King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark are making a State Visit to Sweden on 6 and 7 May 2024. On the evening of May 6, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden hosted a state banquet at the Stockholm Royal Palace in honor of King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark. Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, Princess Christina and Tord Magnuson were present at the state banquet.
I love the top and skirt of Mary’s outfit but not together though the burgundy pattern suits her coloring. Her hairstyle is lovely and the ruby parure is just gorgeous. Her overall look is very pretty. Love the simplicity and uncomplicated shape of Victoria’s gown with the flattering neckline…and it’s difficult to see in a still picture but it looks like the gown is sparkly? Not a fan of Sofia’s gown and the clutter of flowers at her neck. Personally anything with a high neck would annoy me but that’s just personal taste. Emerald green is a beautiful color on Sylvia and she looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe much anticipated Danish/Swedish state visit finally here!!! First off I just want to say that I found it really interesting when this visit was first announced that Danish monarchs when crowned visit their Scandinavian neighbors what an interesting tradition. The Swedish and Danish royal families have so much history and family connections, one can definitely see how close they are when they get together. Tonight's looks did not disappoint!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary: starting off with the guest of honor I have to say that I had such high expectations for Queen Mary with this state visit and she definitely delivered. I was a bit disappointed she didn't chose to wear any of the new tiaras now at her disposal, but I think she looks spectacular wearing the Ruby Parure which matched beautifully with her gown. She's had that golden skirt in her collection for years now and I love all of the ways she had styled it ove the years. In my opinion she is the best dressed of the night.
Queen Silvia: her Majesty has worn this gown in the past and I have always loved how regal it looks. The dark green color and style suit her.
CP Victoria: The crown princess tonight is a lovely vision in white . Im so happy she sported the Connaught tiara, it is one of my favorites from the Swedish Royal vaults and it suits her so well. I would have worn a simple necklace to complete the look.
P Sofia: I think Princess looks lovely here, her light blue topaz toppers are definitely one of my favorites. My only criticism is the hairstyle, given that the dress is quite busy at the top I would have gone with an updo.
The Kings and princes all look really handsome! What a joy Princess Christina and Tord Magnuson could join the party.
I think Mary paid tribute to Queen Ingrid, who was born a Swedish princess, with her choice of the ruby parure. It used to be Ingrid's and she left it to Frederik to be given to his wife. Besides I have understood most of the new jewellery at her disposal cannot be taken abroad but has to be kept in Denmark./Grace
DeleteI agree on all points! MR
DeleteI would also have loved to see another tiara, but the Ruby tiara has deep personal meaning to both royal families. It came to Denmark when Swedish princess Ingrid married the then Danish crown prince Fredrik. Queen Ingrid was King Fredriks grandmother and King Carl Gustaf’s aunt. I watched this on Tv and both kings made lots of references to her and other family connections. King Fredrik gave a very good speech both personal and formal, historical and modern covering culture, nature and technology all the time stressing the family bond.
DeleteLove Queen Mary’s dress with the burgundy colored lace a good match for her rubies. CP Victoria’s dress is super elegant in movement and the Connaught tiara is a good match. Love the Leuchtenberg sapphires worn by Queen Silvia. I don’t like Sofia’s dress and the design elements, high neck etc all get lost in her hair. It would all look so much more elegant if her hair was up in an elegant up-do. A gala occasion like this needs serious hair.
QM: Clever rewear from the Queen. The golden gown can be worn in several ways: with a black lace overlay (QMargrethe 50 year jubilee 2022), with a golden top (new year gala 2017) and this bordeaux embellishment modification by Jesper Høvring. Goes well with the ruby tiara and earrings. Could have done without the necklace. Nice messy updo. She looks beautiful with that make-up.
ReplyDeleteQS: 1990's lace gown? A bit too old-fashioned for me. Impressive jewellery, but sapphires with an emerald green gown? No. And a lot of add-on hair in that updo.
CPV: Light and fresh gown with delicate jewellery and pretty hairstyle. Very good.
