Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako bid farewell to King Charles and Queen Camilla. The final meeting between the two royal couples took place at Buckingham Palace in London. After the farewell, Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako visited the Young V&A in Bethnal Green, a museum in East London which celebrates childhood and creativity and currently has an exhibition called "Japan: Myths to Manga."
Both ladies look lovely. Queen Camilla blue dress has beautiful details and stitching. Empress Masako's pale pink suit is pretty and has an interesting lace detail on the jacket that adds a level of elegance. It has been so wonderful to see Empress Masako become so confident and be such an active part of her husband's reign. I remember the years in which, as Crown Princess, she suffered terribly. She is truly delightful, engaging, and always lovely--a real asset for her nation.

I agree. I like that the empress took a day off to recharge. Good for her.
DeleteJanet, you gave a lovely warm comment, thank you.
DeleteI love it too, to see these two women growing in their respective role and staying warm-hearted, interested and friendly.
But Janet why constantly talk about someone's lowest moment in life, lets just celebrate her in the now.
Deletepeople do this about Charlene too!!
Masako has definitely found comfort in her role and, after many years, blossomed. I think she is one of several examples of commoners being overwhelmed by royal life, no matter what level of preparation they may have been given. Living it is another matter. She is fortunate she was able to take the private time she needed to be able to treat her "adjustment disorder" and shine when it really mattered. The press and speculation from the world population can be cruel. For Masako, she had the added pressures from the Imperial Household to produce a male heir. In a 2018 article from the BBC, Masako said of Naruhito: "She later told reporters that she had accepted his proposal after he said: "You might have fears and worries about joining the imperial household. But I will protect you for my entire life.""
DeleteThanks Janet, I did not know that history and I’m happy to learn it; and you’ve written it very graciously too! - Grace

DeleteThat is the sweetest, most loving quote. I think I’m in love with the Emperor.
Very very warm-hearted and honest all together!!!
ReplyDeleteI watched the departure video and I must admit, I found it very touching.
ReplyDeleteBoth these royal couples seem so genuine and empathetic to each other, and it is evident from their body language that the bonds of their connections run deep. There's no superficiality here. I wish all four of them the very best.
Empress Masako's pale pink suit is beautifully understated with fine detail. Camilla also looks good and comfortable in her signature style dress. She shows every indication of being a warm and gracious hostess.
I also watched the video clip of the Imperial couple visiting the children at the V&A museum; it was heartwarming to see the ample direct interaction between both of them, but especially the Empress, with all the children. The kids loved chatting to them and the Empress's confidence was very evident. I'd have loved to have seen her accompany Camilla when the latter visited a school yesterday.

The Emperor always looks so dignified and friendly. The Empress’s outfit and smile are lovely.

The Empress's shoes are horrible. They make her feet look twice as long as the actually are. I know she doesn't want to tower over her husband (or perhaps needs comfortable shoes) but, there isn't a stylish, dressy, wedge she can wear?
ReplyDeleteThe Imperial Household has the final say on the professional wardrobe of the Japanese royals. So to answer your question, no, she cannot wear any other shoes. If you look back through other posts, you will notice all the women, regardless of age, have the same basic wardrobe. That includes suits and dresses, formal attire, hats, shoes, and accessories. There has not been a substantial approved update to their style in many decades.
DeleteRavissantes toutes les deux, chacune dans son style ; la robe de Camilla est très seyante avec les plis de la jupe !
ReplyDeleteI was always wondering why the Empress wears pearl necklaces with only one strand but it was interesting to note that for her London visit she was more lavish and wore two strands. Camilla‘s dress is not elegant enough for this occasion.

And those pearls are magnificent. Pearls are my favorite jewel and I’m sorry they are losing fashion.
DeleteOh how wonderful it would be to meet the empress. A close look at the exquisite fine couture would be a dream come true
ReplyDeleteHave never been a fan of Camillas old lady style. Lovely colour though.
ReplyDeleteBoth royal Ladies look stunning. The Empress is as always elegant and stylish. The color of Queen Camillas dress is lovely. I do like this style on her today. css
ReplyDeleteCamilla's dress looks nice, but the diamond and sapphire butterfly brooch is stunning, love it! The Empress looks beautiful, her pearl necklace is the perfect finishing touch, so very elegant.
