big deal, people are asking so they can inform themselves.
DeleteI'm very sorry for asking "who is princess Gabriella?". I have read the capture but I totally lost her name and her photo also. Of course I know who she is but I was only looking at adults, my fault.
Delete@Archard62, I hope that you understand that we all can make mistakes.
Albert & Charlene not allowing the downpour to dampen the mood,is glorious.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Q letizia takes every opportunity to show off her arms but in this situation it just seems the wrong place to wear that dress, the weather was inclement and it was actually chilly, a miss for her. P Gabrielle gives everyone such suspicious looks, at least he brother musters a smile, maybe she really dislikes being in display.
ReplyDeleteShe dosen’t look like she is freezing though and if I had those arms I would be showing of aswell..even in sweden.
DeleteLove love love the CH dress, but photo 9 the underarm area is not attractive. As far as being overdressed we dont know what other meetings they attended before or after which this dress would be appropriate. queen Mathilde wore a dress as well. I must say that Monaco didn’t seem to care if it rained on them or not just enjoy.
ReplyDeleteLetizia was not really overdressed. This Olympics is very fashion heavy. I am assuming Paris being the venue has something to do with it. Anyone and everyone who is well known was dressed like this was a red carpet event. Even current and former athletes, who would normally dress down for an athletic event, brought their best fashion game for the pre-events. I am really enjoying what has been compared to the equivalent of another Met Gala.
Delete¡Qué comentario desagradable! Pruebe usted a ir caminando de frente y girarse a la derecha para saludar a alguien y cuéntenos cómo quedan sus axilas.
DeletePrincess Charlene and her Albert are real fun to see.
ReplyDeleteQueen Letizia is a beautiful lady, who always looks well groomed and beautifully groomed.
ReplyDeleteAda
Fully agree!
DeleteFrance lost me when they mocked The Last Supper. The whole opening ceremony was bizarre. It was nice to see so many royals, Letizia and Charlene superb. No Swedish representation?
ReplyDeletei did not like that too! there was no need to offend Christianity and cultures around the world. Also portraying the LGBTQ community as promiscuous.
DeleteAgree with Kteach!
DeleteI did not see those things at all. Where was the Last Supper? Where was promiscuity?
DeleteI make my remarks as a Catholic. The Last Supper has been spoofed for years. My own son spoofed it in a Photoshop class for an assignment using famous vampires. It never occurred to me to be offended (either by his assignment or the Olympics opening ceremony.) I am secure in my faith, and these things don't bother me. Until it was mentioned by others, I didn't see The Last Supper connection, and honestly, I think one has to look hard to see it. To begin with, there were more than 13 people. Just like we see here on this fashion blog, people see what they want to see. People who are offended by drag, IMO, made it more than it was meant to be. Each Olympics, the host city's opening ceremony reflects what they are known for, to give their visitors the flavor of the city they are visiting. Fashion is certainly something Paris is known for. I don't have enough imagination to turn a clever fashion runway production into a living painting with--extra people.
DeleteOddly enough, staunch Catholic as I am, I didn't make that connection with mocking the Last Supper at all when I saw that segment live. I just took it for what I thought it was - an OTT artistic vignette of avant garde fashion and risqué models that Paris is reknown for. It was part of the fashion show and the central person in the vignette was a DJ. So I was surprised to read about the controversy this morning. I fully respect everyone's right to their views and understand people being upset if they perceived it as a slam on Roman Catholicism, but I've watched the scene again and as a card-carrying catholic, I admit that I am less bothered than I would or should be if the intention was mockery. It didn't come across to me as that.
Delete- Anon 9:13
If Christians were offended, then why are so many comments trying to minimise their upset. Saying I’m a Catholic too,is an attempt to dismiss their upset.Because you weren’t offended you have some higher moral understanding. If you weren’t offended great! But please don’t minimise the feelings of those that were.
