On July 10, 2023, Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume held a Gala Dinner at Grand Ducal Palace in honour of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender are in Luxembourg on a two-day official visit at the invitation of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess.
Can someone p l e a s e tell her to dress down!!!
ReplyDeleteAh but why dress down when you have important people coming to dinner in a fabulously decorated dining hall? Time to celebrate. Look at those flowers - wow!
DeleteShe always wears the most hideous brightly colored dresses.
DeleteActually she is dress down, have you seen the horrible green dress she was wearing the day before?
DeleteMJT
Agree !!
DeleteYes terrible fashion taste! After flashy green during the day now flashy pink pink to be the centre of attention! She definitely succeeds in grabbing people : 😱
DeleteDo you know what a Gala dinner is?
DeleteI think she looks quite appropriate. That color is fabulous.
DeleteThank you Helen for the photos of the floral arrangements and table decor.
DeleteI give a double wow to the centerpiece. Magnificent.
I wonder if the Duchess chose the colours of the flowers to match her evening gown ?????
Oh, this is a wow ! Color and style suit her perfectly ; what an improvement against yesterday. I just read an article saying 50+ women should wear bright colors. I would however add without exageration, after the green of yesterday there could be a break. Or better, she could have saved us the green ...
DeleteShe looks really nice and appropriate for the occasion.
DeleteOh no!! What's with all the ridiculous sleeves? This dress is shapeless, the sleeves too long.... Maria Theresa tries too hard. She really should get help in choosing not only outfits that suit her body, but also the occasion.
ReplyDeleteYou do realise that the dress doesn't have sleeves? She has a cape over her dress. Strangely enough when other royals do the same we doesn't see these kind of criticism.
DeleteI think you got it wrong, the sleeves are beautifully and softly designed ; and the occasion, well a gala dinner ! What more would you need ?
DeleteI find this Fuchsia dress so flattering on the Grand Duchess, both in terms of color and fit. The grey satin shoes she has paired it with are lovely. And, the president’s wife’s evening trousers outfit suits her beautifully.
ReplyDeleteAnya
I agree. I think she looks good. There´s enough black around, so I like this bright and cheerful colour. The design and fit is flattering; I´d probably just shorten the sheer overlay to make it more practical, especially for a dinner.
DeleteI agree with you. To a gala dinner you don't dress down. The colour and shape are fresh and elegant and with modern jewellerys.
DeleteThe german wife amso looks nice, though she could add some more makeup and maybe choose warmer colours in her clothes?
She should have worn the brown tie neck dress from the other day. If she then added just a little glittering jewellery - not much, just a necklace or some dangly earrings to that, the look would have been perfect for a state dinner.
ReplyDeleteThis pink number makes her look so broad. A simpler necklace, or a thin choker, that didn't hang over the collar would have been better. At least there are no king size ruffles and bows.
- Anon 9:13
A choker would make her short neck even shorter. This necklace is just fine. It breaks the front of the dress. I must admit I don’t understand those negative comments. It’s hard for a short, voloptuous women to always find the right shapes of dresses. GDMT at least makes an effort to always look nice.
DeleteGDMT's jewels look lovely. The major stone, I think, Sapphire, and same for earrings. The color pink, suits her well. I feel the gown is quite nice, but something not quite right. More streamlined would look better. The President's wife looks lovely, more casual ensemble. I'm not sure, is she wearing pants? Her necklace is beautiful, very unusual.
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Duchess’s necklace is a convertible necklace-tiara commissioned by the late GD Josephine-Charlotte; it has a large cabochon sapphire in the middle and small sapphires around the edges of the two side elements.
DeleteThe more I look at the pink dress, the more I think it would look even better if it had spaghetti straps under the cape and either a sweetheart or gentle v-neckline to break up the straight line that’s currently at the top of the dress.
I like this on her. It’s slimming, simple and the color is pretty. Love the jewels! It’s so much better than the green ruffle-sleeves Carolina Herrera dress. That was terrible.
ReplyDeleteI think Maria Teresa looks fabulous this time in this feminine but simple gown in a color that looks great on her. MR
ReplyDeleteMassive improvement on the green thing, GD Maria Teresa wore earlier. Today’s clearly her day for neon brights. The bright pink suits her but again the shape of the dress is doing her no favours. Frau Steinmeier is elegant once more but her outfit is maybe just a little dull. Like the floral and purple outfit in the background of the fourth photo. AnnieM
ReplyDeleteDress down, for a gala dinner?
ReplyDeleteSomebody needs to tell you!
Indeed 😀
DeleteOne is supposed to dress up for a gala dinner, but ... at least for dinners for non-royal people there is one important advice: the hostess should never dress more extravagant than the main female guest. This always "causes problems" when a presidential couple visits a monarchy. One case can be seen here.
DeleteMargot
This is a very nice gown, and the color is great. She must have some moments she doesn't seem to care about what she wears, as long as she like it.I wish Stephanie could have been there too. Well, Mr President and First lady. Welcome to Luxembourg. css
ReplyDeleteThe Queen should have her dress slightly longer to give her more length height.
ReplyDeletePlease note that there is no queen here : MT is Grand-Duchess. I agree however with all those who say the dress should be a bit longer.
DeleteWith all due respect, her necklace is hideous. The GD only needed the earrings with that very bright dress.
