Today, on October 15, 2023, Danish Prince Christian celebrates his 18th birthday and thus comes of age. Queen Margrethe held a gala dinner at Christianborg Palace on the occasion of Prince Christian’s 18th birthday.
Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, Countess Athena, Count Henrik, Count Felix and Princess Benedikte were present at the gala dinner.
Royal guests from Europe, namely, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Princess Elisabeth, Princess Amalia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Marie-Chantal, Prince Gustav and Princess Carina attended the gala dinner.
Crown Princess Victoria and Crown Princess Mette-Marit is Christian’s godmother, and Crown Prince Haakon, Prince Joachim and Crown Prince Pavlos is Christian’s godfather.
Happy Birthday P. Christian!! They all look beautiful and would you get a load of P. Josephine!! Why she's all grown up and beautiful!! So much fun to see that little family growing up!!
ReplyDeletei love Dannish birthdays! The future King and Queens look amazing!
DeleteTo Missy, Elisabeth and Amalia are Crown princesses. Christian, Ingrid Alexandra and Estelle are second crown prince and princesses.
DeleteBeautyful celebration, my eyes are particularly attracted towards the younger generation, and hence the young girls since they are in the majority. A quick observation leads me to think that Ingrid Alexandra"s dress doesn't really look age appropriate. Christian"s sisters look fantastic (Isabella & Josephine). Quite pleased to see Marie, Joachim and their family. Amalia & Elisabeth are very traditionally dressed, maybe it is the best for them.
ReplyDeleteScandinavian Royals they never invite the British or Spanish for their events. wonder why...
Deletem
Good eye! Ingrid Alexandra is very keen on sustainable fashion. She shopped her mother’s wardrobe (as she did for her own 18th birthday gala) and the pale blue gown sadly just didn’t work on her as we would hope. It needed to be tailored to her proportions and the lace draped over her left shoulder was unhelpful. I appreciate her dedication to sustainable fashion but the end result should still enhance its wearer.
DeleteFully agree about Isabella and Josephine - they both look fantastic. I especially like Josephine´s entire look which is both cute for her first big gala outing and very chic. Also agree about Amalia who looks very classy.
DeleteAs for the other three crown princesses (Estelle, Elisabeth, Ingrid), I wish they had chosen stronger colours for their respective dresses. They all look so pale. I like Estelle´s dress as such and since she is the youngest, I guess it´s fine. Ingrid´s dress is nice too and totally age-appropriate in my view, but the shawl is superfluous and her hair could be styled younger. Elisabeth´s dress maybe has the most "edge", but unfortunately, I don´t think it´s suits her at all. The nude colour is awful on her, and the skirt is weirdly boxy relative to the narrow top. Maybe a dark necklace would have balanced out the bulk of the skirt and the lack of colour in her dress.
6:57 is not true. This was a heirs party. Lenore was obviously busy with her military service. Just like Christian was busy with school when Ingrid celebrated her 18th birthday.
DeleteAnd please Kate and William are probably too high and mighty to participate(snarky). They have never ever been at an event like this with the other royals' houses. At this event, the king couldn't send Sophie and Edward.
A very happy 18th birthday to Prince Christian of Denmark. The RL looks lovely. The Q today looked so happy. Nice that so many family's member had been there. From the guest's many of them chose pastel colors for their gowns. Nice to see so many Royals there. css
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see all these royals in their evening gowns, jewels and tiaras! I have to admit I’m not fond of one shoulder gowns, so several of these are not to my taste, but the wearers still look beautiful. HRH the Duchess of Brabant’s dress is a highlight for me - she seems to be developing a somewhat minimalist style that really suits her.
ReplyDeleteHM Q Margrethe’s dress is great on her - gorgeous color and the pretty asymmetric side detail elevates the look.
Anya
Absolutely splendid!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all the young royals, cousins and future peer queens who are P.Christian's contemporaries. There were lots of other young people from across Denmark who also attended, which is exactly how it should be for a young person's coming of age birthday party.
