Wow! They look so relaxed, happy and joyful! Queen Silvia is really in her right element 💃🏻
I adore that the king and queen wore local traditional wear for the dinner in Merida 😍

  2. The day dress is pretty and feminine.
    Sensible walking shoes.
Not so keen on the evening dress which perhaps would be more appropriate as a bedspread.

The evening dress is a tradituonal handstiched and embroidered Yucatan dress, probably a gift from the Mayan delegation she met with.

Queen Silvia looks lovely in her Summer dress. King Carl-Gustav seems to enjoy this visit to Mexico. I don't like the evening dress very much. It looks a bit like a table cloth.

I like the day dress. Nice colours and vivid bird pattern. I would have liked it even better if it had been 5 cm longer.
My first reaction when I saw the evening dress was WHAT!? Then I realised it is a folk costume. Unfortunately it does not make it prettier. Love the Kings embroidered shirt.

Queen Silvia never wears her skirts or dresses long (unless it is an evening or gala dress). Her day dress ends just under the knee, which is the best for someone who is not very tall and especially now that she is wearing flats. Nothing less elegant than a dress or skirt that is too long and is worn with flats.

  5. Si je dois choisir une robe, celle d'été est vraiment à mon goût ; le roi Carl Gustaf a dû apprécier l'allègement dans ces costumes habituels. Le prince Daniel devrait s'en inspirer !

Nice to see the ethnic clothing. The kings shirt is interesting with the pin tucks and embroidery. I noticed he is not wearing a belt, unusual for him. Pretty bright dress on what looks like a very hot windy day.

  9. Love the queen's tote bag. As for her choice of dress for dinner: I like that it seems to have taken place in a very relaxed, sort of informal atmosphere, and that she and the king opted for a rather folkloristic approach of dressing. However, this one picture of her in that dress might not do the whole outfit put together justice. On the fence on this one.

Looking at these pictures has made me think their family photo albums must be absolutely incredible.

She had the most amazing natural face and beauty. It’s a pity she destroyed it

Love seeing KCG and Queen Silvia in this less formal part of their tour. I have been to Uxmal site and it was so hot I thought I was melting (I visited at the end of May). I am amazed both look so fresh because the high in Uxmal was 97 degrees! I love both of Silvia's dresses too. Her day dress is perfect for a visit to the site--covering her from the intense sun but the fabric being light-weight. Wearing a hat is almost mandatory given the strength of the sun and no cover except shadows. I will say I'm a bit surprised neither the king or queen are wearing sneakers or similar footwear but I guess they were comfortable in their choices. Both look marvelous in their choice of traditional styles for the evening dinner. Silvia's dress is beautiful. Hope they enjoyed their visit to Uxmal as much as my family did.

They seem to have enjoyed their trip very much. The king is caught smiling more than usual. Silva's bird dress is delightful, and it is so nice to see both of them enjoying the last part of their visit wearing traditional garments. I know they are very comfortable for the climate. It is sad to see so much less respect shown for cultural costume than is usually shown. That is part of the beauty of seeing the differences in each country.

  17. The King and Queen look splendid in their day and night outfits. Great to see the Ķing smiling so. Queen S's hair has been so nice on this trip.

  18. Not a fan of the green dress which looks very mumsy! It might be the paring with the flat shoes and would possibly look different with a heeled sandal. On the other hand, when you're in your eighties you are probably allowed to look mumsy on a warm day of sightseeing. Not sure of the evening outfit. I understand that it's worn in honour of the hosts but as Cate says it has bedspread (or tablecloth) vibes and doesn't flatter at all.

Dear AnnieM, I think the day dress, which you describe as mumsy, is far too short and would look much more elegant if it were longer, especially in the wind. The pattern is very interesting.

The first couple of photos, the dress the Queen is wearing looks like a house dress. Then the dress pattern is repeated, but the bottom half of the dress has a different pattern. Not fond of any of them.
