  1. Beautiful outfit on Duchess. A few adjustments;
    - proper handbag instead of shopping basket
    - higher V neck
    - reduce length of dress at least 2 inches above the floor

And maybe don't spend so much time in the sun. She looks a little burnt.

You forget she is from Cuba and even with a sunscreen she has a dark brown tan more quickly than we do.

@14:33 Well said! Why are we shaming skin tone? Do people really not understand that we all have differing levels of pigment in our skin? We already went through this last summer with Letizia. I hope this isn't going to happen again this summer.

It's her prerogative even if. Just as we all have one. Some has the need to complaine about anything under the sun, spread hate instead of love and good vibes. As a cubanese she get easy tanned as the other here say. So do I even if I'm from the high, high north WITH factor 50. Also we who are characterized caucasian(a word that is so outdated, scientific racistic and not used in rest of the world except the US...I progress) has different skin tones from pale, faire, medium and darker "white". Can't we just embrace being different and don't criticize it.

The word caucasian is not only used in the US but also by the police in my country in Western Europe.
About the protection factor. My daughter in law is also very quick bronzed although she has blue eyes and natural blond hair. She also uses factor 50 when she is on holiday in Spain. And she always has a small quantity of sun product factor 50 with her from the beginning of the Spring. She never uses a lower factor than 50 and she has the darkest tan in her family. She has a good skin quality. Me on the other hand has a bad skin quality (I have the skin of the red heads). I had never really red hair but more chestnut, auburn with natural copper tones. That said I always had to watch out for the sun since I was a kid and now that I am getting older my skin is becoming thinner and thinner and I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.

People, there is a difference between "shaming skin tone" and good medical advice. There isn't a doctor any where in the world worth their salt that won't tell you to stay out of the sun and away from tanning beds, etc., *regardless* of ethnicity or your natural coloring. She laid out some where too long. Period. And yeah, it's her prerogative but she still laid out some where too long.

@Anon 17:30 Some people that comment here have a history of shaming tanned skin. It is not just about Maria Teresa. You don't know that she "laid out...too long". Depending on where you are in the world, you can still tan on a cloudy day. She does not have destroyed skin, face or decole

How do you know it's not fake tan? Sometimes we should try to think before pushing enter.

From the one photo here, the O dela R floral outfit seems to perfectly match Maria Teresa's tropical style, deep tan, and warm smile. She looks lovely in it.

  4. Sorry, but no, this was not a day at Paris plage... M-T could get away with the dress, but combined with that bag it is just a bit too casual for this meeting. She really looks like a VIP +1.

I think if you view the Opening Ceremony of 142nd IOC Session, you will see that the women in attendance were dressed in a variety of attire, from pants outfits to dresses. Front row, Mme. Macron was in a pant suit, and a woman mere seats away from her was dressed in a hard-to-miss white lace, two piece top and longer skirt. MT's dress and cardigan are very pretty, just too long. As is the problem with so many of her clothes, she doesn't have them cut down for her petite frame or doesn't buy petite sizing. While the dress doesn't look terrible as a maxi, it would have looked more elegant if worn as designed.

Her dress cannot be too long, because it is an evening dress she wore on their last state visit in Belgium.

@17:36 The promotion photo from Oscar de la Renta is above. She is wearing it too long, in my opinion. It is a cotton poplin dress, just worn at a garden party June 25. I don't think this is an evening gown at all. She wore a different gown in Belgium, Oscar de la Renta Hollyhock Fil Coupé Gown. It is quite beautiful, but they are two different dresses.

I've looked it up. You are right the dress she wore in Belgium was another one but in the same style and with a similar flower print too. Apparently she likes these Oscar de la Renta dresses. Well she wears them when she can during the Summer season. I remember in Belgium she received positive as well as negative comments, just like now with this one. I bet she is coming straight from her holiday residence in Biarritz or from another place in the south of Europe.

Maria Teresa wore this dress during the last evening when she and Grand Duke Henri were on state visit in Belgium. I didn't know there was a jacket with that dress.

I think this is a refreshingly different look for M-T, and beautiful on her. Would love to see her in this style more often. I agree that a more formal handbag would have been better, but she still looked smashing. — Jane

Dress is too long. Bag does not go with dress.

First time I really like something this woman is wearing: beautifull pattern, smashing bolero.
Skirt a bit shorter and different handbag would indeed have made it better, but:
So far so good for the duchess!

    1. And looks like the Grand Duke has caught a bit of the sun.
With his fair skin, he'll get the "roast beef" look.

OK, even the lanyards for the access passes are longer! The dress is excellent, clever use of tonal coloring for the flowers. The dress from the last evening of the Belgian State visit had a dark background. Christine

  14. What a nice dress and cardigan combo! I might choose a slightly dressier bag but I don't mind the raffia. They both look happy and relaxed and that's the best thing.