PS: Boring 'Victorian' gown. Only good thing: it's rewear. But her hair is styled and quite pretty. That's it.
PC: The white lace top is well-proportioned, but the combination with the purple taffeta skirt is jarring.
Amy
Funny how differently we see things. Sapphires with an emerald green gown are a gorgeous combination, IMO. The two colors classically pair together.
DeleteWow , everyone is looking fabulous . CP Victoria wins again to my taste .
ReplyDeleteI love the top part of Mary's evening ensemble. The lace work is stylishly executed on the neckline and sleeves. Had she worn a matching burgundy satin skirt, the ensemble would have been more cohesive and richer looking. The gold skirt is nice in itself, but worn in this way with the beautiful burgundy top, it interrupts the visual flow from top to bottom. A surprising choice for Mary, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have a better look at CP Victorias gown and what's going on behind it. Looks like the gown has a train falling off one shoulder?
Q.Sylvia's gown is of her standard style with no surprises, and I'm not in favour of Sofia's gown at all. Too much material and looks out of date.

They all look ok I guess. Not to keen on Sofias dress. To high neckline and the jury is still out on the application. Victoria meehh, but ok. I like Marys outfit, but kind of disappointed. Had big hopes for another tiara.
ReplyDeleteMost of the tiaras she inherits cannot be taken out of the country 👑
DeleteNope.. Only the royal jewels which is the emerald parure which is under the state cannot be taken out. But the rest which is under the royal trust can be taken out of the country. Maybe the provenance of the ruby parure is the reaaon that QM wears it this time.
DeleteNope.. Only the emerald parure cannot be taken out aa it is under the crown jewels but others is under the Danish Royal Property trust and its allowed to be taken out of the country like the peal poire parure and the flower aigrette
Delete1:12 had to be a drag for Queen Margrethe not to have any tiaras to wear on state visit 😉
DeleteThere are four parures and demi-parures in the Danish Crown Jewels, none of which can be taken out of the country. Only the emerald one has a tiara, though. Some of Queen Margrethe's other tiaras may be personally owned, as Queen Mary's ruby parure is personally owned by King Frederick. We will discover over time which ones Queen Mary now has access to.
DeleteOh, my goodness! Mary looks fantastic! Perfect gown to enhance but not obscure the ruby parure! Victoria’s gown is also a beautiful color for her.
ReplyDeleteThey all look stunningly beautiful!! I wish Q. Mary could have had a new gown for this debut appearance as new queen but her grooming makes up for lack of a new gown. P. Sofia wins the show because I love the color of blue and I love 3 D flower gowns.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you @mary. Sofia looks wonderful in her beautiful gown. I think that I'm the only one who doesn't like Victoria's choice but her hair looks good and she has a beautiful smile. Mary and Silvia are ok, Christina too.
DeleteI do like the garland that Mary is wearing in her hair;stylish. the jewels that match are beautiful Her dress is so pretty.I like all of the ladies dresses (Tara)
ReplyDeleteIs she wearing a garland? Where? I can only see the tiara
DeleteI’m just a teeny bit disappointed with tonight’s outfits overall. Good enough but not great. Both Queen Silvia and CP Victoria share top spot for me. Both gowns are elegant and flattering. Queen Mary is very regal but I was hoping for more of a knockout gown. Princess Sofia’s dress is overly fussy; it would have been improved if she had her hair up and if the neckline was less constricting
ReplyDeleteAnnieM
Likewise. I was deflated when I saw the pics. All looks are nice, none spectacular. Mary remains one of my favourite royals, there’s something very special about her that makes her outfit less essential. I love how she constantly repeats her attire. She truly sets an example for other royals to follow.
DeleteSilvia may have chosen an old-school gown, but it’s a beautiful one she has now worn probably at least a dozen times. Kudos to her for keeping her silhouette intact.
Victoria looks nice and I like the simplicity of her gown. Very quietly elegant.
I personally almost never like Sophia’s sartorial choices. This time is no exception. She baffles me how she is unable to mature in her royal appearances.
All around mostly nice, nothing spectacular, as I said.

