Queen Silvia's dress is lovely, but I don't like the sleeves. I would have made them in one piece, not in 3 pieces and let them end a bit lower under the elbow.
The 1st lady's dress is classic and fits her well.

Not even 3 pieces but 4 pieces! Doesn't look good.

Totally agree with you on the sleeves. The lady in the beautiful black dress is Sara Aldén, wife of the Ambassador

Anon 9:13 I was not counting the collar but started to count with the golden part, next the orange part and at last the little golden part just above her elbow.

Queen Silvia's gown looks very 'costume-y' to me, like something you'd expect to see at an opera - on either side of the stage. This is probably because of the layers of ruffles on the sleeves, the shiny brocade, and the metallic fabric bands, all combined with the collar and the colour of the gown. It's all too fussy. The colour itself as well as the collar are quite lovely but to me would have looked much better on a simpler, sheath style of gown with that collar and a narrower band around it if the band was necessary at all.

The ambassador's wife on the other hand, looks sharply elegant and sophisticated in her black gown, as indeed do both the gentlemen in black tie.

The top completely destroyed Silvias dress. Please redesign.

Slightly exaggerated there eh?! I think firstly she looks wonderful, so the dress must be doing something right. Secondly, I think the sleeve design is a nod to Mexican National costumes which frequently feature multiple layers, eg in Chiapas style. I love it when visitors such as the royals wear a local designer or something with local features; I find it fun and very thoughtful! - AnneLise.

No, not at all. You do realise this is probably an old reuse for Silvia? Have a feeling I have seen it before a long long time ago. You can see this not exactly fit her anymore. Check chest/waist. When this was made the top of the dress was in, not so much anymore. Now it looks outdated. Should it be new a bad, bad design and fit by the designer.

  7. Beaucoup d'élégance chez toutes les deux ; les cheveux de la Reine sont superbement bien coiffés et surtout d'une belle couleur qui sont en harmonie avec les teintes de sa robe !

My first thought was Aztec/Mayan/Inca gold influence of Mexico. Kind of has that vibe to it in the sleeves and fabric. The suit might be a rewear, fits perfectly.

I like the first lady's dress better - good cut of the dress. It would be even better if the dress was in a different color - for example, blue or burgundy.

  15. Queen Silvia's dress looks great on her. What a lovely colour. I'm undecided about the sleeves. The other lady's dress is a great style but, like Stephanie, I would have preferred it in a brighter colour.

Love this evening look from Queen Silvia--she looks radiant. I would, as others have said, changed the styling of the sleeves--probably would have removed the 3rd tier, the solid orange-ish color.

The fabric of the gown is lovely, however the layered sleeves make the outfit tacky, elementary dressing part 1.
