On Wednesday evening 5 June, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands hosted a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the Diplomatic Corps. The dinner is organized each year to maintain and strengthen international relations, and to connect foreign ambassadors and representatives of Dutch organizations who are internationally active, on various themes. This year's theme of the dinner was international business. King Willem-Alexander gave a short speech at the event.
I love the color of her gown, but it’s too much hair not done neatly enough and the sandals are too casual for the whole attire.

DeleteExactly my thoughts. Also the dress seems to be too casual with its unstructured top for the white tie event and doesn't match with the glittering jewellery and tiara.
DeleteI agree! The hair ages QM; a rare fail. Great color and style except for the too casual sandals. MR
Deletei think so too. the tiara is too grand for a simply beautiful dress and casual sandals.

Paloma.
Éclatante de beauté
ReplyDeleteJ adore ses chaussures.

Hard to tell if this is a dress or skirt and top but it is a beautiful color on the Queen.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful jewellery and her hair is styled nicely.
I love this cherry red colour on Maxima. It looks good on her and having a full column of it really doesn't require any embellishment. The diamond and ruby set she is wearing fits the bill perfectly. The style of her gown is lovely as well - assuming that it is a gown and not a 2-piece; It is simple and stylish because it is well cut and the flow is perfect. Red satin pumps (which she owns) would have given the look more polish instead of the strapped sandals she is wearing. And how about those brilliant, massive red floral table centerpieces? Wow!

Just elegant 👏
ReplyDeleteIs she wearing stockings with open toe sandals? 😶
ReplyDeleteHair styled?! New wig.
ReplyDeleteThe colour of the. dress(?) is very becoming.
ReplyDeleteI think the tiara has a strange position : too upright.
Am not charmed by the hugh split nor the sandals either.
Beautiful red colour and luscious fabric. Fabulous jewellery.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit and jewels, but was Máxima’s hairdresser in a hurry ?
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly
ReplyDeleteWow very nice. The last photo shows the outfit at its best whether it is a gown or 2 pieces. The sandals give it a grecian vibe, and the jewels are perfectly shown, including the bracelet on her right arm. The back of the hair a bit off but the queen looks magnificent in this cherry red.
ReplyDeleteBad wig. Sandals. Too much jewelry for a simple dress.
ReplyDeleteI love the color of the dress but it's WAY too casual a look to accompany the tiara and necklace. Her hair is pretty but I don't like the way the tiara is placed on her head. The hairstyle needs some height to support the tiara. ANYWAY nice try Q.M. I remember how beautiful both Q.M. and Q. Mathilde were for the Belgian State Dinner. Wow, that was an outstanding fashion moment. But this dress is just too casual.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if it is a case of habitual Maxima bashing, not fully understanding fashion, or truly not liking what Maxima is wearing. It is perfectly acceptable to wear evening sandals, especially in the summer. With the quantity and amount of detail in her jewelry, the best background to show it off is a simple, monotone design gown. Being Maxima, she doesn't always show restraint. When she does, she is accused of being too casual. She has made herself a canvas for a remarkable suite of ruby and diamond jewels that does not require an over-the-top gown to be shown to their advantage. I agree that her hair has been styled far better on white tie affairs in the past. This does not mean, however that she is wearing a wig. Let's not be stupid. She has added a hair piece which was not color matched or styled as well as it could have been. She is hardly the only one to wear a hair piece. The gown and shoes are Natan, and as Natan goes, I am pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteShould've worn the tiara a bit further from her forehead.
ReplyDeleteThe gown is a lovely shade of red. The evening sandals and the gown co ordinate well. This gown is fabulous for the change in the seasons, a but warmer, great choice for her. The ruby and diamond peacock tiara(I think!) looks superb, love the necklace and matching earrings. Her bracelet looks unusual, not sure what it is hard to see. Her hair looks outstanding and her makeup is on point. She looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe color washes out Maxima, the jewelry is wearing her, not she wearing the jewelry. The hair is over the top huge (bun) and sloppy looking. The dress; slit too high and shoes far to casual for the jewelry, occasion, etc. The King's outfit is sloppy looking, not just in these photos, but in others on the web. Their smiles are nice, too bad their outfits are not.
