The southern part of Jægersborg Hegn, a forest park located just north of Dyrehaven, has been integrated into Dyrehaven (The Deer Park). Queen Mary attended the inauguration ceremony of the expansion. Queen Mary released two deer in the new part of the zoo.

The two deer are descendants of the deer in the original zoo, which was established by King Frederik III. After the ceremony, Queen Mary and the Minister for the Environment took a short tour of Dyrehaven. Jægersborg Hegn covers about 550 hectares. All entrances to the park have a characteristic red gate.

She copied an Ranger in the Australian outback.
Maybe she is inspired due to her heritage and having good memories.
It looks good in private but maybe to much for a queen?
Without the hat I think is more suitable now she is so out of touch with the danish people -Anna-

@Anna 15:05 My thoughts exactly: the hat is too much. Nothing wrong with the outfit as such in this context, and the hat itself is nice too - but a bit out of place in my opinion. Feels a bit too play-dress-up for my taste.

She’s out of touch with the Danish people? From all I’ve read she’s very much a loved queen in Denmark … have I been reading the wrong publications?! (Grace)

@Anon 15:04 Anna: Can you kindly explain what you mean by saying that she is so out of touch with the Danish people? Is this something new since she became Queen?
From all indications she seems to get along very well with the Danish people, and it seems like a mutual admiration situation. Do explain yourself in case those of us who live all around the world are unaware of something. Thanks.

It is pretty sad when I see Mary wearing this hat and my first thought is about the odds of seeing a stupid comment like the one from Anna, followed up by the one from Anon 15:58. The idea of a book of "sartorial rules" that royals must follow when seeing to their duties is ridiculous. Imagine Chapter 8592: Releasing Deer From Crates. It sounds like you want robot royals that dress and act according to some archaic set of standards, devoid of any and all personality. For those that like seeing queens planting trees in dresses and tiaras, get a doll and act it out with any wardrobe you want. We are a quarter of the way through the twenty-fifth century! Get with the program!

    6. The Danish people at the occasion seemed delighted with her. Where are you getting "out of touch" from?

My comment was the follow-up on Anna´s. My point was that - to my personal taste - the hat is what makes this outfit archaic. No one said this kind of activity should be done in a dress and tiara. The outfit she has on is perfect and looks good on her. But personally i would have skipped the hat because that gives it a too formal look imo.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the way I first understood the "out of touch"-part was that the formality of wearing a hat in this occasion was out of touch with the people attending. But it could be interpreted in different ways of course...
On the topic of liking the hat or not: it all comes down to a matter of taste I guess. Just like Maxima's hair, Victoria's bun, Mathilde's Natan-choices, etc... Some like it, some don't. And that's not the end of the world ;-)

@Anon 12:45 Mary's hat is not a formal hat. It is a casual, outdoor hat, typical in Australia. In America, a comparable hat would be a cowboy hat. They are quite suitable for keeping the elements out of the eyes and off of the face.

      @anonymous 20:12
I'm not that familiar with Australian nor American outdoor hats. But a (typical?) American cowboy hat woud have the brims stand up on the sides I think. They would also be made of different material I guess.
The style of the hat may not be overly formal, but the material it's made of makes it look (too) formal to me in this setting and in combination with the rest of the outfit. Don't get me wrong: I like both the hat and the outfit, but the combining of the two is not what I would have chosen for this activity. The hat (similar to this one) and coat combo she wore earlier worked a lot better in my opinion.

I think she looks great for what she's doing. She's the Queen, so she still has to have a little something extra (like the hat). But overall, she looks beautiful, and like anyone at the park.

Love Queen Mary's look! The hat is a perfect wayy to shield her from the rain yet make her more accessible than an umbrella would allow for the people who came for the event. The deer is a beautiful animal.

Love this whole outfit, especially the hat! I’m not sure what’s around her wrists, but it looks like a luxurious fabric. Great photos of the Queen standing on the tree stump and the deer running out of the cage.

    1. Agree, she looks great! @Kteach asked where the king is? The king surely has plenty of duties of his own. Mary is able to perform her own representative duties like the king does his. I think there is no drama and imo no need to try stir up gossips about it.

Something about this hat doesn’t look quite right to me - not sure if it’s the style, the size, or the brim that is making it look off. I like the rest of Mary’s outfit.

I like Queen Mary's outdoor look. The green is very country;the hat looks ideal for the Danish outdoors. If Mary wasn't the Queen in Denmark.I could see her either the top of the Corporate ladder,or out on a Cattle station;she is so good and adaptable, how lucky are Denmark to have her (Tara)

@Anna, it seems that you always have something negative to say about almost every person portrayed here, and of course that is your prerogative, that being said, I personally think that she looks fantastic, chic, and a little playful with the fabulous hat, and totally in tune with the event. Regarding your comment about her being out of touch with the Danish people, I don’t think that is based on any actual truth, but mostly your personal outlook.

One can always find something to critic someone. Today it is Mary's hat. Tomorrow it will be one of Queen Mathilde's fedoras again. How many comments she already had on her hats. I like this Australian rangers hat and the rest of her outfit, very appropriate in the woods and in nature in general, no matter in which part of the world you are.

This is not a fancy hat, it is a hat that is created to coop with the weather circumstances. To wear when you have work to do outside, it protects against all kind of weather conditions. I never saw Princess Catherine or Duchess Sophie wearing a hat like that.

9:07 - I have seen plenty of images of Princess Catherine and Duchess Sophie in this type of fedora. Please look to People magazine for images, as I’m unsure how to post images on here.

  20. Nice outfit. Personally I'm not fussed either way about the hat, although I think the reasoning behind wearing the hat is the weather (it is cold). If you look at the crowd, some are wearing hats or have their hoods up.
