Princess Aiko of Japan turned 22. Princess Aiko was born on December 1, 2001. On the occasion of the birthday, the Imperial Household Agency shared new photos. The photos were taken on November 24 at the Imperial Palace. Currently a fourth-year student at Gakushuin University's Faculty of Letters, the princess has been studying on campus in person since last spring after attending classes online during the coronavirus pandemic.
Princess Aiko has turned into such a lovely young woman. I quite like the dark red on her winter dress, in contrast with the fluffly white of her jacket. No pearl jewels, which is not often with the ladies of the Imperial Family. She seems to be a quiet, wise person, though she is under such scrutiny and media attention. I hope she had a wonderful birthday.

unfortunately bangs/fringe does not work for her. if only would style her hair backwards
ReplyDeleteThe last photo is lovely. Those colours look perfect on the Princess and I like the cropped jacket. Wishing her a very Happy Birthday.

But how can you say that? Poor girl, she's dressed horribly. Stefania
Delete@ Stefania, I understand your reaction according to our standards in many parts of the world, but according to Japanese standards her clothes are probably quite nice.
Delete@Stephania: As far as her cultural/imperial esthetic of fashion goes and not being one who is dominated by Western trends, she is dressed very well.

This is not how a 22 year old young woman dresses. The women in the Imperial Family are told how to dress by a group of men. It is difficult enough being a princess and not fitting in with your peers, but they don't even let her blend in with her clothes. It must be smothering to be a member of this family. My worry is how long Aiko and Kako will feel obligated to stay in the family before choosing to marry and leave. I can't see a modern woman in this day and age marrying a royal cousin in order to stay in the family. This family is in real danger of dying out due to their own reluctance to modernize.

DeleteExactly what I thought too. I didn't dare to write down my thoughts this time. Frankly I don't bother any more to start writing on some royals because it is always the same. The pro's against the contra's. It is becoming very boring. There is only a little group of royals who are dressed beautifully, elegant, classic in a modern way and who are following fashion without being influenced too much by the street style the commoners are wearing.
A very charming young lady…
ReplyDeleteI love that red color - she looks so cute and elegant at the same time. C
ReplyDeleteAw, she is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI really like Princess Aiko. She looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe photos were taken on 11/24 at the library on the palace grounds.
ReplyDeleteIn fact I wonder on occasions for her to meet young people. But the Imperial House probably doesn't want her to meet them... see the case of her cousin ....
DeleteThe highly-staged birthday photos (seated at tables, gazing at objects, books, etc.) from the Japanese Imperial family always make me think that being a member of that family must involve many restrictions and rules. Hopefully they are able to have fun and relax more in private.

A lovely young lady. A happy 22nd Birthday to her. This dress is very pretty. css
ReplyDeleteWishing Her Royal Highness The Princess Aiko a Very Happy Birthday
ReplyDeleteA belated 22nd birthday to Pss Aiko. How lovely my grandchild had a Birthday the same day. Nice dress BTW and nice strong color. css
ReplyDeleteHer mother is elegant and class, pity she does not pass on her beauty to her daughter. Understand she has strict protocol on how to dress, but unfortunately this ages her a lot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Besides the colors this outfit looks like girls younger than her would wear as a uniform at a school run by nuns. It’s such a pity she has to dress like this.
DeleteThe time that schools were run by nuns are longtime over. In my country I don't know any school which is still run by nuns or fathers (priests).
DeleteAnon 19:35 that’s not the point !
