On January 15, 2024, the Danish Royal Family, that is, King Frederik, Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte and Prince Joachim attended the Danish Parliament’s celebratory reception, held on the occasion of the succession of the throne. Afterwards, the royal family attended the reception in the former Upper Chamber.
A meeting was also held in the Chamber, where the Speaker of the Parliament and the Prime Minister delivered a speech, and in that connection, the Prime Minister offered a verbal announcement from the King to the Danish Parliament.
Queen Margrethe of Denmark abdicated yesterday. On January 14, in front of a Council of State at Christiansborg Palace, Queen Margrethe signed a Declaration of Abdication. The Queen was succeeded immediately by her son, who became King Frederik X. Crown Princess Mary became Queen, and Prince Christian succeeded his father as Crown Prince of Denmark.

The new Queen Mary looks fantastic. I’m very much hoping that she will be a queen who wears brooches and hats, as well as enjoying the fashion she enjoys, and her hat and brooch today are beautiful. Margrete looks delighted and I hope she’s feeling much relieved. - AnneLise
ReplyDeleteAgree, wearing brooches and hats, so important. Forget real charity work, because it's just a simple thing for peasants, who welcome monarchy-fairytales.
DeleteTotally agree with AnneLise!
DeleteDear Anonymous 15:42, Why did my joyful comment warrant your snide response? That doesn’t feel so good. This is a fashion blog so I commented on fashion! Were we on a charity blog, I would have commented on charity. That said, Mary does much charity work personally (in issues around school bullying for example), via her foundation (providing focus and funding) and also as Patron (eg of the Danish Refugee Council) … but on the day after becoming new queen is surely allowed to wear a hat she already had in her wardrobe and an heirloom brooch, and I’m surely allowed to enjoy these things. - AnneLise
DeleteCompletely agree. The colour is beautiful and I hope that hats will feature regularly on more formal occasions. I love the third photo of Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte, being supportive and enjoying the occasion without having to "perform". I hope Her Majesty is able to enjoy a long and healthy retirement.
DeleteAgree with you, AnnaLise. anna e.
DeleteI totally agree with @AnnaLise. Nice words.
DeleteBeautiful dress in a superb colour. I am not too fond of the hat with its high funnel shaped crown. I think there is a name for the style . She har at least one other in this shape and I find them too dominating. Just my personal taste.
ReplyDeleteQueen Margarethe´s powder pink ensemble is very pretty as is P Benedicte´s coat.
I think the style of the hat is called "Fedora", but I am not sure.
DeleteI like these hats a lot. The high shape replaces a "crown". They are dominating but that is what they are supposed to be.
It is odd Queen Mary is not wearing a coat or at least a warm cape or wide scarf.
I agree with your hat comments. I do not think it is an attractive style.

DeleteThe Fedora hat.
DeleteThe information below is a copy and paste from Google.
"Fedora Hats were first seen as a feminine hat with masculine undertones in 1883, inspired by a drama called “Fédora,” created by the French playwright Victorien Sardou. Sarah Bernhardt, a French Actress, played the star role of Princess Fédora Romanoff who was wearing a stylish, center-creased, soft brimmed hat".

I did some more research about the hat. Apparently the shape of the hat Queen Mary wears is also worn in the past by Queen Mathilde (I found 2 hats) and Queen Maxima. Although these hats were also higher they were called Fedora hats too.
DeleteMary's outfit is beautiful. The blue colour is vibrant, the style is elegant and classy and the hat is very flattering and complimentary with that eye catching feather. I like that she added a lovely pin/brooch which is subtle but adds some allure. I'm amazed she is not wearing a coat because it looks quite cold outside. The older ladies are quite bundled up in comparison.
ReplyDeleteThe king and queen only had to walk from the car to the door while the others were waiting outside to greet them. It was cold and windy with snowflakes in the air.
DeleteNone of the gentlemen were wearing coats, either. Just the older ladies. I think this may be for the benefit of the photographers. I do hope they didn't have to stand outside very long.
DeleteI think the sapphire brooch was given to Queen Mary by Queen Margrethe when she had Christian. Could be wrong! FITZHUGH
DeleteI have the feeling that Queen Margrethe’s new coat is made of false fur. Must be a relief to those who fret over her old fur coats. I much prefer the beauty of the old fur coats but perhaps she has to wear this unattractive creation to calm down
ReplyDeleteother quarters.
🌞 Virginia
It's absolutely real mink
DeleteThe beauty of those old fur coats are caused by the brutal slaughter of animals resulting in great suffering. I prefer the unattractive creations.
Delete😂 Hilarious, Virginia. Totally agree with you. I hope it’s an old real fur coat. Much warmer, does no harm and kinder to ‘the planet’ than synthetically manufactured ones.
DeleteDenmark is the world's biggest producer of mink fur, so no she won't get in trouble for it there.
DeleteWhat I would like to know is why people only criticize royal ladies' furs but not their crocodile purses?? Yes, many of them have them.
@20:50 does no harm, it kills about 150 animals that you do not eat and is for vanity! SOooo cold...FITZHUGH
DeleteUnd ich dachte, der Mantel bestünde aus Stoff/fabric und nicht aus Pelz. So wirkte es jedenfalls auf dem Fernsehbildschirm.

