The Duchess was Variety's cover star last year, but was unable to attend the gala in 2022 due to the Queen's death.

  3. The design of this dress is very odd & peculiar. The uneven neckline, one sided drop shoulder and too many slits creates an unattractive look. The dull beige colour does not help matters. The dress is also too long and touching the floor unlike the more manageable length shown on the model. The duchess is also sporting a very severe hairstyle which wouldn't be so bad except for that unappealing middle part.

    1. Yes, it almost looks like a 'do it yourself one-shoulder gown' - as the way it drapes makes it looks like the wearer just decided to pull on sleeve off the shoulder.

    9. I will represent the "other we" who want to see Meghan on this blog. As a representative of the "other we", I would like to remind the "we" of their power not to read the things they don't want to read. "We" doesn't own or operate this blog, so "we" must accept the decision to post about Meghan without complaint. The "other we" find her style refreshingly different, modern and simplisticly chic. It's a lovely change of pace from the too-often dull and expected sartorial choices made by other royal women. We, the "other we", are just as tired of seeing the "we's" continuous comments about Meghan not being a royal, what colour she is wearing, what about wanting privacy, etc., none of which are about fashion. It seems we are stuck with each other. Ironically, posts about Meghan get more engagement than almost any other posts. I doubt she is going anywhere anytime soon. My thanks to all of you members of "we" for helping to keep Meghan here!

    4. Anon 15:59 She married a prince, but she feels more 'celebrity' than royal to me. She was a 'working royal' for about a minute. I class her as 'celebrity'.

      Delete
    5. @Anon 15:59: Of course she is royal, yes. But she does not behave like a royal. Look at her posing in front of the photographers, it is perfectly performed celebrity behaviour to stop in front of the photographers, smile at them, look back over your shoulders, change your poses, let yourself shouted at by them. No royal will ever behave like this (just watch the BAFTA appearances of Catherine and William). She could of course behave like a royal if she wanted to, but what she wants is something completely different. Title is enough royalty. (GM)

      Delete
    6. She certainly has no sense on how to behave as a royal. She acts like a ‘celibrity’ or as those awful Hollywood/American movies on non existing European royalty. -Dorothe-

The neutral beige colour is perfect for her, and I like the oblique lines of the top falling off the shoulder. At first I thought it would have looked better if it was shorter - the same length as on the model - but after a few minutes, I realise that the longer length shows the crinkle splits of the hem in a interesting and pleasing way and I quite like that.

But strangely enough there are often more comments on posts about her than on posts about 'real' royalty. 6. Sally you are completely wrong. Sadly you have belived the british tabloids narrativ. They never said they wanted privacy. And they have never refused to work for the firm or support them. As their spokesperson said when the Netflix series came out:-Their statement announcing their decision to step back mentions nothing of privacy and reiterates their desire to continue their roles and public duties.

'Any suggestion otherwise speaks to a key point of this series. They are choosing to share their story, on their terms, and yet the tabloid media has created an entirely untrue narrative that permeates press coverage and public opinion. The facts are right in front of them'.

In fact the Sussex's said stepping down:-“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.

We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”

So can we please stop. Just stop!

  48. The dress is a mess with the odd bit floating around the back of the neck area, too long, and why is she on this blog? They stepped away from Royal duties how long ago? They have both said and done things that hurt the Royal family, as well as the late Queen Elizabeth. She still acts like a celebrity, when in fact she was a D-list actress in some TV program. We do not see other 'non royals featured on this blog, please leave her to the Privacy she and Henry/Harry asked for. Edwina

  49. For RH: It's easy to overlook Stephanie of Luxembourg as one of the royal women who were born noble. She doesn't have as high of a profile as the others. However, I believe when Stephanie married she was Countess Stephanie de Lannoy. - Joann

  50. @Lily Bart. As a regular contributor to this blog, it is surprising that this style appears so 'odd'. Both Princess Mary and Queen Letizia have worn this silhouette before to many positive comments. Mary's was sequined and Letizia's was navy with a rope detail.
When you look at a garment try to be dispassionate and understand what went into the construction. For instance there is a lining visible in some pictures which is why the dress does not pool on the floor as an unlined dress would. The same applies to why there seems to be too much fabric in the back. The top is also lined, perhaps for the sake of modesty.
*She married a man. He puts his trousers on one leg at a time just like any other, and has to take care of his family like every other Dad. He chose not to live at the taxpayers' expense as a prince to peasants who feel they own his soul.

