On October 27, Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko visited Kagoshima prefecture to show their solidarity and support for disabled sports athletes. The Crown Prince couple visited the Isa City Child Development Support Centre, a facility focused on supporting the growth and development of infants and young children.
The royal couple’s visit was made on the occasion of the upcoming special national sports tournament for individuals with disabilities that will be held from October 28. Their visit to Kagoshima ended with their attendance at the tournament’s opening ceremony, followed by a basketball game in Aira City.
C'est un régal que de voir le couple princier vêtu décontracté -sans oublier les perles- au cours de cette visite qu'ils ont eu l'air de beaucoup apprécier !
ReplyDeleteFirst thought, they are not wearing masks, like many other Japanese royals at different events. Nice to see their faces, though wonder what the Prince would look like today, without the hair dye and a good hair cut. Edwina
ReplyDeleteFunny you say that! I have wondered the same thing. He was almost completely grey with a black moustache before he started dying his hair. Now his moustache is grey, so if I has to guess, I would think his hair is grey/white. He keeps someone very busy making sure is roots are covered. He and the Emperor have what we think are unflattering haircuts. It must be fashionable in Japan. Like with everything else that would be on the "modern" end of the spectrum for this family, their hair is very dated.
DeleteDear @Golightly, you seem to think that our western way of interpreting "modern" vs "dated" has an overall worldwide validity. This is simply not the case, so it would be nice to reflect on - and give more respect for the diversity of cultural concepts and preferences. I don't like this hairdo either - but to call it "dated" is just beside the point. (GM)
Delete@GM It is not my way of interpreting anything. It is one of the duties of the Imperial Household Agency. The IHA last decided to "modernize" post war for ease of dress and economy, carrying on the trend that developed during wartimes, and to signal to the world that Japan had become more worldly. Japan was Illustrating that they were now more progressive and supportive of the western world. The Imperial Family does not have the freedom to deviate from the IHA's decisions. That is the reason the women's wear has such a heavy mid-century flavor to it. The IHA is made up of entirely men, if that wasn't clear before. When I say "modern", that is meaning the Imperial Family's version of modern. That is a fair statement. Their traditional dress has nothing to do with western wear or hair styles. What they wear on a daily basis is approved attire by a group of old men. It has nothing to do with any of them personally.
DeleteCPss Kiko's jacket and pearls are on point. Both of them have wonderful, expressive faces. It must be wonderful to participate in an events where th RF are so engaged and animated.
ReplyDeleteI have to say these photos have made me rethink my opinion of the Crown Prince--I previously felt he had seemed to lack warmth. But these photos are so engaging and he seems so genuine and happy to be with the children in particular. The Crown Princess is as always beautiful, beautifully dressed, and she exudes an air of sweetness and kindness. Truly lovely photos!

Nice to see them again. I like the dress and jacket but a pop of color would have been great. So nice to see no Masks. css
ReplyDeleteI very much approve of and appreciate Princess Koko’s “hat” in the first snapshot.