CPs Frederik and Mary and Q.Margarethe have every reason to be proud of this young man. His first official speech was nervously delivered (understandably, of course) but so loving and charming and full of confidence. Loved how he mentioned his parents and siblings individually. This event has to be one of my favourites for this year.

Fantastic photos. Great to see the next generation suddenly all grownup. Princess Estelle is a dream, Princess Ingrid Alexandra is stunning, the Princess of Orange looks totally regal, Princess Elisabeth and Princess Isabella so grown up. How can Princess Josephine look so grown up? The Queen’s gorgeous apricot coloured dress is my favourite out of some terrific outfits
ReplyDeleteAnnieM
DeleteWonderful to see a tiara event with all the young heirs . The birthday boy looks very distinguished in his white tie and tails. CP Elisabeth is a stunning beauty. CP Amalia and Ingrid Alexandra look very good in their evening wear and tiaras. Amelia's dress is very becoming. Ingrid Alexandra's tiara is a new one to me. Estelle looks charming. I don't like the band of embroidery(?) across Mette Marit´s dress and I think Princess Marie's pink dress has too many Barbie vibes.
ReplyDeleteJosephine’s poise is fantastic. I do love the smiles of the young people, over and above all else fashion. I note that Ingrid Alexandra and now Christian have their Elephant Orders; and I do love a Royal Danish elephant event! - AnneLise
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gowns and hairdos all over! They all look stunning! I could not name a favourite.
ReplyDeleteAll the ladies look lovely especially CP Ingrid Alexandra. My favorite is Princess Estelle…she looks so thrilled to be there!
ReplyDeleteOn other photos the stones look like amethyst, so beautiful! anna e.
DeleteHappy Birthday to HRH Prince Christian.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable! That’s a wonderful photo of the future Sovereigns. How time flies. One remembers: when all their parents got married; when the new princes & princesses were born & baptized; when they started school and now this wonderful time of reaching the age of majority. They have grown up perfectly well. Thanks to Almighty God for good success.
@ Karen, Leonor's birthday it's 31 October.
DeleteSort of reminds me of the Cinderella ball to introduce the prince to all the fair young marriageable maidens in the land. It seems those invited were all the future queens of Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium. But Lenore of Spain was not there.
ReplyDeleteError: I mean Norway not Finland.
DeleteFinland??
DeleteLeonor will have her 18 th birthday on October 30 but she will have a private party .
DeleteShe will have a lot of activities at that time meanwhile she is in doing her army training
For the younger ladies Ingrid Alexandra's dress is unfortunate, but her tiara is divine. I don't care for Josephine's pants outfit and for some reason Isabella never looks elegant at formal events.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great color on Amalia, but I wish she would break away from cape dresses. This one does her no favors even though everything else-hair, makeup and tiara are perfect.
Elisabeth and Estelle for the indisputed win.Estelle's dress is perfection, and wow what an elegant stylish young woman the Duchess of Brabant has become! Those opera gloves set of her champagne gold evening gown to perfection.
For the record, if any of the young royals see this, as well you may given the omnipresence of the internet also in your lives, you all look absolutely stunning. Ignore the fashion commenters who are ranking you or saying you or your mother is ”a miss” when literally none of us could dress nearly as sparkly as any of you, nor probably face the thousands of flashbulbs as beautifully as you have! Josephine - your pant suit is divine. Isabella - you always look stunning and your smile and confidence are brilliant - your outfit tonight was smashing. Amalia, your outfit is fantastically regal. Ingrid Alexander, that dress styling and colour are absolutely fantastic on you. All of you amaze us in the public life you lead, the way you carry yourselves, your individual beauty. - AnneLise
DeleteAgree on yr comment about Amalia. Capes make her big. Recently (opening Dutch parliament)she wore a dark red long dress that was in line with her figure. That really looked very good on her.
DeleteOn the contrary I think Isabella looks great; she is dressed in a trendy flaterring dress with accompanying shawl, the fabric looks quite nice, together with nice earrings, she also seems to like a minimalist style. The same applies to Josephine.
Delete@AnneLise ..on point.
Delete@AnneLise; Well done!!! You said it beautifully, and very correctly.
