  1. I like these colours on Mathilde and I especially like the way the skirt fits her and falls, even with the extra flap on the side. The whole outfit is clean and simple and I like that she has stayed away from any jewellery other than earrings. A classic outfit, perfect for an event like this.

  2. Lovely outfit except I cannot stand the huge draping on the side of the skirt. Remove that and QM looks fabulous.

    1. Personally I think that if the draping on the side is removed the outfit will be dreadfully boring. The tone being very discreet, the skirt requires some originality. So for me, it is more than welcome. Who wants a 100% dull way of dressing ? We have to go back 1st half of the 20th century to find supporters of that fashion.
I wish you courage deadeggs, times have changed. By the way a nice uneven draping is more difficult to get right than a straight hem.

  4. I know that as soon as I see an uneven hem that I’m not going to like the rest.
It’s sad to be getting old.
But I think back 50 years ago when seamstresses had to work 12 hours a day and would have lost their job if they’d done a hem that wasn’t straight.
And if they’d done baggy pants and a jacket that didn’t fit correctly, they would have been sacked on the spot.
Bring back Coco C. and Givenchy.
p.s. maybe I’ve just got a touch of seasonal depression

    1. Palazzo pants and drapings has been fashion in the old days too. Marlene Dietrich f.ex. wore palazzo pants. In the old black/white movies with Lauren Bacall & Humphrey Bogart, women wore dresses with drapings.
Today it is not a hemline that is not seamed correctly, it is done on purpose. Besides the seamstresses have to carry out what their bosses want them to do. This is exactly the same like it was 50 years ago. The only difference with the old days is that a lot of work can be done by machines and a boss cannot ask his seamstresses to work 12 hours a day. In the 70-tees seamstresses who were employed in Western Europe by a normal company with a normal contract, did not have to work 12 hours a day anymore, it was against the law. Maybe in Asia where they are still abusing men and women and even children they must work for such a long time.

I also am a Coco Chanel lover! "Dress shabbily, the remember the clothes. Dress impeccably, they remember the woman!" A great quote from C.C. Even with my more limited resources, I strive for that goal.

    5. Coco C. was a wise lady.
I love the quotes she made.
For example, "Fashion goes out of fashion, style never does".
She was also a very good and wise business woman who knew how to turn the cents into dollars.

Love the soft colours and soft material but I don't like the hanging flap on the skirt. It does not seem to add any real volume as there is a very tight seam at its upper part. Nice earrings that go very well with this kind of outfit.

  6. Cette tenue classique est jolie mais je ne peux pas dire que ce style convienne bien à la reine au niveau du rabat latéral ; de plus, le haut dans une couleur plus soutenue aurait apporté du contraste à son look !

  7. Although her outfit is grey/beige Queen Mathilde looks very good in that color. I saw a picture when she entered at Bozar in a light grey/beige coat which matched with her top and skirt. She wore the skirt already in 2020. I think she had made several clothes that year, but with the covid pandemic she did not had the opportunity to wear them often. Now she can wear them again. Her handbag is by Armani and the earrings are new I guess.
