On Wednesday afternoon, April 24, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands visited the Taal aan Zee Foundation in The Hague. The foundation gives Dutch language lessons to foreign women, refugees and asylum seekers. More than 330 volunteers provide educational activities for about 1,400 students per year. This year Taal aan Zee celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Taal aan Zee Foundation gives lessons at their central location, but also to vulnerable non-native speakers at their home or at nearby schools and community centers. In addition, Taal aan Zee has a collaboration with The Hague Library for the 'Language in the library' project, and language buddies are formed to travel together.
Overdress! to see a charity providing a service to migrants.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I also do not care for the mustard color or large hat.
DeleteRene
a pair of trousers, regular blouse, a blazer and lower heel shoes would have been great but i suppose this is too low for Maxima's standards.
DeleteHow honouring for the queen to visit your organisation and dress up fabulously to spend time with you. I think she looks stunning. (Grace)
DeleteOverdressed?!? That's what Queen's are for! Well dine Queen Maxima.
DeleteI just love this dress with complementary accessories (and the wind which caused some laughter at all ends); nice fit and fantastic overall look
ReplyDeleteI do not like the dress or the earrings. But this is Maxima. And if someone can pull it off, then it is Maxima. Maxima wears the clothes, the clothes doesn't wear her.
ReplyDeleteI like the outfit. Very appropriate for spring, even though it's not spring weather. I just don't understand why she chose to wear a hat this wide to meet people indoors. It's not a ceremony, a smaller headpiece would have been more practical.

I love Queen Maxima’s fashion.
DeleteHer smile is great. The outfit is a disaster.
ReplyDeleteKim
I love this full outfit on Maxima - colour, style, hat..everything, but my first impression was that it was overkill for the event she was attending. I can only imagine that she had a more glamorous event to attend either before or immediately after this one.

I don’t like this color. Maxima’s hat , dress and shoes are all mustard color. I feel like her skin color has also changed to this color. It looks weird.
ReplyDeleteThis color is called chartreuse. Mustard is a very different tone.
DeleteWhether chartreuse or mustard....it is an unflattering color on her and on most people.
DeleteLady M
I agree with @ 18:30 and @ 20:50. Maxima dresses to be centre stage and in doing so the focus is on her rather than the event and those attending. The earrings are awful, the lace/crocheted gloves are silly and so 1950's, the dress best suited for a cocktail party and a totally unsuitable hat both for the event and the weather.
ReplyDeleteMax, they're called hatpins. I would think you of all people would have a wide selection of bejeweled ones.
ReplyDelete:)
I think she looks great and I suspect she dresses to honor the organization.
ReplyDeleteBetsy
22.46 I think so to! Lovely dress on a lovely Q M!
DeleteI think she looks very elegant and stylish. Our late Queen always wore a hat and a beautiful dress with a coat. I miss not seeing her outfits.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be two trains of thought when it comes to dressing a Queen for a charity visit. One side says she should dress average in trousers and a nice blouse, the other side is dress like a Queen.
ReplyDeleteI'm on that side. Maxima doesn't need to dress down to relate to people. It's clear in photos she loves people and they love her. She seems a very down to earth person who just happens to wear fabulous fashion and she wears it well!!
Cinci
Nice summary Cinci! Totally agree. I always get a bit of a giggle when people say she doesn’t know how to dress for an event… there will be so much protocol and planning around her visits, with nothing left to chance, and all outfits chosen for a reason, and absolutely apt. (Grace)
DeleteI'm in your cheering team @Cinci.
Deletewhy don't we all go to the office dressed like we are going for a wedding
DeleteMaybe some of do go dressed up to the office, how do you know? Especially those of us whose offices are in royal palaces.
DeleteQueen Elisabeth never dressed down for charity visits. Why would other queens be different?
CH
Maxima’s dress is a rather jarring color, but fine. I think the oversized hat seems borderline ridiculous for this event, however.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
Maxima, was your dressing room light on when you got dressed? What an over-kill on the color of outfit, hat, etc. Course anything to gather all the attention on herself. Nice smile, but thats about it.
ReplyDeleteShe looks quite like Curious George's friend, the yellow hat man....
ReplyDeleteTrue!!!!
DeleteI find the fabric too stiff and shiny so I bet it's Natan.
ReplyDeleteThe wearing of a hat is a bit over the top for this particular visit.
No it’s not. This is an official visit - hat required!
ReplyDeleteRossella 🌹
It was a festive day for this organization, they were celebrating an anniversary. The queen payed respect by dressing festive! Why on earth should she be down clothing when people do charity work?
ReplyDeleteLisa
Exactly! This was an official visit, not a working visit - hat required.
DeleteLove this beautiful dress in mustard colour. It's simple with a little twist at te left shoulder. Did you notice the crocheted gloves with little flowers. Super! Maxima is an added value to the 10th anniversary of this charity organisation
ReplyDeleteLe monochrome moutarde lui va à merveille mais le bas de sa robe aurait mérité d'être plus droit !
ReplyDeleteOMG she really looks overdressed but that’s Maxima always in the attention.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, everything must always be about her. Never allows anyone else to shine.
DeleteTiger Lily
It is not charity work, it are educational lessons to learn a foreign language.
ReplyDeleteDutch is not an easy language to learn for an immigrant. English is much easier to learn. But it is very necessary to speak and read a bit of Dutch to integrate in countries like The Netherlands & Belgium. In Belgium there are also different possibilities for immigrants to learn for free foreign languages.
About Queen Maxima's outfit : I like it. The color suits her, the cut of the dress is very classic, but like someone said she is dressed to assist at a wedding. She is overdressed for this event. She has so many outfits that she could have find something that is lovely but not overdressed.
yet again, my comment was not published. my opinion is mine, and yet it does not matter? come on, that is the way a healthy blog is managed, varying opinions, is what life is all about

Queen Maxima is dressed like a Queen. If the Royals dressed casual as some persons seem to think they should (but no black, or too flashy, or too boxy, or too fitted, or too long or short....) then why would ANY of us be here? I want to see Royals dressed BETTER than me, better then the people they are with, BETTER because they are Royal. I can see average in Vogue.
ReplyDelete(A) Queen Maxima is dressed as a queen should be dressed (B) Queen Elizabeth II used to dress as a queen should be dressed (C) Queen Sirikit of Thailand 🇹🇠dressed as a queen should be dressed! (D) Kings used to dress as Kings now they dress in every day suits
ReplyDeleteI like Q M's outfit. Judy.
ReplyDeleteShe loves to stand out. Bright colors, weird gloves, big jewelry, big hat, big smile. Natan is perfect for her, but elegant? hardly.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that there is an organization like this in the Netherlands, and it is wonderful that there is a beautiful and superbly dressed Queen that takes time to honour it. It is also very nice that the Royal family is hard-working and not embroiled in family feuds!
