Infanta Sofía of Spain departed from Madrid to attend the UWC Atlantic College in Wales. King Felipe and Queen Letizia bid farewell to their daughter, Infanta Sofia, as she headed off to UWC Atlantic College. The royal family were photographed outside their residence, Zarzuela Palace, as Sofia prepared to travel to the airport to fly to the UK.

Brave parents, all of a sudden with no children at home. May they all do well.

    1. am emotional too😭 we have seen their little girls grow up on this blog over the years , from their little cute dresses, now dressed like a teenager ready to find her place in the world 😭

@Missy - I’m right there with you - teary-eyed too. The King and Queen must be feeling a bit bereft after waving both of their daughters into the next phases of their lives. Royals they may be, but they’re still a mom and dad like any others and this has to be so hard for them.

I wish her a good stay in Wales and nice study results. I love her cargo pants and her flannel shirt, which is becoming almost like a uniform for the girls and boys of her age category. Rose

  4. Toujours aussi charmante Sofia qui va au Pays de Galles pour marcher sur les traces de Leonor ; j'adore les images où nous voyons le magnifique labrador en train de se faire câliner avant le départ pour l'aéroport !

  5. The years fly by! We've watched the Spanish princesses since they were toddlers. Now they are embarking on life-changing challenges. Sofia is almost as tall as her father and favors him too. She and her parents are dressed casually and all look wonderful. I love how Sofia's shirt and socks match! Good luck to her at Hogwarts :-)

  6. It’s an occasion that hurts. It’s when you have to let your baby/s leave the nest. A new family life starts.
A great environmental change for Sofia. Wales and Madrid have nothing in common, weather wise.
My best wishes to her with her studies.

    1. Absolutely agree with you. King Felipe and Queen Letizia are now empty nesters but, with all their regular responsibilities, maybe don't quite get the feeling of freedom that the rest of us enjoy

Sorry @ Annie M., hope it is just me but I do not fully make out what you mean by the feeling of freedom the rest of us enjoy.
      Why the we subject again?
That must be your personal perception, not other parents'.
Not all parents live their children' s departures to new destinatons and their new lives with a sense of freedom...
If you consider that I am a Globetrotter myself due to my job and I have always encouraged my son to see the world outside and live his own life, this does not mean in the least that I do not miss him when I get back home and he' s not there anymore.
Of course, the Royal Couple has a very busy schedule to fulfil but their daughters will always top the list of their priorities and I am sure they feel kinda of alone and bereft.

Wishing all 4 the best in this new phase, may all be happy.
I like the king and queen's outfit, maybe a sign in getting too old for the new trends? 🤔

Anonymous Luna, no, I think it' s quite the opposite.
This is no official engagement, they
seem to be waiting for their daughter to be driven to the airport.
They all seem to be outside one of the palace back doors.
The King & Queen are wearing cool casual chic outfits .

I have mixed feelings, as a mother and as a student myself... far back in time.
I perfectly understand Sofia's parents, their emotions, fears, hopes for both their daughters.
I also understand Sofia, she's righteously thrilled and eager to write a new chapter in her life book.
All the best for you, Infanta Sofia, don't ever lose a single moment of your new life, enjoy it fully, all your experiences will be so precious to you in the future!
Wonderful girl and very proud parents...and what a breathtaking Welsh landscape, love it👍

  10. Strange, but apart from not sleeping for a couple of night, I also felt very guilty. Of what ?? I don't know.
My son went off with a backpack to do a round the world tour.
Two years later he returned and he wasn't a baby any more.
I had in front of me a young, mature man that I was proud of.
Happy ending. The guilt was replaced with pride.
