The Duchess of Edinburgh attended a gala for the Dispensaire Français, a non-profit organization providing medical and social support to French and French-speaking people in the United Kingdom. The biennial gala event took place at The French Residence in London.
The Duchess of Edinburgh has been patron of the Dispensaire Français since 2022. Before the Duchess, the late Queen Elizabeth II was the Dispensaire's patron. The organization provides services for more than 2,000 French and other French-speaking beneficiaries each year.
ALAIA Metallic Fit and Flare Midi Dress
Not many words needed: the DoE looks wonderful; this dress suits her very well and hair and jewelry are spot on!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, would like to have closer look at the earrings. anna e.
DeleteExactly my thoughts. Wow! The first time I like the nearly ankle lenght dress on her. Normally her dresses are too long for my taste. But this time spot on. Very elegant look - dress, hairdo, make up, accessoires.
DeleteYes. She really did get the whole thing spot on, didn't she? 🙂
DeleteBeautiful dress that I would love to have in my wardrobe. Looks very good on the Duchess. Love her hair styled this way. Very elegant look for the occasion. The other lady in first picture also has a nicely patterned dress.
ReplyDeleteI agree.

Beautiful until you see the length of this dress. Better on the model.
ReplyDeleteAways, always comments about the length of her dress.
ReplyDeleteOf the British women I know, this is the length they like.
British fashion perhaps?
Dear @ Deadeggs,
DeleteI know what you mean as I myself know a lot of British women wearing the same lenghts on their clothes.
My personal view is that boring and pointless comments on the Duchess' s clothes lengths are due to a lack of cultural knowledge.
I think fashion rules/ habits are part of a country's culture too.
Now, if someone isn't almost certainly used to touring countries abroad and has spent her entire life in the same small corner of the world, how is this person supposed to know different traditions and be ready to understand the world out there?
What's more and on the contrary, the same person may be surprised at seeing some other royal lady in her fifties showcasing much shorter skirts/ dresses and beautiful legs and may end up bashing her.
It has already happened as a matter of fact.
That royal lady will be labelled as " inappropriate" to say the least, I bet.
I label as " inappropriate" whoever is narrow- minded and unaware of other cultures and traditions!
Isn't it funny?
It is one thing if the dresses and skirts are supposed to be Maxi length, and an entirely different matter when they are worn a foot longer they were made to be worn. The garments are not shown to their best advantage. There is always personal preference, but I have always thought Sophie looks her best when her hem is below the knee, not above the ankle. She looks young in the face but her clothes tend to age her. It may be a British trend in certain circles to wear hem lengths that long, or maybe Sophie is having some fashion influence! So far, I don't see it elsewhere with the exception of an actual Maxi.
DeleteDear P. Seems you have a lot of time… ;)
DeleteIn an American fashion magazine (2019), they asked the question
Delete“why do British women like their dresses/skirts long?”.
It is a magazine aimed at upper middle class readers.
This is what they said ……
1/ elegance and style
2/ Sign of social status and wealth
3/ protection from the cold English climate.
No mention of the royal ladies was made.
I just read Princess Catherine had surgery and is in hospital !! Info confirmed by Royal Palace. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html
ReplyDeleteJust read it on bbc news. And the king is to hospital too.
DeleteYes, I read the notice from Kensington Palace on another platform. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

No, the King is not in hospital. He will go next week for a procedure, but he is currently not an inpatient at this time.
DeleteSophie looks sleek and chic. If the dress had been 2 inches shorter it would have taken her look up to another level, but even with her beloved longer style she looks great in this dress. Azzedine Alaia for the win! (Remember his 'bandage' dresses of the 80s?)

I think she looks wonderful. This dress really suits her figure although I would love to see it a bit shorter. Her hair looks great. She has it at a good length so that it can be pulled up and look very elegant. She is a beautiful woman.
ReplyDeleteAgree 100%. Stephanie
DeleteAgree. It’s a great look but just a little shorter and it would be perfect. Lovely Duchess
DeleteAnnieM
I would have preferred to see Sophie wear this dress as it was designed to be worn. As usual, it is much too long. The other thing I don't care for is the way she wears the neckline. It is not meant to be worn pulled down snug, but as a portrait or funnel neckline. The sleeves are also a little snug. It is a beautiful dress, but could look much better.
ReplyDeleteWow great looking dress, css
ReplyDeleteSophie looks fabulous!!! Love everything here and can't wait to learn more about her earrings.
ReplyDeleteJanet
This is a very pretty dress, she looks beautiful, very elegant.
ReplyDeleteElegant dress, lovely colour, Sophie wears this well. Edwina
ReplyDeleteSophie is a wonderful person, much loved 💞
ReplyDeleteIndeed a respected and loved royal. She looks dramatic, feminine and soft, and just super in this dress. Especially the neckline is unusual but lovely on this dress. Marie-Christine
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress. The color, style, and fit are perfect!
ReplyDeleteLady M
I like this dress on her. Very nice. Well done.
