What a rubbish waste of money on that tree limb thing on Max's head. Makes her look looney.
ReplyDeleteAlways makes the oldest daughter wear trench coats to cover her figure, she is beautiful, allow her to be a young woman.
PL has a very dated 1970's pant suit, looks as goofy as Max's hat.
First of all, I don't find your ‘goofy’ comment very respectful. Furthermore, Amalia is at an age where she decides for herself what clothes she wears. And 'the tree limb' you mentioned is an ode to the city they visit: the butterfly city

DeleteCP Amalia is not the only one who is wearing a woolen coat, not a trench coat. Maybe if you were there you would also welcome a warm coat over you dress. In the morning always t° under 10 degrees C. In the afternoon a bit warmer but still not warm enough to run around all the time in a dress or a blouse with skirt or pants.
15:15 not your scene, eh?! I love the exuberance of Queen Maxima and I love the humour and joy in her outfit. King’s Day is a really fun day and many get involved with the party (and selling their wares). Why not celebrate with fun?! As for the oldest girl’s coat, I think she may well be choosing it herself; without more information, let’s use the fact that she very frequently holds her hands or bag in front of her, or wraps a wrap or coat around herself as a little evidence that she feels self conscious with the tremendous exposure and potential criticism. I agree, she’s beautiful! (Grace)
DeleteQ. Max looks amazing…only she could carry off wearing a shrub on her head! The rest of the outfit is lovely - flattering colour and a good fit. I’m not crazy about the uneven hemline, but she certainly has the height to carry it off. Speaking of height, it looks like the youngest daughter is the tallest of the three. Where has the time gone? (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteMaxima’s outfit is fantastic. The girls have grown to be lovely young ladies.
DeleteI like the colours and shape of queen Maxima’s outfit, only the wisteria on her head is not my taste !!
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 16:17
DeleteWisteria ? The hair decoration has nothing to do with flowers or plants but with butterfly's. The city of Drenthe is also called the butterfly city.
Amalia also wears butterflies in her hair.
DeleteI admit I am not familiar with the city od Drenthe, however it will be difficult to make me like the hair decoration.... For the rest, I think everyone made a good dressing choice, incl Pr Amalia; I feel sure she decided for herself.
DeleteI like Amalia's butterflies better than Máxima's, but they do match her exuberant style. Everything else is lovely.
DeleteIn my opinion another fantastic look by QM today; would love to see the delicate dress without the cardigan. An what a super nice twist that hair decoration worn by the queen:: Emmen is considered the butterfly city of the Netherlands!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite tired of the moaning about the Queen's hair and the fact that she doesn't know how to dress for the occasion. If this queen and her family are not appreciated by many, then 'King's Day' would not be such a big celebration every year. Maybe not always to my taste, but I appreciate that every member of the Dutch royal family has his/her own style; a style that very often has lots to do with fashion and hardly is to be called predictable!
All other royal family members look nice in their own style as well; a colourful and joyful bunch all together
Totally agree with you! 👏👏
DeletePaula
Great comment. It is funny how many who comment on this site assume to know more about appropriate wear for occasions than the queen involved. In this case, I think this particular queen knows what she’s doing and is very much loved. (Grace)
DeleteAnonymous 16:25, beautifully expressed and I am in total agreement; sometimes I think some of the commenters here just do not like QM, I love her vibrant personality, openness and how she speaks, welcomes and shares time with everyone she meets with a beautiful smile and joy, she is awesome and her taste is her own, Gemare
DeleteHeat, hear!
Delete@ Anonymous 20:00
DeleteI fully agree. Maxima looks great, elegant dress - and she can wear such an extravagant headband.
Τo the point! Totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Delete@anon 16:25, I fully agree with you. You said it perfect.
DeleteGirls looking beautiful! but Maxima had to put a pot of plants on her head to draw even more attention to herself
ReplyDelete@ Anon. 27/4 16:28
DeleteThe hair decoration is not a pot of plants but butterfly's because the city of Emmen in Drenthe is know as the butterfly city.
