On August 21, 2023, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska were received by Queen Margrethe II, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary in the Hall of Knights at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska are making a working visit to Denmark.
Prada Polka-Dot Pleated Dress
Ah, CP Mary wins in the style stakes today. Madame Zelenska's outfit just not as sharp as the trouser suits of the last couple of days. Delighted to see that President Zelensky did the Queen the courtesy of wearing a smart shirt, still in his military green. Queen Margrethe looks well.
ReplyDeleteMary looks spot on.The Q looks lovely as well and so does Mrs Zelensky. This Olive drab, outfit must be in for the President of the Ukraine?. First was Norway, Sweden now Denmark, I read the visit to the Netherlands is next. He must need to secure more F-15's and other weapons. Noone wins in war. The cost of human life and money is enormous css.
ReplyDeleteDavid against Goliath is a thing.
DeleteThe rest of Europe should not get involved, this can only get worse, Russia is a nuclear country with a crazy leader
DeleteZelensky was already in the Netherlands and it was confirmed by the PM that he got F16's not F15. Royal family not involved cause In the Netherlands the king does not have any formal military position
DeleteThe Danish Royals look great. Not sure why Ukrainians are doing a Royal tour.(Tara)
ReplyDeleteFunny i wonder the same here!! What is the purpose of their visit? Looking at the outfits of Madame, hard to think they are in difficult time of war ….
DeleteLR
Denmark and the Netherlands are providing F15s Fighter jets, I assume it’s a thank you gesture.
DeleteRussia attacked Ukraine.
DeleteThey are doing political tours in Scandinavia. Out of respect for them and Ukraine the highest positions in the countries, i.e the royals, also meet them.
DeleteSignal the support they have.
Ukraine is trying to get Europe to support their war against Russia. While most countries are cautious not to escalate the war, some have offered military aircrafts
DeleteMadame Zelenska was doing great, fashion wise in this Nordic tot, but i find this outfit not becoming, makes her look heavier, although the color combination is classy and perfect for the meeting, and over more como coordinated with P Mary.
ReplyDeleteLuna
On a different note, i got tears in my eyes with the painting, so sad, families been torn apart. I know this is not a blog for political discussions, but really hope this conflict will end soon.
ReplyDeleteSlava Ukraini! but then again I also feel for all the untold/unknown Russian stories, they don't have it any better.
Thank you for allowing me this off fashion comment
Luna
You’re right Luna. Thoughts to the victims of war!
DeleteMary is stunning with this hairstyle. Great dress, fits her well.
ReplyDeleteRosie
CP Mary looks stunning. I love this dress, nice to see a repeat of it again. Madame Zelenska, looks lovely. The Queen looks well and healthy, very pretty in her ensemble.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen is looking very beautiful - I love her colors. As someone note Mr Zelensky is wearing his best uniform so far. Princess Mary and the First-Lady are looking good too.
ReplyDeleteMagda
I think we have seen this smart dress on Mary at least on one other occasion.
ReplyDeleteHer hair looks particularly lovely today.
Does anyone know why the President' s name ends in sky but his wife's name ends in ska?
@ Cate. In Russian a married woman gets the surname of her husband followed by an "a". f.ex. the wife of former president Gorbatchov surname was Gorbatchova. Russian surnames and proper names when transliterated from the Cyrillic alphabet to our alphabet can be spelled differently in English, French, etc... Rose
DeleteAs Rose says, and apparently it is also true in Ukrainian, at least for some names. I suspect it's a common Slavic naming convention, but I don't know for sure. The patronymic name endings (son of Ivan/ daughter of Ivan) also vary by gender.
DeleteCP Mary is just perfection here. Just gorgeous. Madame Zelensky is not at her best here . She looked so chique at the other events, so this is a bit disappointing
ReplyDeleteMrs Zelenska's skirt is a bit too long and also too wide. The jacket is also too wide and the thin belt doesn't help. She looks better in adjusted blazers. A pity, otherwise a nice change with the first two outfits. Good for her she choose classic colors which can be coordinated with each other or separately with another pair of trousers or skirt. Rose
ReplyDeleteI think this outfit is very smart on Mrs. Zelenska. Although I agree the size appears a bit large for her frame, that doesn't make it a fashion miss for me. The 2 ends of the thin tie-belt should not hang so low, they stand out against the dark color of the skirt and seem out of proportion there. Perhaps she should have tied it in a bow, that would have taken up the excess length. S.M.
DeleteZelensky can't wear a suit? He wore the same khaki garb to meet the US President. Don't tell me he in incapable of it (Mrs. Zelensky dresses well) or it would look 'inappropriate' in a time of war - meeting dignitaries in a suit (or the equivalent based on one's culture) is always appropriate.
ReplyDeleteTo show his solidarity with his soldiers, President Zelensky has said he will dress in army fatigues or at least in army colours while the war continues. Madame Zelenska is not bound by this decision (cf King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in the Second World War)
DeleteThank you AnnieM for your comment.
DeleteI think it is obvious why he is dressed as he is.
Can't understand why the question was asked.
I hate to pure cold water on all of this, but I like to know when this hell is over, does the Ukraine have to pay back the NATO Countries who supplied them with tons of money and weapons? The Taxpayers from all these Nations paid through the nose to help them out? I do know Germany had to pay Restitution to the USA and God knows who else? So, can anyone tell me, did the Ukraine had no Army or weapons to defend their Borders? josebabe
ReplyDeleteThey certainly did have an army and weapons, but one of the great powers attacked them. They didn't have enough. As for paying it back, surely the aggressor should be doing the paying? I doubt anyone will convince Russia to reimburse us, but if you want to try, go for it.
Delete@josebabe, your comment doesn't belong here, this is a fashion blog. You can show your frustration and inhumanity in other forums. (Elena)
DeleteCan we please stick to fashion.
DeleteI think we should go a bit easy on Madam Zelenska. with what she is wearing. Can't imagine the stress and fear she must have for her life and the lives of her two children. Fashion must be very low on her list of priorities. Bravo Madam for the work you are doing for your couhtry. .
@ Anon.22/8 20:58 Josebabe
DeleteYou can't compare Germany with Ukraine. Germany started the war in 1940. In this war it is Russia who started it. If someone has to pay back it is them.
The weapons the Ukrainian army had were soon not enough. They had to ask support to West European (Nato) countries and they are still doing it.. Rose
Dear Annie, You got the point. Mr. Zelensky is no fool and knows exactly what he is doing. His wife has chosen black and white, the colours of mourning, and has chosen a simple style for the very same reason: Solidarity and compassion.
ReplyDelete🌞 Virginia
Thanks to Rose and jonesnori for explaining why the President and his wife have slightly different spelling in their surnames.
ReplyDeleteI had a hunch that the reason was cultural rather than a spelling error.
I see almost nobody here knows history and how things actually went. You think that writing that Russia started the aggression says it all. But its quite different. These two are sending their people to the massacre and they now have a tour in Europe just to get more and more weapons, which will cost more and more blood. And please dont write that this is off topic, because war has to do with all of us, directly or undirectly.
