On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands opened a new branch of A Beautiful Mess in Amsterdam. Through this social restaurant with event and workshop spaces, the Refugee Company Foundation aims to support participation and inclusion of people with a refugee background.
After the opening ceremony, the Queen attended a panel discussion about the role and meaning of A Beautiful Mess for that kind of people. How the initiative works to give participants a meaningful life in the Netherlands through an apprenticeship program or paid job was also discussed.
A Beautiful Mess restaurants are an initiative of the Refugee Company, a foundation that supports newcomers in the Netherlands to gain work experience. The Foundation provides perspective with the aim of helping people integrate and find paid work. Other A Beautiful Mess branches are in Utrecht and Arnhem.
the hat is overkill for the occasion, otherwise, nice outfit
ReplyDeleteFully agree about the hat.
DeleteYess, she can!
ReplyDeleteÉblouissante de la tête aux pieds.
ReplyDeleteDétail original sur la robe
Froufrou
Not very suitable for visiting the restaurant and the refugee center. This putfit with a big hat looks bizarre and funny while cooking (maybe pizza). The dress is quite nice, but for a completely different occasion.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
I think she looks lovely and is showing respect for those she is visiting.
DeleteI would love to go to this restaurant.
its getting more ridiculous every time, all that jewelry while serving food at a refugee center!
DeleteI agree this is a (royal) mess even from the smile I get exhausted.
DeleteHowever well-meant this public needs a different approach.
The hat is an 30's film noir inspired hat and too much decoration.
Keep it simple and keep it clean.
The dress is a better choice and with a simple earring ( or 2 haha) better off.

Great outfit from hat to shoes!
ReplyDeleteIf I were to suggest a change, it would only be for a smaller hat (same comment for yesterday's beautiful chartreuse coloured outfit). I find that these wide brimmed hats (which I love, and which Maxima wears so well) are better suited for outdoor events than indoors.

Agree with you. Not a fan of one coloured outfits as I've often said, but an exception is due for an all red outfit! The hat is wonderful It's so over the top and so Queen Maxima
DeleteI would like to know more about hat wearing etiquette for royals. Since most men and women now a days don’t wear hats even to church, to me it is starting to be an outdated stuffy fashion.
ReplyDeleteAnon 23:30
DeleteI think these days there is a lot of etiquette rules that belong to the old days and don't work any more in a changing world, not to speak about the differences in the countries that still have a monarchy.
The design and color of the dress is great, but not suitable for this occasion.

DeleteI agree.
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteOnly Maxima could wear this for doing food preparation.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
Haha, you are so right. No one would ever forget meeting this exuberant queen. (V.M.)
DeleteI think she over dresses. Some outfits don't match the event. Maxima needs to be more sensitive and dress more suitable and for the occasion. Keep hats and all the jewelry for very formal occasions. Stop being so grandiose.
ReplyDeleteBut being a Queen, she is automatically grandiose.😁
DeleteYou' re exactly right, @ Deadeggs!
DeleteShe’s just an average person that happened to marry a crown prince. She’s no god. Please.
DeleteDisagree with you (no name 23:27.
DeleteShe is not just an average person.
People actually like the queen to look like a queen. It’s a sign of respect to dress up and make an effort. People would be very dissapointed if she showed up in jeans and a jumper. I think she looks fab here. Red suits her so well and with another colour as accent it would be less striking.
ReplyDeleteA Pantsuit in this colour would have been a better choice for this event.
ReplyDelete100% no.
DeleteWhen she entered the restaurant, chef said: You can leave your hat on!
ReplyDeleteI'd say the same thing if she came to my house for an afternoon tea.
DeleteYou can leave your hat on?
DeleteOh, dear...
It reminds me of something else, actually.
Are you sure, ...@ Beth?
She has no sense of occasion
ReplyDeleteWhat does this even mean?
DeleteYes, Maxima may be a bit over the top as usual but I think you misinterpreted the captions.
I understand that this social activity and the Regugee Foundation aim at providing jobs and inclusion to people with a refugee background.
It focuses on giving the opportunity to get paid work and integrate refugees.
Maxima, as the Queen of the Netherlands, is bringing a message of hope to people escaping from wars, famine and poverty.
I think one should take some time to look into what Is explained through the captions provided before jumping to false conclusions.
Maxima surely has a bubbly personality showing also through her sartorial choices but I think she just wants to make these people feel accepted in the Netherlands and that's all.
Lady in Red is just stunning and her beatiful smile👏
ReplyDeleteQ.Maxima is beyond spectacular!
ReplyDeleteAnother example of Max overdressing for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteBelle combinaison de couleur rouge mais à mon avis, ce style de chapeau est un peu trop encombrant ; plus de sobriété aurait mieux convenu. J'aime beaucoup qu'elle ait ressorti ses boucles d'oreilles !
ReplyDeleteBut Tulipe (Achard62) “plus de sobriété” for Q.Max, I don’t think is possible.
DeleteShe is the Queen of OTT. Over The Top and I hope she never changes.
Yet again overdressed, doesn’t she know this from herself or does she adore being the
ReplyDeleteCenter? The outfit looks great although
She really thinks she’s fabulous. Cringe.
DeleteThe hat was ridiculous! Her shoes and clutch should have been in bone. She needed much less jewelry and let her dress stand out. She looked like a hot mess.
ReplyDeleteRight, @ Anonymous at 12:20.
DeleteThis what I call a classy comment.
Well done.
Her dress is too short...knees when you are older, are not elegant.
ReplyDeleteOlder?😂
DeleteI'd say that it all depends on a woman's overall figure.
Q.Maxima's amazing body shape and legs call for at least knee length clothes ( or just a little bit shorter).
If she weren't a Queen, she might even venture to wear more risquè outfits and would look splendid for sure.
Trust me👍
She wears all strong and bright colours very well but I agree on a smaller (or no) hat. The shade of red of her shoes, though, is too dark.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a Queen you can never be overdressed. Glad Queen Maxima does dress grandly so often unlike some other royals who are too casually dressed most of the time.
ReplyDeleteAgree; if she would have 'dressed down' in this case, some would have written that she didn't make an effort for these people
DeleteI think some people would like to see Queen Max in a sack and would still be unhappy about her color choices. She's gorgeous, her outfit is gorgeous and she LOOKS like a Queen. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more, Lorraine; one doesn't have to like all this queen wears nor does, but for some it holds that they disapprove of everything which has anything to do with QM ... (jealous?)
DeleteElla es Argentina...y como todos los arge hace la diferencia....hermosa persona !
ReplyDeleteWhen she met Nigeria's President she wore a too large outfit and bad hair. However, to visit a restaurant from the Refugee Company, she goes all out, big hat, bright dress, lots of jewelry, and silly faces in all pictures. She's always marching to the beat of a different drum.
ReplyDeleteRed is her color. I like maxima in big hats. css
ReplyDeleteLovely colour and beautiful dress, why overdressed?..
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks fabulous, love the design and fit is wonderful. The hat looks great. I think the red accessories are a bit too much red. A contrasting color overall would have looked much better. Regardless she is Queen and she reflects this in her dress. Well done to her.