The Danish or Danish government whoever is responsible for the production of mink should be ashamed of themselves. I saw the horror of how the minks are treated and could not believe Denmark would allow such a thing. I used to think they were so compassionate and kind and progressive. I was wrong.
DeleteIt is not many steps the go between the warm car and Christiansborg!
ReplyDeleteI do not care for Mary’s hat due to its height and feathery embellishment, but otherwise I very much like all the ladies’ outfits and jewelry. It is nice to see the family members looking proud and happy together.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
I agree, Royal Watcher! I’ve really enjoyed the photos from the weekend of events and today was no exception. On an unrelated note, CP Christian seems to still be growing…he looks taller than the last photos, which weren’t that long ago!
DeleteAll three ladies look lovely, but I particularly love Mary's outfit, especially the vibrant yet regal colour, and her stylish hat. Nothing OTT here, just the perfect tone.
ReplyDeleteI'm touched to see the warmth shared among all the family members, and especially to see Joachim and P.Benedicte. And it goes without saying that Q.Margarethe is the matriarchal star. Lovely lady.

I think that Mary is wearing the brooch that was given to her when Christian was born. She wore it to his Christening and subsequent christenings of her children. The color of her ensemble is beautiful and her hat is dashing and a fabulous finishing touch.
ReplyDeleteGreat look for the RL. So nice to see them all smile. Great outfit for the new Q Mary, css
ReplyDeleteGreat to see queen Margarethe looking so very proud at the new king and queen !!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary's outfit is superb, beautiful blue suit. The hat is gorgeous, suits her perfectly, the styling of her pair, divine. Love, love! the diamond and sapphire brooch. Pss Bene, as always beautifully attired and elegant. Margarethe looked beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit for Mary, but the hat is too big, completely covering her face. The hat immediately reminded me of men's fashion from the Renaissance. For example, Rembrandt painted Protestant scholars in such hats (For example, the painting The Anatomy Lesson at Dr. Tulp's)
ReplyDeleteSisters Benedikte and Margrethe are very elegant and age gracefully. Maybe because they are always smiling and avoid plastic surgery. Of course, always appropriately dressed.
Stephanie
QMar looks stunning--gorgeous blue suit and her hat adds that extra touch elegance. I love that she is wearing the brooch gifted to her by QMarg upon the birth of Christian. I love the picture of QMarg and Benedikte by themselves--those smiles for arrival of the new king and queen are almost conspiratorial and so happy! QMarg is bursting with pride--you can see it in every photo. Glad to see Joachim remained in Denmark to attend the Parliamentary reception honoring King Fred and QMar.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Splendida regina Mary, ma il cappello non mi piace e visto da dietro, ultima foto, sembra quello del "gatto con gli stivali".
ReplyDeleteRossella
The hat, the gloves, the brooch. Mary looks like a Queen! cinci
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte. The bond between the 2 sisters is priceless and a great pleasure to see!
ReplyDeleteAnna
Ah Great pictures, lovely smiles, happy vibes! All the very best to the Danish monarchy!
ReplyDeleteJen
Seeing Benedikte and Margrethe together is wonderful. They both look amazing and elegantly dressed. - Louise
ReplyDeleteMary loves her new titel!
ReplyDeleteWhy shouldn't she?

That is a wonderful photo, I agree! There was quite a round of hugging and kissing when they all met there, before heading inside. It was sweet to see.
DeleteThank you @anon at 14:39 for those links! I have seen them too because I follow Danish "BILLED BLADET" and it's a pitty that many people do not have the opportunity to see "the whole picture". There are so many great pictures of Mary and Frederick with their children looking happy and so in love. I'm a very lucky person because I can follow many papers in different languages.
