On July 5, 2023, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended a performance of 'Orb and Sceptre', The Household Division Beating Retreat - A Military Musical Spectacular, at Horse Guards Parade in London. Orb and Sceptre is a march for orchestra written by the 20th-century English composer William Walton. It was created for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II that took place in Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953.
The Household Division forms a part of the British Army's London District and is made up of five regiments of foot guards and two Household Cavalry regiments. Household Troops, better known as ‘the Guards’, have guarded the British royal family since 1660.

Désolée mais à partir de la première photo, je n'ai pas aimé la couleur de l'imprimé fleuri ; peut-être que dans du rouge, elle aurait eu plus d'allure !
ReplyDeletea plain colour is suitable, more official looking for these events
ReplyDeleteI agree
DeletePretty and very much summer but she can do so much better, don't you think? Aggie
ReplyDeleteLately they (Sophie and Pow) go for summery-apron-association.
DeleteAnother pretty and feminine dress from Sophie.
ReplyDeleteI am about the same age as Sophie so I am always particularly interested in what she is wearing.
Where the Princess of Wales usually goes a bit too far with formal dressing, Sophie chose a slightly too casual dress here in my opinion. Had she "just" been a visitor in the stands, this would've been a great dress - flowy, light, pretty pattern. But when walking with uniformed soldiers and making a somewhat big entrance, I think it's a teeny tiny tad too underdressed. Perhaps the same style, but a more solid colour would've been better. Nevertheless, a pretty outfit that I can see being re-worn on other occasions plenty of times.

I do agree
DeleteI agree. A hat/headpiece/fascinator would have made such a difference here already.
DeleteI agree, too. It´s a pretty dress, but not for a parade. The occasion called for something more formal - no florals, no floaty summer dress but formal attire, ideally something involving a jacket.
Deletesame with Nhs church event, too casual
DeleteYes, I agree, a bit too underdressed for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. And again here, more of an outfit for a garden party than a formal traditional event.
DeleteI agree Nika

Oh no no no this time for me. Boring dress, hope she does not follow Kate’s style!
DeleteNice pattern, but ill-fitted (especially the length of the fabric on the arms) and again, I wonder why she didn't have this tailored. It seems that Sophie wears some things right off the rack. Not to give a negative comparison, but since these two are now the most fashion-conscious British royal ladies, I have to say that I truly believe the reason Kate always looks so impeccably dressed is down to the tailoring specifically to look great on her. Also, she seems to have customized items that are always just a little different from the original design on the models, made just for her. I think it would be nice if Sophie could follow suit, but perhaps it's a matter of financial resources available to do so. Or maybe it's not a priority for her. But she's going to have a more prominent public-facing role for several years to come after Harry and Meghan's exit, so I'd assume she could easily do this as Duchess of Edinburgh but I know that sometimes things aren't what they seem and Kate of course has a seemingly endless clothing budget.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Having her wardrobe altered would make a huge difference. This isn't the first time we have seen sleeves that are too long. Loads of her dresses and skirts need to be taken up as well. Her body looks different when her clothes don't fit properly.
DeleteAside from fashion: she and Edward should have been present in Scotland Edinburgh yesterday ! !
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you; hence, the problem with this version of the slimmed down monarchy. However, it was very important that there were senior royals present for the NHS celebration. Guess the choice was king and heir for the Scottish coromation.

Absolutely! Couldn't Edinburgh have been scheduled for a different day since both were so important? It feels like a fail.
DeleteI think I am tired of long sleeved and high collared (or necklined) midi shirt dresses. Put evenly distributed flowers on them and I just close my eyes and very soon begin to snore. Sure my fault. Anyway, she was flowery yesterday too, but worlds away from this one, she looked excellent. (GM)
ReplyDeleteDear (GM). If you're going to have a good "snore" set the alarm clock so as not to miss the latest additions to NewMyRoyals.😁
DeleteMust be time for Maxima to make an entry. You wouldn't want to miss that, would you?
J apprécie beaucoup la Duchesse Sophie mais aujourd'hui je n aime pas du tout sa robe, c est bien sûr mon ressenti

À lovely summer dress, I think the horse guards are quite content with her!
ReplyDeleteMabel
Lovely dress on her. I am glad that she is taking the less formal, more relaxed look, as other European royals do.
ReplyDeleteLovely summery dress for Sophie--and the blue is such a wonderful color for her.
ReplyDeleteJanet
The ensemble is too casual for the event
ReplyDeleteLovely summery dress but it is too long and the sleeves are also too long. Is she very short so that off the rack clothes are too long for her?
ReplyDeleteLadyofthemanor
This dress would have looked so much more finished, if the had adjusted the buttons on the cuff. Too long in the sleeve, these little touches they miss on Sophie’s outfits too many times.
ReplyDeleteNice pattern on the dress, though sleeves have not been adjusted to Sophie's arm length, and as usual, far too long. For this occasion, the dress is rather too plain, even though it looks nice up close.
ReplyDeleteSimple but nice. Also lovely print. Sophie looks very good. css