  51. This post comes under the heading of "nit-picking", but I thought everyone would still be interested. This is in reference to statement released by Harry and Meghan when they announced their intention to live independent lives while working for the royal family. It was posted above by Anonymous 13:21 who posted it as it originally appeared in the press. However, at the time there was some criticism leveled at Harry and Meghan over the statement. In the last paragraph they said ".... as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty the Queen." The critics were quick to point out that one does not "collaborate" with the Queen. One serves at the Queen's pleasure. The critics further charged that the couple were trying to put themselves on the same level as the Queen. For myself, I believe the statement was written by a member of their staffs and no one caught the error before it was released to the press. Harry, having been raised about royal protocol, most likely would not have said that. I wish I could find the link where this criticism was written, but I'm pressed for time just now. A google search would probably turn it up somewhere. - Joann

    1. Whether they served or collaborated (usually with the Queen's) staff is immaterial. They were still willing to work for her. This post is about fashion not semantics. There are other blogs that cater to your need to rehash 4 year old news.

  52. WOW, SO MANY REACTIONS FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NOT CONSIDERED AS A ROYAL ANYMORE. SHE MUST FEEL MORE IMPORTANT NOW THAN SHE WAS BEFORE, DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND ME I AM NOT AGAINST HER OR ANYBODY ELSE, I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED HARRY AND MEGHAN AND I STILL DO. AS A NEUTRAL I MUST ADMIT THAT SO MANY CRITICS POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE JUST MAKE THEM MORE POPULAR THAN EVER. IT IS PUBLICITY FOR THEM. (a non British anonymous)

  53. Nothing gets as trolly, nasty and divisive as a post about Meghan. It would probably keep this blog happier and kinder to not post about her at all, unless attending a royal event, but instead to stick to working royals. Some of the comebacks on this particular post are so smart and sure and reference-based that one wonders (as several other commenters have suggested) whether Meghan herself has written them. I wouldn’t be surprised. (Grace)

    1. Right...so where is the stupid comments about not being a working royals when Helen shares outing from all the other non working royals. Has never seen that stupidity about a story about Madeleine or Zara, or Bea, or Eugenie and so on. This comment from you say all we need to know about "Grace". And please stop embarrasing yourself with conspiracy theories. Anna.

    2. Hi Anna, I seem to have upset you by sharing my observation that no posts get as much nastiness as those about Meghan. My observation is based on the reality that her posts do get - by far - the most comments, and the most nasty and finger-pointing comments. I wasn’t meaning to offend anyone but to make a suggestion on how we can get back to the nice place this used to be. Your personal critique of me does rather confirm my observation! I wish you all the best and am not sure why you’re angry at me but quite enjoyed you calling my little joke a conspiracy theory! (Grace)

  54. OMG! Is this what you learn your kids? No wonder kids continue to bully each other with these role models. Where did normal decency go? How many of you go to church on sunday and praise the lord like nothing has happend? Do you ever think about how proud he must be seeing his bullying dominion. Shocked. Just shocked.

    2. Darling, this is a fashion blog where pople share their opinions about fashion..yes it can get wild sometimes..girls have their strong opinions. But keep jesus, God, the bible and the rest in other appropriate forums (maybe in an american all girls church school) majority here are europeans having normal relationships with faith. Thank you!

    3. “St Anonymous” is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on this forum. I can’t believe how many Anonymouses are writing here and are so outraged.. or is it just one?! Never have I seen so many “Stop. Just stop” responses … although what they should stop is not clarified?!?Someone further up noted that never are the comments as poisonous as in response to Meghan posts - agree! - wouldn’t it be kinder and simpler to no longer post pics of Meghan here, Helen? - Yours kindly, Another Anonymous ;-)

  55. @19:20 Why should Helen take advice from someone who as an adult cannot does not have the comprehension to comment on an appearance at an event; cannot build a following of your own on any topic allows oneself to fall victim to second hand outrage stirred by tabloids. Someone posts are like popcorn, just filler.

    1. Quite confused by the word order and intention of this last comment (“as an adult”? “popcorn”? …) but more confused why so many of the comments in this post contain personal criticisms of fellow commenters in what used to be a kind and fun forum. Anyone else?! - MJ.

    2. MJ One hopes there are no children adding to the poor comprehension skills of some posters. The dress, and accessories are fair game. The person..no ! No one asked who she married, or if she disappointed your grandmother . The family will solve their differences without the second hand outrage. As for popcorn, it is a cheap filler with no nutrition /fashion value. as are many 'opinions.'