Yes, most of what she wears is to draw attention to herself. Plants or butterflies, neither one belongs on one's head.
DeleteRachel
Great shade of green for her!
ReplyDeleteHM Queen Máxima was beautiful as ever in Natan. The butterfly hair decoration of Berry Rutjes was to compliment Emmen the 🦋 butterfly city. The rest of the family was ok, but who has the biggest budget to buy Haute Couture!!! The three princesses have not really a feeling yet for what is fashion about....
ReplyDeleteThis head decoration is absurd for a woman of her age. She must not look younger than her daughters, she had a life full of responsibilities already and can be proud of it.
ReplyDeleteYou don't get don't you. Kings day is the feast for the king's birthday. Every year another town in The Netherlands has been chosen to organize it. The royal family is coming out in the streets to interact with the people of that town. There are all kind of activities for children, for adults, you can eat and drink something that the different shop keepers prepared especially for that day. The king and queen sometimes participate together with the habitants in the activities that are organized. Princess Beatrix did it with her family when she was the queen. Her mother Queen Juliana did it with her daughters. It is a tradition that is very much appreciated by the people of The Netherlands, as well as by the Royal Family.
DeleteJust asinine
DeleteOn ne peut pas la rater. C est Maxima et cela me convient. Elle a une forte personnalité.
ReplyDeleteCette famille élargie a l air de bien s entendre et de rester à leurs places..
Froufrou
As far as I can see it - and I'm convinced of it - this is pure 'joie de vivre' on Maxima's part. "Have fun with it, and don't always take everything in life too seriously!" It's a fun and happy day and I commend her for her whimsical and playful, positive sense of humour. Brava to her!
ReplyDeleteI love Maxima's outfit and indeed those of all her children (the girls and the king look great) and all the other members of the royal family. Princess Laurentien wears her retro style suit very well, and everyone seems to be having a grand time - which is exactly how it should be on this day.
Happy Kings Day to all.

Queen Maxima : lovely dress. A pity the hemline is uneven. The color suits her. The hat decoration is not a plant but are butterfly's referring to the city of Emmen which is also called the butterfly city.
ReplyDeleteCP Amalia : lovely dress and dark green woolen coat. Her hair is beautifully styled. The golden hairclip representing butterfly's belongs to Queen Maxima.
Princess Alexia : beautiful woolen coat in the color "red brick". She wears a lovely cream dress without sleeves underneath. The "red brick" boots are finishing her look perfectly. Her hair has a beautiful color.
Princess Ariane : a 3 pieces pant suit in burned orange. She is the youngest and the tallest of the 3 sisters. She looks lovely.
The wives of King Willem Alexander's brother and cousins are looking lovely each in their personal style. The weather was too cold this year not to wear a coat almost all the time.
I think Ariane is the nicest of them.
Delete@ Coralie.
DeleteYou must not say such things. Do you know them personally ? A couple of years ago when Princess Ariane was still a child, it was Princess Alexia who was considered as being "the nicest". Young people who are still developing change quickly. King Wllem Alexander and Queen Maxima can be proud of their 3 daughters. It is a loving family where the love between the parents is shining on their children and vice versa.
Anonymous 13:47, I can say what I want.
DeleteI love that they are distributing the traditional "tom pouce" (pate feuilleté filled with vanilla creme) to the locals.
ReplyDeleteI just saw a close-up view on another site of those delicious looking pastry squares that they are serving and I must say, I wouldn't mind eating one myself! Yum.
Delete- Anon 9:13
I like Maxima’s outfit very much with the exception of the headpiece, which makes her look like she has a plant on her head. The 3 daughters look lovely.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
Delete@16:25 recent polls indicate that the popularity in The Netherlands of the Dutch royals has dropped dramatically over the past 2 years. Perhaps that is the reason behind today`s display, quite frankly it looks like a performance by an amateur dramatic society. There is no fashion here but a lot of awful outfits + the hair extensions bandeau. The men, however, all look very dapper!
