King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain are making a 3-day state visit to Denmark at the invitation of Queen Margrethe. On November 7, King Felipe, Queen Letizia,Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Monument at The Citadel. Afterwards, they visited Copenhagen City Hall and the University of Copenhagen.
Dandara midi dress
Carolina Herrera double faced wool straight fit coat
RED VALENTINO crystal-collar crepe top
Dolce & Gabbana tweed high waisted skirt
I really like Mary's black top and tweed skirt with black sash. It's a great look. I don't see Letizia and Mary engaging with each other during this trip so far. I would think they had a lot in common being the same age and both being former non-royals. They seem kind of distant. Maybe that is a result of all the royal protocols and hopefully they are buddies behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I cannot see these two warming up to each other. Apart from the many possible personal character differences, one is a queen and the other a queen-in-waiting, and that seems to mean something within those circles.

They were really engaged with each other yesterday, you can find pictures on other websites. It is obvious they know each other well and are fond of each other. They all look great and professional today. Damsel Dragonfly
DeletePic 3 shows them laughing together - but on the whole with royals photography, we see but a few seconds of their day, in just a few photos, which probably doesn’t represent much at all of their relationship, activities, etc! - Fiona
DeleteNon sono distanti, ma una è regina e l'altra è principessa ereditaria. Forse il protocollo impone una regola.
DeleteRossella
I took another look at the pictures and the ones later in the day at the hospital and while they are together and smiling they never look at each other or make eye contact & speak. They are smiling at other people while they walk together. I still get a distant vibe rather than a warm and inviting one. It could be they are in public and a bit nervous because people are around. I'm sure behind the scenes they are more freindlier.
DeleteI agree with you Anon.
DeleteThere doesn't seem to be the warmth between Letizia and Mary that is so obvious between Mathilde and Maxima and also between Mary and Victoria.
Like yesterday upon arrival, also this coat to me seems a size too large for QL. PM looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteQueen Letizia and CP Mary look great all bundled up in beautiful coats.
ReplyDeleteQL: as usual her coat is a size or two too large. The dress being longer than the coat doesn’t look right. The handbag is appropriate for spring not for autumn.
ReplyDeleteIn Spain we wear flowers the whole year , not only in spring, our weather is not so ugly.
DeleteThe dress being longer than the coat is a Spanish tradition, if not It seems you are naked underneath. Also we wear bags like that more in autumn than in spring, we have 20 C degrees in the Mediterránea part yet.
DeleteLetizia is dressed for early spring so she must be cold. The coat swallows her which doesn’t accomplish a polished look. MR
DeleteIf you does not taking into account that the weather in Scandinavia is colder than in the south of Europe you could get cold (Picture n° 3). I bet queen Letizia does not wear tights. I like her green dress which seems to fit better on her than on the model. CP Mary on the contrary wears black opaque tights which are warmer, gloves and a tweed skirt under her coat. Maybe she secretly wears lingerie by Damart like Princess Diana did when she had to stay outside for an occasion like this one. Queen Margrethe is looking good in her 3/4 coat and dress underneath. Rose
ReplyDeleteQL perfect, brings in a little bit of Spring with her flower splashed handbag. CPM nice, but I'm not in favor of the black tights with the white coat. Wonder why both CPM and QM are both wearing black, seems a bit stark unless there's a dress code of some kind for laying the wreath? Would like to get a closer look at the earrings on both ladies.S.M.
ReplyDeleteWell, laying a wreath is mostly for remembering the dead. Wearing a solemn color kind of goes with that? In a way that makes the handbag with colorful flowers a bit strange and inappropriate.
DeleteA dress code is recommended for visiting places of worship and war memorials: classic decent clothes in darker colors, no fads, no bright colors, floral or other patterns. Recommended colors are black, gray, blue, navy, dark burgundy and complementary white. (While working on European Union projects, I and my colleagues received training from the protocol department of our ministry. That's where I got this information from) Princess Mary and Queen Margrethe are dressed very appropriately.
DeleteIt is interesting that guests from Spain take part in laying wreaths at the war memorial. Spain was officially neutral during the 2nd World War, but it is known that it cooperated closely with Nazi Germany.