Oh my stars!!! Queen Mary looks dazzling! Her gown is beautiful--and the top is perfectly paired with the ruby parure. I love that she chose to wear the rubies--bringing them back to Sweden is a thoughtful idea since it was the then Swedish Princess Ingrid who brought the rubies to Denmark. Queen Silvia's green gown is a beautiful repeat but...she chose to wear the Leuchtenburg sapphire parure!!! Its gorgeous and one of my favorite jewels in anyone's vault. Victoria looks fabulous in her more sleek but super sparkly gown--I really love this gown on her as it is beautifully fitted and the style is so flattering. Again, Sofia hits a wrong note. I really don't this gown--all the frou-frou on the bodice, up the side of her neck, and on sleeves is too much. Had this stuff been removed I think the gown would be gorgeous. Her hair is beautifully styled but I do wish she would wear updos to major formal occasions like this state banquet. Princess Christina looks lovely in her button tiara--I like the white top but perhaps a softer shade of purple for the skirt would have been better. Still, she looks good--and its always good to see her.

The top of QM's evening gown is certainly very interesting, but Victoria for the win at this event. She looks amazing from top to bottom.
ReplyDeleteA big huge NO to Sofia's ruffled mess!
Q M tiara, the whole rubyset came to Denmark with Q Ingrid from Sweden, so very obvious why she used it this night.
ReplyDelete
DeleteNo, it came to Denmark with prinsess Lovisa.
10.06 Yes thats right, I just fogot that, Q I name we hear more often! Both Princess from Sweden!
DeleteVery beautiful gowns on everybody, fantastic tiaras, necklace.…Q M rubyset from Sweden, Q S wonderful smaragdset, Cp V tiara so nice. P C always nice. Sofias dress is better with another hairdo, so much is happend around the neck with all the flowers!
ReplyDeleteFor me the best is PSofia. Such a romantic and elegant dress and the light blue colour suits her very well. Mary is very disappointing to me. Dont like the colours, the lace top and I never liked that crown. Is it true that the Danish royals are not allowed to take there parures etc. Abroad?? What a crazy idea. But why then this one allowed?
ReplyDeleteIt is only four particular parures and demi-parures in the Danish Crown Jewels that are not allowed to leave the country. The emerald parure she wore for the recent official pictures is the only one of those with a tiara. All of their other tiaras are either in the Royal Family Trust or personally owned, and are allowed to travel.
DeleteOMG! The Queen of Denmark has arrived. My eyes were oscillating between the intricacy of the bodice of her gown and the diamond leaves and the ruby berries in the Ruby parure. I am also proud of King Frederick who seems to be so likable. As Queen Margrethe and Frederick himself has said he became confident when he met and married Mary!
ReplyDeletePhoto N° 11.
DeleteKing Frederik seems to be quite relaxed talking to Queen Silvia WITH his elbows on the table.
Photo N°12.
Prince Daniel seems to be having a nice chat with Queen Mary WITHOUT his elbows on the table.
I hope his mother gets on the phone to him and does a little explaining about table manners at a State Banquet. Not too late, you know.
On another site there is a photo of The King and Queen of Sweden and the King and Queen of Denmark sitting for a photoshoot.
King Frederik is sitting with his legs wide apart whilst King Carl Gustaf is sitting with his legs closed.
One commentator said “He should be taught to close his legs when sitting”
I think there is still a bit of the “wild young boy” in King Frederik which is not a crime but maybe he needs to be reminded about ‘decorum’ for a State Banquet.
The photo of King Frederik sitting for the photoshoot has now appeared on this site. (photos N°16 and N°17.
DeleteThe man behind the design of Victoria's gown is the wellknown showman Christer Lindarw!
ReplyDeleteMary looks absolutely beautiful! And so does Victoria.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Coralie!
DeleteEverybody looked lovely, but I am not a fan of Sofia's look. The dress is too much material, her hair is too much.
ReplyDelete08.19 I agree!
DeleteJe suis ravie que Mary ait amené dans ses bagages le diadème diamants/rubis qui se combine judicieusement avec le haut de sa tenue ; superbe son chignon !