ReplyDeleteCVC
Hmmm--great evening gown. Kinda wish she had worn this to her daughter's wedding instead of that giant green bow outfit. The gown looks good on her--the fit is right as is the length. The color is also good--she looks marvelous in bright, vibrant colors. I can't tell for certain but it looks like she has cut her hair. The other day she wore her hair in a more natural style--not so stiff and swept back--I like that look much better that what she has chosen today. But I still greatly prefer her short hair.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Unfortunately that dress makes her look wider than ever. And that necklace….when she owns such lovely jewels, why wear that?
ReplyDeleteOh dear, another unfortunate choice...kim
ReplyDeleteTo be in the centre of attention, she is, with all her extravagant outfits that do not even make her look elegant. This dress, like the green one, makes her look shorter.
DeleteRosie
At least the cut of this dress suites her more than the green Carolina Herrera Dress she wore the other day.
ReplyDeleteGD Maria-Teresa's dress is a good style for her. Unfortunately the dress is a bit too short.
ReplyDeleteNever saw the necklace before. Rose
She is wearing the Art Deco Sapphire Necklace Tiara.
DeleteFor someone who, in my eyes, most of the time, makes very bad choices, this one is good.
ReplyDeleteNice colour for evening- wear, and the cut is really good for her, but:
a short woman needs a dress that is really to the floor and not just too short with her shoes showing.
Mabel
Nastiness to other women without them being able to react back ... there really are other ways to be critical. - This gown is totally appropriate for the occasion, I find the colour beautiful for almost every woman. What I don't really like is the tent-like transparent overlay. I would not like this overlay on anyone, short or tall the same.

Hochadel. In English: The vaults in Luxemburg surely bear many precious pieces. The Granddukes and their wives, also family, are able to choose from a variety of jewels. Apart from the UK, Sweden, and The Netherlands, the Luxemburgs are known for having one of the vastest tiara collection in European high nobility.
DeleteMT is a breath of fresh air. Get so sick and tired of these perfect copy royals. MT looks great. She has a bodycon dress under her cape. Great color. Don't understand the criticism from the readers.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! This is the best I've seen MT look in an age.The dress is beautiful for her figure. She is shorter than the average royal, and does not wear super high heels, which I think is wonderful. Sensible height on the heels is much healthier for the feet. This dress skims her body, so it slims her down. The floaty cape element softens the look, although it could be a bit shorter so it doesn't hang all the way to the floor on the sides. The color and fabric are delicious. As is her modern necklace-love, love, love the jewelry and the way the sapphires are set off magnificently by the fuchsia of the dress. Overall superbly well done, MT! S.M.
DeleteWell, this might be a tad better than the frog-green Carolina Herrera monstrosity of before. The length here, however, is not right. A bit too short. And Mrs. Büdenbender in a jumpsuit if I gather correctly. Black tie event only. No orders, collars and tiaras involved. Perhaps too hot to get decked out in full regalia, methinks.
ReplyDeleteNot the heat but the fact that it is the visit of a president not a king. Some royal houses are taking into account that a president's wife does not have a tiara or big jewelry. Rose
DeleteShe looks beautiful! Love the color and style of the dress!!
ReplyDeleteShe always wants all the attention, hence the bright colours !!
ReplyDeleteAgree Anon 13:50
DeleteAnd you know, I’m beginning to believe that the Duchess has organised the colour of the floral arrangements to highlight the colour of her gown.
I think she knows how to organise a show so that she is the star.
Excuse me did you say the same about Queen Elisabeth? LMAO
DeleteBut....isn't she supposed to be the star?
DeleteWhen senior royalty are hosting, the hostess is always the star, or should always be.
- Anon 9:13
Being the centre of the attention is normal here indeed, and as mentioned Qn Elisabeth applied it extensively, without criticism or almost any. I also agree with the statement that adopting her current hair style was the best decision from the Grd Duchess.
DeleteLike Maxima, MT always wears something wrong, that brings negative attention, rather than make a bit more effort and look elegant. A NO from me, though it is better than the ugly green greeting outfit she wore to greet them.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see someone wear bold and bright colours! Many people seem to be afraid of bright colours, but I really like her dress and colour choices here. There has been enough of dull blues, beiges, grays and blacks lately — seen on the royal ladies, that is.
ReplyDeletePaula
Maria T looks absolutely fabulous 👌
ReplyDeleteTo my eye, the problem with the GD's dress is the unflattering length of the cape, which breaks up the clean lines of the dress and visually cuts her in half. Ideally, the cape should be shorter, 1/3 of the vertical line instead, which would look sleeker and cleaner, while elongating the dress.
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Dutchess' dress would have looked nicer on her, had the chiffon overlay been shorter, hitting below her bust but above her natural waist and the skirt a little longer grazing the top of her shoes. The inches gained by these two things would have helped her by providing an illusion of more length and being in better proportion to her height and figure.
ReplyDeleteTo me, the chiffon overlay makes her outfit look like a maternity dress.
ReplyDeleteThat is exaggeration, and so what ? Have a look at magazines you will see plenty of those.
DeleteDoes maternity dresses still can be bought then ? Since I do not see pregnant women wearing these any more and since I passed the age of being pregnant for a long time, I was wondering.