Stephanie the ignorant!! After a civil war and a dictatorship people were even expeled from Spain..and Germany used their weapons in the North of Spain and killed many people.
DeleteAld
Get a book and read history!!
Also It was only 4 minutes in the day that they were there...you do not need to wear a black dress un Guernica but you can visit It...
Stephanie...Google Ángel Sanz Briz and why lots of Spaniards were killed in Germany...and try to educate yourselfe, sometimes some comments should not been allowed, It can hurt people
DeleteDress code, a nosense but what country in Europe helped the Spanish Republic when Franco entered in Spain? Nobody..Some countries could have stopped Hitler, they did nothing...dress code...more brain..and more books..
DeleteNothing to do with Spain, I wonder why they are there..we do not go with people to the deads of our wars..
DeleteWhy in the world would you want to "bring a bit of spring" when you are laying a wreath in November in Scandinavia? It's a strange choice any way you look at it.
DeleteAnd Why in the world you obligue a Spaniard to do that? bad taste from the Danish.. Spain was in a civil war, not in the European one...
DeleteAnd that nosense about "spring" is ridiculous...our weather odd under 10C..
To anon 21:27 and others from Stephanie
DeleteDear debaters, whom I (unintentionally) touched and offended with a reference from history.
I should have used a more accurate term: "General Franco's Spanish regime" (not Spain) collaborated with Nazi Germany. It is true. True, many Spaniards fought against the dictator - and many Spaniards suffered. But sorry, Franco was also Spanish, the Falangists were also Spanish. He remained in power for almost 40 years. What percentage of the nation supported him, the Spaniards know better themselves. I will not dissect the historical details here, the fact is that Franco refused direct involvement in the war at the meeting with the German dictator in Hendaye. Spain remained neutral, although División Azul = División Española de Voluntarios fought alongside the Germans on the Eastern Front. It is also true that many Spanish Republicans who emigrated to France joined the anti-Nazi resistance.
I know more about history than you think, but the need to be brief caused a communication short-circuit. No need to be offended, every nation has its heroic and dark sides.
I just concidered why Spanish royal couple visited danish world war memorial - what kind of connection it is. Maybe just beceause Rememberance Day is near.

I think it is the custom on a state visit that there are proposals made before the visit takes place. I also think, if the visiting country does not want to visit a proposition made by the inviting country (for any reason what so ever) alternative possibilities are offered, so that the visiting country can choose something else. Rose
DeleteStephanie, Franco won the civil war with the help of Germany and Italy. The Spanish Republic asked for help and nobody did It. they
Deletecould have stopped Hitler . obviously Spain was destroyed and only women were there as children were
sent to France, Russia, etc..no way for enter the WWII
He remained in power because he was a killer , I still remember the fear of the people and because USA wanted, they set Up their Basis in Spain talking with Franco
Sorry my English, I am trying to explain myself.
The Monument at the Citadel remembers Denmark's International Efforts since 1948. It is a memorial place and should be visited with respect. King and Queen of Spain paid their respect and honoured their host-country by laying a wreath. Now, if only you guys could behave respectfully.
DeleteDeux très beaux manteaux
ReplyDeleteFroufrou
Letizia's coat looks to big on her. Mary looks fantastic for this event
ReplyDeleteMary is perfection from head to toe! She also dressed for the weather. MR
DeleteMarys outfit looks beautiful, she has worn this before, very becoming.
ReplyDeleteLetizia and Mary could almost be fashion-sisters.
ReplyDeleteThe same style of coat. Letizia looks like the elder sister with hair who needs a cut and a new brighter color. Please...do it in a warmer chestnut like I used to when she was 15 years younger, I'd love to see that again.

Bored?
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't exactly oozes warmth and friendship. Looks like they want to be somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteOnce Felipe was very close to the other royal houses. Close friends with Haakon, Frederik, Willem and others. They went on vacations together. Partying together. Visited each other privately.
ReplyDeleteAfter he got married the friendships crumbled....watching these photos make you think.
And you have seen the other (also married) fellows still going on vacations together...! 😂.
DeleteYes I have. A quick google search

Mary looks great. I think her look is overall better suited for the occasion, both outside (gloves, tights...) and inside. I don't mind Letizia's coat, but something's off about the look. Maybe it's the floral handbag, the big earrings...? The dress at least fits her nicely, it's not the most flattering cut on the model. Margrethe is Margrethe, I just don't understand the need for a hat indoors unless it's a church.
ReplyDelete-Nika-
Both of them have hair too long and coats too big.
ReplyDeleteAva
The coats look nice, also the outfits. Maybe I am wrong at least I hope so. It seems to me there is a certain coolness between the two RL ? it looks like it to me. hope I am wrong. css
