On June 7, 2024, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane posed for the media during the annual 2024 summer photo session at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague. The traditional summer photocall is one of two each year the Dutch royal family participates in; the other takes place in the winter months, usually on the royals' annual skiing trip in Lech, Austria.

A big, big mess, this family, both facial and appearance! What a chaos troop! Don't they look into the mirror before a photo session? I feel sorry for the Dutch taxpayers. What a waste of money. If this is just an unpleasant duty for the royal family, then just skip it.

Just because they are Royal doesn't mean they can't also be a normal family with normal hair, and body sizes, and tastes. They all look like individuals and they all look happy in their individuality. Max used to dress the princesses in matching clothes but that would be a bit odd now, no?

Here you can see another amazing example of soaked in luxury people
(and also brilliantly performing their royal duties as far as the King - and a Head of State too- and the Queen are concerned).
Ok, they can have lumps , bumps and maybe you won't find them dressed impeccably most of times but come on, they are tremendously rich!
This is the true cause of your distress as always.
You may want to shift your attention to " worthier" topics in tune with your...uhm...non- contemporary mindset, needs and expectations, no?

Why is William the Prince of Wales instead of the Crown Prince? Ancient custom. Princess Elizabeth, the heir apparent of the Belgian throne is Duchess of Brabant. Princess Eleanor as presumptive heir to the Spanish throne is Princess of Asturias.

      @Anonymous 20:55
I think "crown prince(ss)" is not an official title per se in every monarchy. In the UK it's the Prince of Wales, in Belgium Duke/Duchess of Brabant, in Spain Prince(ss) of Asturias, in the Netherlands Prince(ss) of Orange. It's probably something historical? Like a title that is only for the heir to the throne, therefore crown prince(ss) becomes unnecessary?

For Belgium I've already explained it in the past : Princess Elisabeth (with an "s") is the eldest child and the Crown Princess. Her title Duchess of Brabant which she received when her father became king is not used very often in Belgium (before Prince Philippe became king he was Duke of Brabant, but was never called like that). Before King Philippe nobody have heard of this title. When Prince Albert (later King Albert II) married Princess Paola they received the title of "Les Princes de Liège". After them we have never heard of that title anymore. So in Belgium in the press, on television and in the media in general : Elisabeth is called Princess Elisabeth or Crown Princess Elisabeth. (Since her 18th birthday she can be called Crown Princess).
I think in other kingdoms it might be different. I give the information here for those who are interested in.

      @Anonymous 8/6/24 15:10
Princess Elisabeth is indeed mostly referred to as "the crown princess". That is however not an official title in the Belgian monarchy (and several other monarchies as well).
She inherited the title Duchess of Brabant (at the age of 11) in July 2013, when her father became king. That title is reserved for the heir to the throne.
What changed on her 18th birthday (in 2019) is that she from that moment on was able te become queen if her father would pass away or abdicate. Otherwise there would first have to be a regent until she turned 18.

It is when King Philippe got married I heard the title Duke of Brabant for the first time. I was too young when Prince Baudouin became King Baudouin, but even in biographic books about King Baudouin I never read he had the title of Duke of Brabant. I am sure this title existed already in the history of the Belgian kingdom, but it was never used. On the other hand Prince Charles (Karel) the brother of King Leopold III his title was Count of Flanders.

      Delete
    7. Anonymous9/6/24 19:27

      @ 9/6/24 17:56
The title Duke of Brabant was first used within the Belgian dynasty in 1840, and in 1909 it was decided it would from then on only be given to the oldest son of the king (or the oldest grandson of the king if he didn't have any sons).
Prince Baudouin was Duke of Brabant until he ascended the throne in 1951. Since he didn't have any children it wasn't until his brother became King Albert in 1993 that there was a new 'oldest son of the king': prince (now king) Philippe.
Obviously at some point it changed from "oldest son of the king" to "oldest child of the king", but I don't remember when that was... somewhere in the 80's or 90's I would guess?
The reason why Albert or Karel never were Duke of Brabant is simply because they were not the oldest son of a reigning king.
The title Prince of Liège (who would be given to one of the descendants of a reigning king) is no longer in use, just like any other substantive title in the Belgian monarchy.

