Maybe they are but they also seem terribly comfy and safe. That is the absolute priority when you get to a certain age. (Talking from my personal experience, no ageism here!)

Well Shannon, she’s 73, and attending a roomful of athletes in tracksuits … and these shoes are neat, comfortable and coordinated… do we really need more? - Grave

Given that the Princess Royal is always classically and elegantly turned out for her official engagements perhaps these shoes are a concession to her recent medical problems. She suffered from a concussion and she's 73, nearly 74. It might be that she needs to make sure she is very steady on her feet to avoid a fall. Concussions have serious consequences with balance for extended periods of time--dizziness even vertigo can happen very suddenly. And, she flew to Paris which could create even more issues regarding her recent concussion. Janet

  3. When the Princess Royal gets it right, she gets it right. Simple lines. No fuss no bother. Just a crisp clean look and a look of great pride.

    1. Dear EhBeth;
Thanks for the link but I wish you hadn’t posted it. I’m confused.
If I’m understanding things here, this is an 63 year old Italian fashion designer who is designing clothes for young men who want to look like an English, 74 year old Princess.
She says her inspiration comes from Princess Anne’s wardrobe.
This Italian designer, Venturini Fendi, has this to say about Princess Anne ….. “She's kind of an anti-fashion person and, to me, that's something that's actually very fashionable and chic.'
She also said, Princess Anne is 'the chicest woman in the world... capable of maintaining her femininity while wearing a uniform.'
Sorry, I’ve got to put the kettle on. It’ll be at least three tea bags for each mug.
p.s. I wonder if my jeans, T shirt, no bra uniform, would give her inspiration for her next fashion show in Milano.?

Deadeggs, this is really just nonsense you are writing here: Fendi is totally right in recognizing that “ chic” doesn’t come from the clothes you are wearing!
That said by a fashion- designer gives hope for the world!

I don’t think Deadeggs is writing nonsense - it’s her opinion. She’s quite funny and well meaning too! - Bob

I am with you, Deadeggs. Why this seems to be inspirational to anyone is beyond me. There’s no style in just shapeless pants and jackets - just because they are old. Throwing something on just because you don’t care doesn’t count as either appropriate or even less so, worth follow.

"...not quite sure what I'm wearing: the flashlight batteries in the scout tent are flat. Ah, here I have my shoes, wonderful! These trousers might be from Miss Goliath. - She won´t mind!"

  8. Quel vrai plaisir de revoir la princesse Anne dans un style épuré qui lui va toujours bien ; elle porte des chaussures qui doivent être confortables même si elles ne sont pas vraiment tendance !

I am glad that Princess Royal is doing well, but oh dear why those ugly shoes, a nice pair of loafers would have look better and the pants are too long.

For goodness sakes the Princess got bashed in the head by the force of the weight of a giant horses hoof. she is lucky she is not wearing a helmet on her head.....relax!

How one can find thick brown winter shoes looking good during Summer. Her pants are too long to wear with these shoes. She has more than one pair of black shoes, why not wear a pair of those. For the rest nothing special to mention : the pant suit is lovely, but the whole outfit is much too dark for the Summer. She could have worn red combined with black or navy if she wished to stay in the colors of the British Olympic participants.

The princess looks wonderful. She looks great in a suit and the colour is perfect for business meetings. Well done despite the shoes which look very comfortable

As always Princess Anne is at her best! She never gives less than her best. So happy to see that she is recovered enough to fly to Paris (flying after a serious concussion can be very serious and doctors often recommend against it). For all the naysayers about her choice of shoes please remember she is still in recovery from her concussion. She can have episodes of dizziness hit her very suddenly so she needs to be as steady as possible on her feet. She might have been left with vertigo--I have it and it is like being suddenly placed in a centrifuge. Again, I think her shoes are a sound choice for her safety. She is wonderful and I think she looks great!

  14. I don't understand why so many praise her style. You are judging queen Silvia (80 y.) when she is having "too comfortable" shoes and the dutchess of Gloucester too. I understand that princess Anne had an injury, but there is nothing wrong with her feet, right. Even her jacket and pants are not the same color, the jacket is dark blue and the pants are black! I don't say anything about her hair, I' m not one of those hair polices here. But she is doing her job and that's what matters.

Agree with the comments of how good it is to see Princess Anne at this Olympics event. Wonder if she went to a formal reception. No photos of that? I like the simple navy suit with white blouse. But I would have paired the outfit with white trainers - comfortable and safe, but more in style with today’s fashion. Hard worker, but remember you are representing a country and a monarchy and you are not exactly a pauper, so Princess please dress a little more up to date. You have a magnificent figure that I envy (though envy is not good).
