Yesterday evening, Queen Sonja of Norway opened the renovated Riding House at the Royal Palace. This is adjacent to the Queen Sonja’s Art Hall in the the old royal stables. The King and Queen hosted a performance held by the Norwegian National Ballet and The King's Guard, at the Queen Sonja Art Stable. King Harald, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Astrid were present at the inauguration ceremony.

The Riding House was built by King Haakon and Queen Maud in the period 1908–1911. For many years the hall were affected by decay, but after renovation work over several years, the building has now been made to look almost exactly as it appeared over 100 years ago.

  2. Quel grand plaisir de revoir Mette-Marit ; beaucoup de goût de la part de la reine Sonja qui nous montre une tenue après avoir harmonisé le violet de son écharpe avec sa jupe ainsi qu'avec quelques motifs de sa tunique !

  3. Great seeing MM looking so well. Queen Sonja looks beautiful in her outfit--the jacket is so elegant. I'm not sold on MM's look--it is very casual looking when compared to QS.

    1. In fact, Queen Sonja celebrated her 86th birthday this year.
She has always been able to pull off strong coloured robes and attire whilst retaining style and good taste.
Before her marriage, she studied dressmaking and tailoring at a professional finishing school in Switzerland (École Professionnelle des Jeunes Filles) No doubt this has helped her throughout her life as Queen of Norway.

  12. Sonja is such a lovely woman. It’s a joy to see her beautiful, natural surgery-free face. She never makes me wince like too many others. The deep red violet color looks great on her.

    1. Agree! She looks much more beautiful aging naturally. The cosmetic surgery and whatnot of some other royal ladies just makes them look fake and older than they are.

    2. Are you sure she did not plastic surgery ? I've always heard she did it a long time ago. Rose

    3. Rose as a Norwegian I can confirm Sonja has never done plastic surgery. She has never used fillers or botox either.

  13. Elegance and beauty define the Queen. The outfit she is wearing reflects her wonderful taste. MM's outfit suits her, and so nice to see her returning from recuperation from the lung disease. It has to be tough for her, and I admire her strength and courageous attitude to work through the difficult issues her malady brings to her.