ReplyDelete@Azalea
DeleteIn every country with a monarchy you will always have royalists and anti royalists, especially in times like we are living now in Europe (and in the rest of the world).
It looks like fun!
DeleteBeautiful, especially the nice touch to our butterfly city 🦋 Proud dutchie! 🧡
ReplyDeleteTo me, it looks like Queen M knows the head piece is silly and that she did it for the fun on it.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteOh, the butterflies are for the city! Very nice. I'm going back to commenting a day late to get all the info first. Christine
DeleteYou are disgusting.
DeleteChristine, what is it you are saying? Maybe I am missing something. I understand you to say if a mother's "fat deposits" are linked to babies brain cells, Amalia could potentially have geniuses, and thus have the last laugh? Please tell me you are not trying to put a positive spin on this young lady's weight. I am not sure why you are mentioning a princess and fat deposits at all.
DeleteIt is actually butterflies on the headband, since the city is the butterfly city of the Netherlands. Amelia is wearing a butterfly clip in her hair. All look lovely and I do not think anyone is making anyone wear a coat. It is raining and perhaps cool. In one photo it looks like a woman is holding shawls for the royals. I like the sweater on the queen as well as the lace of the dress. I am not a fan of high/low hems, everyone is expressing their own fashion. Alexia sure likes to pose, she looks better when she doesn’t know the camera is on her. Happy family
ReplyDeleteFYI Maxima is wearing a 'hat' with butterflies placed on it because the city that they visited (Emmen) is called the city of butterflies. Maybe keep that in mind before placing a less friendly remark. Doesn't mean you have to like it of course ;)
ReplyDeleteAmalia has a gold version of it in her hair, made by Argentinian jeweler Celedonio.
It was a very nice day, but also quite cold with 10 degrees C. If you have the chance to see a video of it (summary) you might see the fitting and colors of the clothes and the butterflies a bit better.
Well said.
DeleteWhat was princes Laurentien thinking OMG ! Amalia looks verder nice. Her sisters also verder pretty. Queen also fine , hat a bit strange
ReplyDeleteI’m not a huge fan of Natan. But if anyone can pull it off it’s Queen Maxima.Though I’m not too sure about the head piece. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe girls are comfortable in their individual styles and choices and that’s what fashion is all about. That said,I’m puzzled by Princess Lauretin’s choice.
Everyone looks to be having a fun day.
Lowri
Just fabulous all round. Queen Maxima looks so joyous. It must be wonderful to be in the crowd and be able to meet her. The dress and jacket ae smart and the hat matches her general exuberance.
ReplyDeleteThis time, I love the dress that worn by CP Catharina Amalia. Great length, flattering neckline and suits her well. Nice to see her looking relaxed and happy with the crowds.
Princesses Alexia and Ariana both looking good as well though Ariana's bag seems unnecessary.
Finally, wonderful to see the wider family out in strength supporting their cousin
Finally, once again we see the whole family. Everyone is in great spirits. The Pss's are no more little girls they are young ladies. Maximas's dress I like a lot. One of the nicer designs from NATAN. Any of the girls can wear their mothers coats. Nice outfits all around. It seems every had lot of fun too. Pss Laurentien really needs help with fashion. What a turn out. css
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima looks good but the headband is too much. She needs it pruned--sorry, I couldn't resist. But really, if it were scaled back it would look wonderful. I like what the princesses are wearing: Amalia looks beautiful in her green dress and coat--green is a beautiful color for her; Alexia looks great in her white and red although I wish she had worn shoes instead of boots; Ariane looks awesome in her suit--its perfectly fitted and she has marvelous posture and presence. Laurentian looks good--and I actually like her suit as its great color and looks good on her. I just wish the trousers were a bit longer as her shoes (typical Laurentian but I don't like them at all) are showing too much. I don't know the names of the other 2 ladies featured but I really like their bright pink and blue outfits.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Princess Aimee and princess Marilene
DeleteHer name is Laurentien not Laurentian. Is it so difficult to copy it correctly ? (see the introduction).