Delete- Anon 9:13
AnneLise 👏👏👏
DeleteThe only thing I think should be commented is that Princess Ingrid Alexandra seemed to wear the Order of the Elephant on her skin. I don’t think this is according to protocol - it should be worn on clothes, so her dress should have had the bare shoulder to the other side. Other than that they all look amazing and very comfortable!
DeleteYeah, because we have never seen a princess use a royal order on her bare skin before. Strangly enough you didn't mention Princess Elisabeth? She also has her sash on bare skin, and also had it when IA celebrated her18th birthday. And so has many before her had including Madeleine, Victoria, Maxima, Tatiana, Mathilde, Sofia, Silvia and others done before them. Even Queen Elisabeth did wear sash on her bare skin. Some rules are made to be broken. Can't we just stop about archaic rules? Newsflash they also wear open toe shoes at weddings ;) https://i0.wp.com/www.thecourtjeweller.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/2022-0120-01-madeleine02.jpg?w=1200&ssl=1 https://people.com/thmb/UazYplpgt3NPwdqi7IG7v2OIoOE=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(665x0:667x2):format(webp)/gettyimages-1080322130-2000-067f662f9adb4f719751e84817c01e1f.jpg

I didn’t mean orders in general. I don’t know how Princess Elisabeth’s Belgium order should be worn (different rules for different orders), but the Order of the Elephant should not be worn on bare skin.
DeleteAll the archaic rules say a order shouldn't be worn on bare skin. See the word archaic, and these rules has been broken for a century. Can't we stop with this nonsense rules? https://i.pinimg.com/564x/95/f0/03/95f003ef34f7b68298886cf55cd69f3d.jpg

very lovely born princess! Would be nice to see a better photo of her.
DeleteHappy birthday to HRH Prince Christian!! What a sparkly birthday bash indeed. I love seeing all of the future heirs with their country’s sashes (orders),they have all grown up so much. Starting off with the Danish royals I love how all of the main family was in attendance to celebrate. Princesses Isabella and Josephine looked lovely , especially Isabella those earrings and scarf are nice touches. Princess Marie was one of the best dressed I lolve her pink gown.
ReplyDeleteNorway: Im glad to see Crown Princess Mette Marit was able to attend, but I must say her look tonight is a big miss. Princess Ingrid Alexandra on the other hand looked very beautiful. Her gown, hair and tiara are absolute perfection.
Belgium: Princess Elisabeth is such a natural beauty. Her dress was plain but so loved her hair with the Wolfers tiara.
Netherlands: Princess Amalia looked gorgeous at the gala. I like how she is exploring different looks and tiaras. That purple shade is definitely her color. Best dressed of the night for sure.
Sweden: Both Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Estelle looked beautiful their dresses even match a little.
The last picture of the future monarchs makes me emotional. Definitely girls will run the world!!!
Don't know what it is but the last last photo says so much to me.
DeleteOne King with four Queens ;-))
DeleteIt is good to see all the lovely young royals all the colours and styles of their dresses. I particularly like Estelle's dress. Queen Margrethe has chosen well with her dress.(Tara)
ReplyDeleteIngrid did it again borrowing from MM closet. MM used this dress under Charlene and Alberts wedding in 2011. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/0e/c1/71/0ec17131e6ff66a79701097203b5d9c8.jpg
ReplyDeleteHere is a fun photo of MM and Mary showing they went for the same kind of dresses. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DGKO5qmXkAA5Z-P?format=jpg&name=small
They all look great. A lot of great dresses and jewels. MM cameo bracelet that she borrowed from Ingrid was a fun twist.
WOW what a fantastic event and especially the younger generation. I really love to just watch and observe and feel no need to give any "negative" comments about anyone. What a great day it must have been.
ReplyDeleteI do have a question, if anyone can please give me an answer: Hypothetical speaking - should a future king of one country and a future queen of another country fall in love and decide to marry.... will they both still keep their titles and become king/queen of their respective countries or will one of them have to give up his/her title?
...or their countries will marry too? ;-)
Delete(To be honest: I ask myself the same question!)
