  1. As a royal watcher these past 2 weeks have been such a treat; here we have yet another state visit and this time its Sweden's turn to host. I had really high hopes but tonight's looks were a bit disappointing. I don't know what it is but lately the Swedish Royal ladies haven't been serving the best looks.

Queen Silvia: her tiara and jewels are gorgeous but I do not like the dress. It is not flattering in my opinion the color is a bit of an eye sore.

Crown Princess Victoria: definitely not my favorite dress as it looks like a robe. I do love how the princess looks in white however. Im glad she sported her laurel tiara it is such a delicate and beautiful piece of jewelry.

Princess Sofia: I love how the princess wore a repeat gown, i believe she first wore it to the 2015 Nobels. I wish her hair would have been pulled back to see her brooch and earrings. I was really hoping the princess would wear a different tiara. Don't get me wrong I love the versatility of her own tiara but it would be nice to see her in something else for a change.

Next month the Swedes will host the Danish monarchs in their first state visit, I can't wait to see the outfits they have in store!

Genni, I do like your summary, and find it very fair. All the gowns seem a little bit wonky one way or another. The Stockholm spring light coming through the windows onto the Queen’s face is splendid. (Grace)

    Tiaras, orders, and jewels…woo hoo!!

QS: I think this hot pink always looks beautiful on the Queen, but the cut of the skirt makes it too wide. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but she could have left that gorgeous diamond necklace in the vault. There are too many items on her top half.

CPV: I’ve always loved this dress with the fun feather detail, but I’m not sure it works with all the jewelry and order.

PS: Nice dress but think an updo, without a middle part, would have improved the overall outfit.

FL: She looks stunning in this Grecian gown! That fabric can be tough to wear but she is owning this and gets my vote for best dressed!

Gorgeous jewels from the ladies of the SRF--how marvelous it is to see all these fabulous treasures! I have to give the fashion stakes win to Princess Christina--simple, classic evening gown that is simple yet elegant. Queen Silvia, Victoria, and Sofia are a let down. I love the color of Silvia's gown but the style is not flattering. The skirt looks like a bell, the fabric looks too bulky, something is off with the usually super elegant Silvia. Victoria's gown looks a bit too much like a peignoir--the cape part is the real problem. A redesign involving the cape would be a huge improvement. Sofia needs to start wearing her hair up when she wears a tiara--she doesn't do it too often and I think we miss her earrings too many times. Also, I really wish she would wear other tiaras in the Swedish collection--her wedding tiara is beautiful and quite versatile with the different topper choices but seeing her in other options would be nice. The gown worn by the Finnish First Lady is pretty but I don't like the color (maybe its the photographs or my screen but it looks olive green) the style of the neckline, the slouching "sleeve" is not a plus. Had she just had an off the shoulder or one shoulder style I would love the style of her gown.

In my opinion the First Lady of Finland is the fashion winner. I love that dress that looks like liquid gold. Queen Silvia gives me Barbie vibes, Sofia, s black dress is just, we'll, too black. And Victoria's dress lokks more like beachwear.

Dear No Name 1:37, I agree with you, Queen Silvia’s dress is very overpowering, especially the cut. Princess Sofia would certainly look more elegant with pulled-back hair. However, I doubt whether she can wear a different tiara, because they are worn according to rank and protocol is decisive.

    1. Princess Sofia has worn other tiaras of the Swedish Collection before. They are known to share them quite often and rather freely, much like the Dutch also do. Only a few pieces are reserved for the Queen or Crown Princess exclusively. Which might be the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Suite, the Branganza Tiara, and this one (Nine Prong, or Queen Sofia's Tiara) QS was wearing here, for the Queen, and the Baden Fringe, as well as the Laurel Wreath (as worn here) for the Crown Princess. All else seems to be fair game.