DeleteAnonymous 18:17, please don’t criticise others’ writing here with a snarky tone. It makes it a negative place rather than fun sharing. It’s a little error and we all make one from time to time but there is no edit button once we hit PUBLISH. Let’s be kind and enjoy each others’ contributions. (Grace)
DeleteIf you write each time the name of a royal in the wrong way when you just have to copy it, to me it looks
DeleteLovely family!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of all ladies today, especially Maxima. If anyone can pull it off, it's her. And what a way to pay a tribute to the visiting town, incorporating it into the appearance! Late Queen Elizabeth II mastered it, I'd like to see it more often among royal ladies. And Maxima's smile is so contagious! Of all the other royals, only Japan's emperor and empress, and Luxembourg's Guillaume and Stephanie (when with their gorgeous children) have that kind of smile that makes me happy instantly and I just can't get enough of their photos!
ReplyDeleteA.N.
@ A.N. You forgot Queen Mathilde and CP Elisabeth. They are smiling all the time when they are visiting an event or assisting at a conference.
DeleteThey look great. Would skip the garden Maxima has on her head, though, and has never ever understood what Laurentien is thinking, choosing her outfits, but as long as she feels good in them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know... They always look like a circus troupe...
ReplyDelete@JustAGirl I doubt if Her(late)Majesty would have considered a hat adorned with eccles cakes if she had visited Eccles! Maxima`s alice band seems to sport green butterflies which makes it look like a bunch of leaves, something more tasteful like C-A`s hair clip or colourful butterflies may have had fewer negative responses. I think the women in general are poorly dressed whilst the men actually look quite dapper. It is the `King`s Day` yet he seems to fade into the background.
ReplyDeleteAlways so positive about QM ..... And well, as this is a (royal) fashion blog, (royal) men tend to fade into the background in general (so don't blame a queen or princesses for this)
Delete@Azalea
DeleteThere are several sites with pictures of King's day in The Netherlands.
There are also video's of these festivities. You can hardly compare the late Queen Elizabeth with Queen Maxima. This kind of interaction between the king/queen does only exists in The Netherlands. Queen Maxima distributing food, singing and dancing with the locals. I never saw Queen Elizabeth doing this with their protocol in the U.K., besides Queen Elizabeth was a lady from another era.
Anon 14.14 : maybe you should except that other may not like Maxima nor her style.
Deleteaccept…
DeleteThe most beautiful and happy royal family! I adore the Queen’s outfit from head ornament to shoes; she looks so feminine without being froo-froo. All three princesses look lovely and polished. Make me smile to see the Dutch Queen and King so happy and engaged with their fellow citizens. MR
ReplyDeleteI much prefer when QM is not so thin... Nevertheless, the girls look beautiful, especially Ariane. And they all appear to be a natually happy family.
ReplyDeleteJe suis ravie de voir le rajout de la dernière photo sur laquelle le serre-tête de Maxima nous montre mieux des papillons ; je préfère quand même ceux de Amalia !
ReplyDelete@18:24, I would never compare Her(late) Majesty with Maxima. Queen ElizabethII was a Queen regnant - born royal and Head of State, Maxima is neither. I also lived in the Netherlands when Beatrix was Queen regnant and can`t remember`Queen`s Day` being quite so much of a carnival - but `a lady from another era`!