That's a nice location this year! Fashionwise, they all look good. But a bit more coordination would have made it look more pulled together: or they all wear a coat or nobody wears a coat, for example. I do like the fact that each one of them is dressed in their own style. Ariane's and Maxima's outfit are my favourite.

Taking into account the weather we had during this Spring, I would have worn a jacket too. At times it was really cold even when there was sunshine. Since the last 3 days it was a bit less cold and we had no rain anymore. I hope we will have good weather in July and August and maybe we will have and Indian Summer this year.
      Fashionwise :
Princess Alexia's dress by Sézanne was not for the Autumn, halter neck (before last picture)
Princess Ariane's dress : the waistline sits too high
      Love Queen Maxima's outfit.
Crown Princess Amalia : nice pant suit ideal until it is really Summer

Her boots look great. Love the large gold hooped earrings. Princess Ariane looks fabulous in this dress. Amalia looks lovely, but the pants need a hem. Queen Maxima, the same. She looks good in this outfit. They are a close knit family and it shows, lovely to see.

On a Dutch site you can read how the daughters all dread this twice a year “ photo opportunity “.
Alas it always shows in their exaggerated behavior.
It is the price they pay for the prohibition of taking normal life picture.
That said: their choice of fashion is not great.
The white summer dress of Ariane is quite nice, Alexia wears an autumn combination, not bad; Amalia hides again in a suit, and mom is the best dressed.
The king should go to the barber, but wears a good suit.

Princess Amalia should stop wearing a jacket slung over her shoulders. Lately she wears it all the time - either a jacket or a coat. I understand that she wants to mask something, but it doesn't work. It just looks gimmicky and unedited.

As a mom,my heart goes out to these young girls.Because of their position in society there’s an obligation to carry out events, and that opens the door to not just positive and lovely comments but also critical unnecessary comments.I’m sure it’s difficult for their Mom & Dad to hear their children being critiqued.
I love how they dress to their personalities. They are after all individuals in their own right.
I love CA suit with a pop of color in the blouse it’s flattering to her coloring.
Alexia- She’s a very beautiful young lady. Her choice again is flattering to her coloring.
Ariane- I see her looking like her paternal grandmother. The same beautiful smile.
I love Maximas jacket perfect with the pants.

Very good-looking family and the only thing I would change here is the hem of Catharina-Amalia’s pants, the length of which looks terribly sloppy and just wrecks the appearance of her otherwise attractive outfit.

  23. One thing you have to learn when you are in the public eye: you have to control your appearance, you have to control your emotions, the way you dress, the way you show up, the way you present yourself. Do not show how much you hate doing this public appearances, don't pull faces! Instead pull yourself together for just five minutes. You are not only an individual, you have a role, that you were born into. Yes, I know, nobody can choose, in which family or circumstances they were born in. But from a certain age on you got to accept your situation. With privileges - the dutch royal family is one of the richest in this world - comes responsibility. I do not like how these three privileged young princesses conduct themselves and I think other european royal houses - the English, Spanish, Belgian, Swedish, Norwegian - have done a far better job to prepare the younger generation for their role.

If you equate “their role” to their appearance, I suggest you have a look (Google will suffice) at the rather much deeper role and accountabilities of the Dutch royal family. Each monarchy has slightly different ones, most of which are outside the public eye. It’s quite interesting in fact if you have time to read (and good sense would suggest you are informed before you cast a judgement). Respectfully, these comments seem quite superficial. Once you get a better understanding of their duties, not just dismiss them as privileged people, you may see some complexity and depth in what they do, so to prepare their respective next generation isn’t in fact at all related to dressing according to some arbitrary expectations. Rest assured, Wilhelm and Maxima are preparing their daughters just fine. You shouldn’t loose sleep on it.
