In 2024, Norway celebrates the 1000-year-jubilee of the first Christian Laws. The first Christian Laws of Norway were introduced by King Olaf Haraldsson and Bishop Grimkjell at Mostratinget in 1024. Mostratinget is known as a court meeting held at Moster Church. On June 1, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended an anniversary celebration at Moster held in connection with this anniversary. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess also attended an anniversary dinner later that day.

Moster 2024 invited people to a folk festival at Moster to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Christian Church. From Wednesday 29 May to Sunday 2 June, this event is being celebrated through a large and varied anniversary program at Moster Church, where the Kingdom of Norway was converted to Christianity in 1024.

The introduction of these Christian Laws started an extensive and radical social upheaval - "from a society of power to a society of law". It marked the beginning of a new era, with a stronger consideration for the people and the legal protection of individuals. There were rules about baptism and burial, marriage and bondage. The Christian Laws were a collection of the rules to be followed in society in connection with the new religion.

  1. Afin d'être à l'unisson avec Mette-Marit, j'aurais bien voulu voir Haakon porter le costume traditionnel ; je suis sûre qu'il lui irait à merveille !

The royal men doesn't use bunad at official events like the women do. Since the bunad show a belonging to a place or region, the King has chosen to be neutral, and he has said about why he does not wear bunad that he is a king for all of Norway.

The crown princess is wearing a Hardanger bunad. This bunad was used by the whole country in the late 1800 as a symbol that they wanted out of the union with Sweden.

As we say in Norway Olav Tryggvason and Olav Haraldsson Christianized the country with the sword, meaning, they acted ruthlessly and violently towards those who would not accept the new religion. They didn't give them much of a choice.
They would probably turn in their graves when they see the
de-Christianization of the population today after we learned critical thinking 😉

M-M looks great in the traditional outfit. With her very blonde hair and light eyes, she’s straight out of central casting for a Scandinavian woman!