ReplyDelete
DeleteMaybe you should go over your memories, as it was former queen Beatrix who introduced this kind of birthday celebration when she succeeded former queen Juliana. As you don’t seem to like QM nor her fashion choices (which is totally acceptable), just stop reading posts about her or at least stop bening so subjective when commenting. By writing this I in no way imply that never something negative can be said … only when one’s negative upfront, it doesn’t seem fair and imo tends to be a personal vendetta
@ Azalea
DeleteOn kingsday there have always been food and drinks to taste in the streets, sports and playtime for the younger population, music and dance, concert podia on the water in the evening, etc... If you look at "getty images" or "you tube" you are receiving a quite different image of how kingsday has been enjoyed. As long as the king and the RF of The Netherlands like it, mission is accomplished. Besides what people like in one country is not necessarily the custom in another country. If you don't remember how it was when Beatrix was Queen, maybe you didn't participate at the fun of that National Holiday.
@ Azalea 29/4 02:55
DeleteBut you did compare Elizabeth II with Maxima : "if her late Majesty would have considered a hat with Eccles cakes if she visited the town of Eccles". Please stay a bit with the subject and don't write things in one comment and than a few comments later saying you did not compare the late Queen Elizabeth II with Queen Maxima.
Dear Anonymous (plural), I have already apologized to Helen for making a scientific or medical comment on a fashion blog. Going forward, I will stick to the topic of fashion. My mother had many cousins and brothers-in-law who fought during WWII, so you have the democracy and freedom to object to my comment. I have survived 9/11/2001, and cancer. I wish you people would 'fight nice' and tone down the attacks on people with whom you disagree. Christine
ReplyDeleteChristine, you are clueless as to what the problem is. You were commenting on Amalia'a weight. That is never acceptable behavior. You aren't the only one who has been guilty of doing it, but commenting on weight, whether you believe someone is too heavy or to thin, is not okay. Trying to dress it up in a random "I read somewhere" factoid doesn't make it any less inappropriate. Girls and women do terrible things to their bodies to try and achieve a weight that society finds acceptable (meaning they won't discuss). We must be supportive of each other, not saying things to cause each other distress. Moving forward, let's sick fashion. That is what brings us all here in the first place. 💐
Delete@Christine,
Deletewhat if someone should fat shaming you?
How would you feel?
Then, I personally find your attempts at justifying your behaviour poor and not sincere(my personal view, of course).
You begin the fight and then ask others to " fight nice and tone down"?
It is paradoxical.
Your speech at 18:43 is impressive but you should have considered that your behaviour on this blog may result in unpleasant consequences before starting YOUR fight.
You fight with yourself, can you realize that?
If you despise some royal ladies , why do you keep on writing commentaries on them?
My personal percepition is that you see something of yourself in some royal ladies and you do not accept that so you try hard to hurt them.
But you are just hurting yourself first, imv.
Please, think about It.
Bye.

@.... Christine
DeleteI just want to add that if what you said yesterday at 18:43 were true, you would be more compassionate and empathetic to some royal ladies, irrispective of their age or of the physical" faults " they may have in your eyes.
It sounds quite odd that a person that has suffered so much throughout her life like you seem to be , then shows a sort of cynicism and lack of sensitiveness in judging other women so harshly, especially young ladies .
That is a fact and your comments speak volumes.
I find this kind of behaviour of yours to be clearly dysfunctional.
I might be wrong, of course, but let me say that your words at 18:43 do not resonate as reliable to me.
Your comment seems to be your last resort to try to get some kind of approval.
There's a Latin phrase to describe your attitude in your comment at 18:43 : " captatio benevolentiae".
Don' t you think that it' s a bit too late to ask for compassion after all the lack of compassion you have spread on this blog at the expense of some targeted royal ladies whose only " fault" is to be beautiful and to be portrayed on this site?
It's a couple of days on from this event but I thought I would share with my fellow posters the description of Queen Maxima from the Mail online
ReplyDelete"For her hair, the royal's luscious blonde locks were tied downwards and decorated only with a middle part"........
It's different!
@17:50 my response to JustAGirl was a statement not a comparison, there is a difference!