One has to give up their throne.
DeleteHere's the link to Prince Christian's speech with English subtitles.
ReplyDeleteEmotional speech and he is understandably nervous.
See how Mum Mary is proud of her son!
https//youtu.be/WSFnEQzCFQM?si=9vBv4 LSAXrotYJ/5b
Thanks P. the original for the link.
DeleteViewed the video. A great speech by an 18 year old future king.
DeleteHow did Princess Mary hold back the tears?
This is not the whole speech. It is the 2nd half of his speech. He said a lot more before this (thanking his grandmother, amongst other things.)
Delete- Anon 9:13
@ Anon 9;13
DeleteYes, I know .
In one half, P. Christian was so nervous that he couldn't t find the the sheets of paper!
You see, I indicated the link to the part with the English subtitles as the other one was only in Danish.
If you understand Danish is good to see the half only in the original language.
I did and it was great 👍
@ Deadeggs
DeleteYes, a speech by an already mature young man.
At some point , Mary is seen holding back years and keep on smiling while looking at her handsome son with all her love.
It's splendid when one can count on the mutual love and support among members of the same family.
Christian is aware of the responsabilities awaiting him and is well preparing for the job.
Touching to see how this young man loves his country.
@ Deadeggs 1610/23 at 17: 20
DeleteMy pleasure!
Here's s another link to P.Frederick heartfelt speech to his son Christian.
https://youtu.be/wvw7Bq3QCQE?si=0W3qMPpVn0HxV0Nn
Splendid.
What a fabulous array of young
ReplyDeletefuture monarchs!
P. Estelle is so nice and pretty, still a little girl among grown- up monarchs in waiting.
P. Amalia is incredibly beautiful , really majestic and queenly.
Her rich purple gown suits her beautifully and the same shade was chosen by P. Isabella but her gown has a quite modern party- like vibe.
P. Esabeth' s gown looks almost in a champagne shade in a pic, whereas it looks pearl gray in the other one, presumably due to the lights and the pic angle.
P. Ingrid- Alexandra has a very sweet look in her eyes, her gown is in the same aqua green shade as her gorgeous mother.
P. Mary opted for a classic , understated and yet sophisticated elegance.
Right, Christian had to enjoy being centre stage.
The Queen is just stunning , her classic coral gown is a work of art.
A pleasure to see P.Joachim and his family again!
P. Marie' s snug gown in a delicate rose shade is so flattering and charming on her.
P. Henrik and P.Athena have grown up, they look beautiful!
All the other ladies are gorgeous and all the gentlemen are so elegant and perfectly attired for the occasion.
I see some don't like MM dress. I find it very regal. In my eyes everyone looks wonderful. S
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know why Prof Donaldsson and his wife weren't present?
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't but it could be because of his health and not able to do such a long and demanding trip from Australia.
DeleteI was hoping to see him there with his daughter and gandson.
He is 82 years old.
I was wondering whether Q.Margarethe had extended an invitation to Christian's Australian family and cousins. If she did (I personally don't think she would have omitted them, especially those who are close to him), I wonder if any of them attended.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Crown Princess Marys father didn’t attend due to health reasons. Her sister though, who were one of Prince Christians Godparents did attend. It seems, it was only his Godparents that were invited, other than the royals.
DeleteIt was nice to see all the young princesses. Estelle has such a wonderful confidence and her gown was pretty. Amalia looked fantastic and she seems so much more confident. Elisabeth was perfect and the gloves were a great touch. Ingrid is looked beautiful and her tiara is lovely - Louise
ReplyDeleteOh my oh my. Did you notice that Princess Isabella, first daughter of Princess Mary, appears to be wearing a hairclip (good morning Princess Victoria).
ReplyDeleteThere is a glimpse of it in photo N°14.
There is a good photo of it on another royal site.
It seems to have lots of sparkle to it. I doubt that it would be diamonds but
it is certainly made up of some sort of gem.