Unlike most, I love Queen Silvia’s pink dress! Crown Princess Victoria’s cape is just… please, no! The jewels are gorgeous, but the combinations are not. Silvia and Victoria could have dropped the diamond necklace, and Princess Christina should have left the large gold medallion back home.
Two black (or dark blue) dresses are way too depressing when honouring a nabouring country, but the two first ladies saves the overall impression. JC

It is strange, the Swedish royal ladies all wear repeated dresses, which have received good comments during the past years. Now they are receiving the contrary bad comments. Take the sashes and orders away and the dresses would look much better. The jewelry is usually overdone : tiara (of course) + big diamond necklaces + earrings + brooches. Better wear one or two beautiful pieces and keep the rest simple. The best dressed is the first president's wife and she is not wearing a lot of jewelry.

I have to agree with the other comments.
QS - The pink and style is not as flattering as other gowns we’ve seen her in.
CPV- I’m not overly taken with the tassels on the dress.I wish she’d wear a brighter lip color.I know they don’t go for a bold lip,but maybe something in rose color.
PS - I love how versatile her wedding tiara is.It’s a delight to see how many precious stones she adds to the tiara. I would have loved her hair to have been up.
FL - The 1st Lady,is the clear winner. The gown is exquisite on her.Her hair and make up is also on point.

Dear No Name 11:47, The Swedish royals do not represent themselves on state occasions, they represent their country, their jewellry belongs to the state and what is worn, when and how is governed by intricate protocol. I remember there were similar remarks recently regarding Queen Margrethe (less would be better etc.) and a blogger here gave very interesting, logical background information on the various items, sashes etc. Your plea for simplicity is not realistic.

All their jewelry does not belong to the state. E.g. Victoria is wearing a tiara she inherited from Princess Lilian and Sofia's tiara was a wedding gift. So those pieces are private property./Grace

What? There is a protocol for orders and sashes, but none of them must wear a diamond necklace or a brooch from the collection of jewels. Victoria’s and Sofia’s tiara is not owned by the State, both are private property. Simplicity is a personal choice.

    3. Virginia,
not a single item of their jewellery is owned by the State. They're either private, or in the Bernadotte foundation (which is also a private family foundation). Maybe you're mixing it up with Denmark, some of their jewels belong to the Crown.
There is no protocol for jewellery wearing, only for sashes and orders.

I like Sofia’s look the best here. I think her hair looks beautiful worn like this and her jewelry is beautiful. I think part of why Silvia’s and Victoria’s outfits are not my favorite is due to the Finland collar/chain they are wearing - of course they must and should wear those for this event, but I think they may make it tricky to figure out the right neckline shape since the ladies more frequently wear sashes. Finland’s First Lady is striking and elegant, although her extremely contemporary necklace is not to my taste.

The winner is clearly the wife of the Finnish president: the dress is simple, but beautiful. stunning greek style. It's a pity that the author of the blog focuses on the details of only the royal ladies (there are photos of them sitting at the table), the Finnish first lady is in the photo maybe only because she is standing next to Queen Silvia. Often the wives of presidents or women - presidents are more elegantly dressed than royal ladies. Above all - the first ladies of France (Brigitte Macron), Poland (Agatha Duda), Finland (Suzzane Stubb) or Madam President of Slovakia (Zuzana Caputova). Sure, they don't have tiaras, but they can be even more of an inspiration for fashion fans than the royal ladies.

I fully agree. I also like Victoria's dress a lot. I'm a bit amazed it gets such negative comments. It fits like a glove and the cape part gives a little playfulness to the outfit.

Don’t like Victoria’s dress. Love Silvia’s pink, but the winner here for me is Sofia. Love that dress the first time she wore it. And I think she really does love her tiara. But she has worn many more in the collection. Just not recently. Some might be heavy for her. She seems to like hers and it was a gift from her in-laws. Love the changes she has made to it. Sarah

Fine, most of the jewellery of the Swedish royal family belongs to a foundation, in other countries to the state, understood. This still signifies that they represent
the Crown and choose their jewellery according to protocol, history and other aspects.
