King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands are making a three-day state visit to the Republic of South Africa. On October 20, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima arrived in Cape Town on the 3rd day of their state visit to South Africa. The King and Queen were welcomed by Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and his wife Tracy Winde at Leeuwenhof Residence in Cape Town.
Natan Dress
I love this dress. Bright and fresh. Perfect for Spring time in S.Africa.
ReplyDeleteMax looks lovely; King WA with masses of creases on an ill fitting jacket, not so much.

I agree with your comments on Maxima: she looks fantastic. Willem-Alexander is looking great to. I think the suit fits him well. I only see see creases at the back which is from sitting I think. This looks normal to me. Damsel Dragonfly
DeleteI agree on your comment, yes poor W-A regarding creases, but I don't think his suit is ill fitting. His wife cares too much for herself and not for him, if I dare say. I would gladly wear her dress.
DeleteI agree on Maxima’s dress - loved it the first time and again looks great here, very elegant yet bright and colourful. I think the King has lost some weight…making his suit jackets look boxy and a bit shapeless, his trousers also seem a bit long. Can’t please us all haha! Really like this couple and always nice to see them on engagements together. JJ
DeleteShe looks fabulous from head to toe. To me this dress cries out for a belt, but it looks fine on Maxima the way it is. S.M.
ReplyDeleteI know its Natan but I like it. Even the more flared skirt would of been nice.
ReplyDeleteWould have
DeleteMaxima has become an ambassador for the Natan fashion house, it seems. I don't understand why she wears hats in this climate and weather. (recently on your blog you had photos of Sophie - the Duchess of Edinburgh, visiting Africa, she was not wearing a hat). I don't like any of her hats.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Wearing a hat for any occasion is a woman's style prerogative. It doesn't have to be weather or climate related. Sophie is not a vivacious Queen. In fact she is quite the opposite.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Sophie’s visit was very low level protocol, if any. There are work visits, official visits and then there are State Visits. Sophie is not a chief of State. She can’t do State Visits. On state visits, the Dutch queen is hatted. I think Máxima’s hat here looks great and I always love this dress on her.
DeleteTo Anon 18:52 and 18:57
DeleteI don't think it's part of the protocol. Even Princess Kate didn't wear a hat when meeting people on a trip to Australia or Jamaica.
I have a different opinion than you maybe because I have never liked hats - resembling a turban. They remind me too much of the towel turban I put on when I get out of the shower. Hats seem more appropriate to wear with a coat or with a coat dress.
Stephanie
@Stephanie: "Princess Kate" was not on a State visit to Australia or Jamaica. She was on 'official visits' by request of her own government, not by invitation of the host country. It is her choice whether to or not wear a hat on such visits. Only when she becomes Queen consort will she be invited on State visits - and then the protocol will require her to wear a hat or head cover.
Delete- Anon 9:13
For Anon 16:06
DeleteWell, Kate's hats are always chic and never look like a red towel turban.
For anon 22:17
DeleteYou may think that Kates hats are chic and Maxima's look like towel turbans. Plenty of others think that Kates hats look like elaborately decorated cakes from a Paris bakery sitting on her head. So just like you, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
The Queen is perfection today! MR
ReplyDeletetotally agree
DeleteIls sont tous les deux magnifiques. Un très beau couple de même grandeur, ce qui ajoute à la prestance, et qui semblent s'aimer profondément. Lorraine-Rose.
ReplyDeleteNice dress in fresh colours !!
ReplyDeletePerchè WA ha sempre una SETTE nei calzoni?
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderfull dress, that doesnot need anything else.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless the red accessories are good ( although I would have chosen a smaller handbag),
Mabel
I agree, the handbag is too large. Otherwise a perfect look. MR
DeleteBeautiful dress. I wish she wouldn't wear the hat. It is very old-fashioned and too "heavy" for the dress.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the hat/s are there to help with hair extensions etc.
DeleteJust a thought.
I have always loved this dress, so pretty! And I love the hat and shoes!! Perfection!!
ReplyDeleteAnother great outfit. Lovely dress and the hat and accessories are perfect. Queen Maxima’s is excelling herself on this trip so far (excluding the mushroom on the shoulder of her dress yesterday!)

Maybe Queen Maxima should do some shopping whilst in South Africa.
ReplyDeleteThe country has over a dozen highly talented, youngish designers whose designs/work incorporates the combination of environmental and cultural sustainability.
One of these talented designers is Terrence Bray who has done a lot of work for Princess Charlene of Monaco.
Overall their work seems to be “marginal chic” and is right up Maxima’s street.
Some of their work comes up in the Paris fashion week but their main presentation is at the South African fashion week.
Johannesburg is often named as the fashion capital of South Africa.
These youngish designers put out a good mix of both male and female fashion.
It would have been nice if Maxima had worn an ensemble by one of these designers. Maybe next time or maybe she’ll open up her shopping bag when she gets home and present us with a “wow”.
I'd like to "hurray" your comment deadeggs. As a South African, I would love to see our extremely talented designers featured more often
DeleteDress looks really great! I don't like this type of a hat, though jointly seems really well.
ReplyDeleteMaxima looks wonderful. I wouldn’t like that hat on a hat stand but it looks marvellous on her, particularly the colour, and with the hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very lovely dress. Maxima wears it well. css
ReplyDeleteCette robe me met du soleil dans ma journée en ce temps pluvieux et venteux
ReplyDeleteFroufrou
This dress looks beautiful, excellent fit. Love the colors and fabric design. The hat looks good, not a fan of the earrings.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks extremely stylish. Great color combinations. Usually I detest NATAN and wish they would go out of business, but this dress breaks the mold. Maxima wears it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteFor her age the Queen looks absolutely beautiful💖, the hat, hand bag and her gorgeous dress is just perfect👌
ReplyDeleteWhat a magnificent dress and she is looking so well in it. She is carrying her years well. Looking forward to any evening dresses she will wear on this trip.
ReplyDeleteMax looks gorgeous here! Love the dress--very feminine and fits so well. Love her choice of red accessories--very pretty. I would have chosen a smaller purse--a smaller clutch. The simple ponytail is perfect for her hat and looks so neat and polished.
ReplyDeleteJanet
I' d say yes to this dress design and dunno to its garish print.
ReplyDeleteBut this is Maxima's trademark, garish being her signature most of times.
The King is flawless.
I love the splendid nature and landscapes in Soth Africa.
Mesmerizing.

ReplyDeleteWell they arrived, with what and for what exactly? Their ancestors messed up our country, killed thousands if not millions of our ancestors, traded them fo slavery, raped them women, chained them and made money for them for years. Then they come into this country like saints like they have sympathy for anything , I mean is the moral in all this
