On July 20, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, Princess Astrid, and Prince Lorenz of Belgium attended the traditional National Day concert on the eve of Belgium's National Day 2024. The concert took place in the Henry Le Boeuf Hall of the Center for Fine Arts (Bozar) in Brussels. South Korean soprano Sumi Hwang, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Singing Competition 2014, performed with the National Orchestra under the baton of Antony Hermus.

Q. Mathilde wears these floaty, caped dresses very well. I’d prefer to see some real earrings with it, maybe her modern diamonds, but overall she looks wonderful. As for P.Astrid, I think this outfit is a miss. While the skirt is quite interesting, the sleeveless, ruffled top seems too big and too droopy. (V.M.)

ReplyDeleteThis gown is very elegant. The caped effect looks lovely. Her gown flows as she walks. Love her color choice of accessories. I'm not sure what her earrings are like? Princess Astrid, this gown looks individuals and unusual, it suits her. I'm not so sure about her top. The skirt, the pattering, a bit too much.
ReplyDeleteQueen Matilde looks gorgeous here--I love her gown! She looks very elegant as well as comfortable. Oh dear...Astrid has hit wide of the mark this time with her top. Her skirt is OK but that top is a total no for her. I feel if she had worn a less fussy blouse, something very plain, almost severe, it would have been perfect to highlight the interesting design on her skirt. As it is everything is too busy, especially next to Mathilde's beautiful simplicity. I feel like I'm bashing on Astrid and I really like her so I need to end on a better note--she really has a beautiful and winning smile and is such a marvelous support to her brother the King and representative of her nation.

Isn't this the same dress Elisabeth and Amalia already wore in different colours? It suits Mathilde a lot. I also like the idea behind Astrid's outfit but I think another shape of this blouse, without ruffles and with anothee thpe of sleeve, would have looked more elegant.

DeleteQueen Mathilde wore this dress for the first time on the occasion of the Queen Elisabeth music competition of 2022. CP Elisabeth wore the same dress in pink at the wedding of the crown prince of Jordan. CP Amalia wore this dress in royal blue on the 18th Birthday Gala of Prince Christian of Denmark. There is another Princess of the Netherlands (don't know anymore who) also wore this dress in a striped fabric in 2021 or 2022. These dresses of Essentiel Antwerp are part of a collection of evening dresses that can be hired. Apparently Queen Mathilde's is her own because she is wearing it for the 2nd time. I doubt she would hire the same dress twice.

I agree with most comments above, they are quite obvious : yes to QM about everything, I don't mind the earrings, I would also think that they are gold, who knows ? For Astrid, yes she made quite a good choice for the skirt, but spoiled the overall look.

ReplyDeleteIt is not the custom that the whole royal family has to assist at the preludium concert (the concert on the evening before the National Day). In the past Prince Laurent and Princess Claire assisted sometimes. To- day Princess Claire does not assist at the festivities of the National Day.
DeleteI love everything about this elegant floaty dress except the colour- Never was a fan of orange. Queen Mathilde looks great in this kind of gown and her hair is styled perfectly for this dress.

DeleteIf you read the text under the last picture of Essentiel Antwerp, you can read the color is Watermelon (and not Batermelon which is probably a typing error).
Queen Mathilde a fashion queen. Akways the right models, always the right colours.
ReplyDeleteI keep looking at P.Astrid she is such a pretty woman like her mother. I like her skirt alot and though the top has lots of fabric it matches well with the skirt. I noticed the splash of orange on the waist band of the skirt that makes it look like it is the blouse hanging at an odd angle. Perhaps a photo at a different angle would do it justice. Not a fan of orange but these ladies are able to wear it well.

ReplyDeleteBut, Princess Astrid who is a charming, hard working royal, unfortunately, doesn't have fashion as one of her best friends.
If Queen Mathilde wears a soft color like the cream color on the 21st July, some people find it a color that washes her out. It is a fact that people with a fair skin are recommended to wear bright colors, but since cream is a fashion color this Summer, I think Queen Mathilde can wear a cream colored dress.