Isabella was wearing one of Mary's diamond hair clips. And she is also wearing Mary's amethyst drop earrings--the amethyst stones dangle from a long diamond chain. Must be fabulous to be able to play in Mary's jewelry box! Janet
DeleteI don't understand @Janet, it was only about a week ago a lot of bloggers gave Princess Victoria a rough time because she wore a hair clip ?????
DeleteHappy Birthday to HRH Prince Christian!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Royals all around - wehre is Prince George?
Congrats to Christian a smart looking young man. But all these medals/decorations... for what?
DeleteEveryone looks lovely, men and women alike. Princess Elisabeth is the winner. She has natural dignity and is the most poised young woman.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Princess Elisabeth, so very elegant and chique. And only a tiara, less is more. Amalia too much jewelry
DeleteA very fun and special occasion… can see the party/live band on Instagram!
ReplyDeletePrincess Amalia looked great. I think this blue suits her prefect. It is definitely her color. I think she will still emerge as one of the most fashionable princesses of Europe
ReplyDeleteWith a lot of these young ladies, they are figuring things out, style-wise.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of that Essentiel Antwerp dress that Amalia is wearing-I'd wear it myself! I love that she tries different things and I prefer this to the red gown she wore in Jordan.
Elisabeth is lovely here but I feel a necklace would have elevated the look. I am a huge fan of long gloves coming back into style so that's a win.
Ingrid Alexandra, I'm not sure that lace detail was necessary. I love that she is shopping her mam's closet because there are so many nice dresses that she can put her own spin on.
Isabella knocked it out of the park. Rich colour, fun twist with the hair ornament. Perfect when you are not of tiara age but going to an event. She, along with Eloise van Orange, is one of my personal favourites to watch.
Josephine turned it out. That is impeccable styling-hair, jewelry, jumpsuit. A fun way to do the cape!
Estelle and Athena are age appropriate but with some flair.
I know Leonor is busy with her military training and only gets limited days off. Who I would have loved to see based on family stuff? Carolina and Chiara. I know the families are close and personally I would love to see them at a white tie event.
Marie-Chantal breaking out the big gun of Queen Sophie's tiara was a very pleasant surprise. Always a joy to see Benedikte and Anne-Marie! Mette-Marit, not a fan of the portion over the shoulders but just a minor quibble as her even being there is nice, with all her medical stuff.
Marie's dress would be elevated with a thicker belt, and I also don't like the sweetheart underportion. But love the fabric itself and the one shoulder!
I love your assessment and agree with everything you said. Well done!
DeletePeople forget that these are young people who are emerging young adults, and who are exploring/experimenting with their style options. They are in perfect sync with their level of contemporary teenagers ideas of how to dress and it's lovely to see.
- Anon 9:13
Ingrid Alexandra è di una gran bellezza. E per Josephine ed Estelle hanno scelto outfit troppo “da grande”
ReplyDeleteRossella
Anche Amalia
DeleteWhile not a personal fan of the one-shoulder look, the women wearing these garments all looked lovely. I was put off a little by seeing a photo of Marie's open toed shoes, they looked sort of like a sandal (photo not on this web blog/could not see the entire shoe). Otherwise she and her daughter were as lovely as the rest of the ladies. Honest question: What are all the medals from that Christian is wearing? Jackie
ReplyDeleteThe medals HRH P Christian wore are for various milestone birthdays of Q Margrethe and the late Prince Henrik, their Golden wedding anniversary, the Queen’s Jubilees (Ruby & Golden), and P Henrik’s Memorial.
DeleteAnya
They're mostly commemorative medals from anniversaries etc. and given to all participants, and then there are the two orders he received for his birthday, the Order of the Elephant from his grandmother and the one given to him by the king of Norway./Grace
DeleteCP Mary looked sensational, love the rewear and slight alteration to this gown as opposed to the last time she wore it. Josephine’s outfit looked superb. Amalia's jewels looked outstanding, she has such self assurance.
ReplyDeleteI liked everyone’s appearance, except the one of Mette Marit. That embroidered piece of fabric around her shoulders does her no favors. I would have preferred that thing to be in a V shape down her bust to lessen the impact of her rather large shiny round bossom.
