Prince Christian of Denmark turned 18 years old today. The day on which Prince Christian reaches the age of majority is being celebrated, starting with a changing of the guard at Amalienborg, where Prince Christian appeared on the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace together with his family and Queen Margrethe.
Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Princess Isabella, Prince Christian, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine watched the changing of the Royal Guards at Amalienborg Palace Square from the balcony of Frederik VIII's Palace and greeted the crowd that gathered in front of the palace.
In the evening, Queen Margrethe hosts a gala dinner, at which the invited guests will reflect Prince Christian’s own generation. A month after Prince Christian’s birthday, on 14 November, a Council of State will take place for the young heir to affirm an oath to the constitution and his position as a future king.
ReplyDeleteThey do love a Birthday party in Denmark, hope he gets a banquet. The family looks lovely.
DeleteI find Vincent the most beautiful of the four children. He is going to be a very handsome young man.
DeleteAgree, Lela. Prince Vincent is the best looking of the four children. Love the second pic where he and Princess Josephine are giggling at each other from opposite ends of the balcony. crown Princess Mary’s outfit is lovely and the Queen’s is perfect for the occasion. Birthday congratulations to Prince Christian

Prince Vincent has inherited the fine danish features from this father. Frieda
DeleteCongratulations! A very handsome prince in a 3-piece suit. Love the blue cat dress CP Mary is wearing and the one sided lapel makes it perfect for her lovely broach. They all look ver happy.
ReplyDeleteLovely.. Proud parents of a handsome young man.. Bless him
ReplyDeleteHe’s a nice looking young man but his haircut does him no favors. Most important he seems to be a kind person and a fun big brother!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the haircut needs to go.
DeleteI thought we would also see Joachim & Marie, and their children coming from Washington ... Blessing to Christian of course.
ReplyDeleteI just saw them already on pictures of the gala diner when they entered the big room where the diner takes place. Rose
DeleteThey are all at the gala dinner party and looking fantastic.
Delete(Since their royal role has been diminished, they won't do balcony appearances except in very special circumstances.)

They attended. I saw them in other photos.
DeleteWhat a marvelous celebration for the DRF and the people of Denmark! Frederik and Mary pride in their son is evident as well as their joy in the young man he has become. QM looks jubilant. I love that Mary is wearing a dress in the same color as the suit she wore to Christian's christening along with the same heirloom brooch she debuted at the event.

Beautiful celebrations. Congratulations to Christian.
ReplyDeleteAlthough CP Mary is wearing a repeated dress, she looks very good in it. Princess Isabella is wearing a Zimmerman blouse of her mother. She is looking perfect in the combination with her white jacket. Prince Christian is looking great but, I find he is too young to wear a 3 pieces suit like that. A young man of 18 years old should not be dressed in a suit that is more suitable for his father. He should wear something according his young age like a navy suit with a white shirt and a beautiful silk tie in a color that creates some contrast. The rest of the family are all dressed very festive too. Rose
ReplyDeleteNo more blue suits. The royal men need to realize suits come in more colors. Good for Christian for being original.
DeleteI agree with you, Rose, about Christian's suit. i don't really like this plaid fabric on a young man.
DeleteA three-piece suit is perfectly appropriate for an eighteen-year-old young man, particularly on a day that is not only personally momentous but also a day of very public national importance. The plaid doesn’t bother me. It is subtle enough that from more than ten or fifteen feet away it probably looks solid. It is a nice alternative to the ubiquitous blue suits. Ed.
DeleteI think his plaid three piece suit in shades of brown is perfect for a young adult as he is. His style (including his hair which many have commented on unfavorably) is completely on point with his peer group of contemporary young men and women. He is a blossoming 18yo for Petes sake. Let him wear whatever he wants. He has 40, 50, 60 years or more ahead of him to get used to mandatory boring, formal blue and black suits.

A very meaningful day for Denmark today .
ReplyDeleteP. Christian (it is pronounced with the same " r" as in French) is really tall and handsome and his parents and all the family couldn't be more proud of him!
Q.Margretbe is radiant, happy and even directed the chorus at some point.
And the best is yet to come.
My warmest congratulations to P.Christian on his 18 th b.day.
Everyone looks at their best, Mary is sheer perfection and her brooch Is a lovely tribute and calls to mind her eldest son's christening.
P.Frederick and his children all look gorgeous and enjoying the well- wishers' chorus and the changing of the Guard.
Another example of the Danish 'mood', they are such warm and engaging people!
Spectacular👍
He is an adult now, by law anyway. He over towers everyone in the family. Best wishes to him for the future. css
ReplyDeleteMany Years to HRH P Christian! I very much like seeing the Prince in this suit - his grandfather, the late Prince Henrik, was fond of suits with patterns (stripes, plaids), especially when he was younger, as well as of adding color and style to his looks with interesting accessories and tailoring detail. I can’t help but think that Prince Christian is influenced by his grandfather, to whom he was close, in the styles he chooses. The brown suede monk straps he’s wearing are a great example of a choice that’s just that bit different from the ordinary.
ReplyDeleteHRH CP Mary looks lovely. The sentimental choices of this shade of blue and the Connaught brooch, mimicking what she wore at Prince Christian’s baptism, are very touching.