Delete@Anon 12:58 You are reading waaay too much into the above comments. The original comment made was about disappointment in "France" for mocking The Last Supper. There is a lot of nonsense making the news that Catholics and other Christian groups were offended, based on that misinterpretation. The scene was a modern take on a pagan feast linked to the gods of Olympus. Look it up. As I said above, people see what they want to see. The upset is in seeing something that is not there and making it an international incident. Sadly, the Olympic Committee would probably still have to apologize "for any offense taken" to the people squawking about this, even if the offended groups admitted it was about the Olympic Gods. France has a very rich Catholic history. Preparation for the games are many, many years in the making, with many checks and balances. Unfortunately, it is impossible to take into account the human imagination. If the Opening Ceremony or any other international event had intentionally lampooned any religion or a symbol of a religion, that would be a different situation and appalling. It didn't happen here. Prefacing my comment by saying that I am Catholic, a member of the supposedly offended group, gives my comment more weight than if I were an atheist. I saw absolutely NOTHING offensive about the production, nor any connection to The Last Supper, and am embarrassed that there is a segment of uptight people of my faith that are offended. It has absolutely nothing to do with what you perceive as "a higher moral understanding" on my part. I would never dismiss anyone's genuine feelings either, but they must be well placed. I am basing this on the simple facts. Sometimes the most obvious answer is the correct one. The Last Supper should only have 13 people in it. The artistic director, Thomas Jolly, and the Olympic Committee have said it had nothing to do with The Last Supper. The Olympics are much too big to risk such scandal. Look at the backlash. It is being discussed on our little fashion blog.
Delete@Anon 12:58 In my comment I clearly said, "I fully respect everyone's right to their views and understand people being upset if they perceived it as a slam on Roman Catholicism,..." What part of that don't you understand??? How can you possibly say that I'm trying to minimise a Christians right to be upset just because I myself, a practicing RC ,wasn't offended? Please get a grip of your understanding of my words and stop trying to paint us all with your sensational rhetoric. If some RCs were offended I have no problem with their feelings. That's their business. I'm stating that I, a practicing RC saw nothing to be offended about. That's my right too. And why wasn't I - and others - offended? Because as had been explained ad nauseum, there was nothing to be offended about. That scene had absolutely NOTHING to do with Catholicism or Christianity. Doesn't that matter?
Delete- Anon 9:13
The opening ceremony was long and boring. I consider mockery of the last supper to be a mockery of Christians and I am saddened by it. Dear organizers, you say you wanted the games to be inclusive. Words, words, words. Your actions are divisive. I was upset about it, and celebrity clothing seems secondary to me in this context.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Imagine, dear debaters, that a drag queen did not portray Jesus, but Prophet M. (is lam). Why didn't the organizers parody him too? surely you know what would happen - I won't say it out loud here. You know, within the framework of "equality" - we parody Jesus at the Last Supper (on the 1st bridge), so we parody the prophet M (on the second bridge).
ReplyDeleteStephanie
You didn’t like it, noted, you were offended, noted, you were bored and unhappy noted. There is not need to bring other religions into this conversation in order to “offend equally “ just let it be, and I say this as someone who was brought up strictly catholic, just follow the teachings and love all, even if you don’t like them.
DeleteStephanie your sentiments do you justice.I applaud your feeling the need to say it.Don’t ever let anyone ever tell you differently!
DeleteDear Anon 13:09,
Deletethe best and correct thing would be - not to parody, not to humiliate any religion.
BUT - If the organizing committee claims they had no intention of mocking Christians - well, if it was as innocent as they claim, then it would be okay to parody Islam, right? But they didn't dare to do that - THEY certainly KNEW (or could they ASSUMED) that it would be over the line. But the organizers know that if they offend Christians, people will speak up, protest verbally, but no one will go to fight in the streets, threaten death and the like.
Organizers say they wanted to be inclusive - but they are divisive. If they wanted to parody something with acting drag queens, why did they choose ITALIAN renaissance artist Da Vinci and a painting painted for a monastery in Milan, Italy? (depicting the basic events of the Christian religion) Haven´t they enough french personalities and famous people?
Charlene's hair looks flat, bad cut, or weather related? jan
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary was wearing Andiata. Looking good.
ReplyDeleteSo many Royalty's in one place and all for the same occasion. Hope everyone had a good time. css