ReplyDeleteIs Pss Sofia pregnant?
ReplyDeleteLily
Grow up!
DeleteWhy all these nerves? Normal question.
DeleteIt's not a normal question. It only tells the world who we are as a person. How would you feel if someone asked if you were pregnant when you weren't? Sometimes we should let some thoughts remain in our head.
DeleteTo anon 20:25
DeleteI don't understand your problems. You need must be very unhappy person.
Lily
I'm very happy. Thank you for your kind thought. I just think we should use a little decency. Never say things to a royal that wouldn't say to our friends and family, and certainly not didn't want anyone to say to ourselves. Again, how would you like it if you dressed up in your finest dress and someone asked if you were pregnant?
DeleteBeautifull, elegant Mary: her lace top is so delicately done.
ReplyDeleteQueen Sylvia: always loyal to her classic style, very good.
Princess Victoria: sorry, but this dress lacks fantasy; her tiara is stunning.
Princess Sophia: how young and sweet she is!
This “innocent”dress suits her well.
QM - I read that the burgundy appliqué was from Jesper Hovring 2018 collection. I think it’s splendid that she finds interesting ways to re-wear items from her closet. I wonder if a sleeve would have finished off the the addition rather than a cape effect. She wore the Ruby Parure as a nod to Queen Ingrid was the cherry on the cake!
ReplyDeleteQS- I’m not completely blown away with the green gown. But,oh my the sapphire Parure is truly stunning!
CPV- She is the stand out of the night. The ice blue gown is perfect on her! Very stylish!
PS- A rewear and her wedding tiara is very flattering.
Lowri.
Ist Sophia wieder schwanger? Es gibt einige Bilder vom Staatsbankett im Netz, wo man es vermuten könnte?
ReplyDeleteStop. Just stop. How would you feel having someone come with a comment like that if you weren't?
DeleteWith all the connections of the Swedish and Danish royal families the choice of the Danish Ruby Parure was absolutely inevitable. It was one of Queen Ingrid's favourite jewel sets. As for Princess Sofia - I simply wish to see her in something else than her wedding tiara with topper gems matching her gown for a change. And an updo, please, especially when wearing dresses that are very busy around the neckline. It so clashes with her hair worn down.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure Sofia has been invited to wear any other tiara yet....(?) hence the frequent use of her own.
DeleteAbove comment was mine. Just forgot to properly login. Sorry.
DeleteTo Anon21:11 - She did wear several of the other Swedish Tiaras already, so the Steel Cut Bandeau, the Napoleonic Amethyst Tiara, and the Four Button Tiara. The Swedish are known to share them quite freely, with the exception of some pieces either reserved solely for the queen to use or that might be personal belongings. But for some inexplicable reason Pss Sofia only showed up in her wedding Tiara (with interchangeable toppers) in recent times.
DeleteVery very stylish the women's outfits, lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary's jewels wow! this parure, each piece I adore. No matter how many times she wears this tiara in particular, I never tire of it. Her gown looks lovely, though I am not a fan of the overlay or the burgundy lace, too dense.
ReplyDeleteQueen Silvia looks lovely, but I am not a fan of this gown. The contrast of Sapphires and the green gown works well.
CP Victoria looks lovely, but I don't like this gown and the tiara, well, it doesn't have much substance, the design of it, I don't like. Overall she looks bland.
Pss Sofia, I dislike this gown, way too much going on and fussy. Streamlined and sleek, would have looked far better, more elegant. Her tiara though nice, I wish she would wear something different. Yes, its versatile, but I am getting sick of seeing the same one all the time, just changing the stones.
Just beautiful. The gowns are repeat which is perfectly fine. I love the Tiaras. css
ReplyDeleteHello Deadeggs, When I was referring to King Fredericks confidence I was not commenting on his posture, I was talking about his ability to give speeches, attend engagements, and interact with world leaders. His Mothers comments and his as well I think are backed by her abdicating early as she said she never would and making him King so early!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary and Princess Sofia look gorgeous.
