On July 3, 2023, Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the annual holiday camp of Kom op tegen Kanker (Stand up against Cancer) at the Provincial Domain Dommelhof in Pelt. The camp is organized for children and young people aged from 6 to 17 years, during or up to one year after their last treatment for cancer. Provincial Domain Dommelhof is an institution of the province Limburg for culture, performing arts, and sports.
Cancer treatment in children lasts an average of two years. During this period, they are usually unable to go to camps due to the high risk of infection. To take the children out of the hospital atmosphere, the Flemish non-profit organisation Kom op tegen Kanker has been organizing a special camp for them every year since 1989.
Kom op tegen Kanker defends the rights and interests of cancer patients, the right to access the best treatment and care, and the right of people to live in a healthy environment. The organization sets up care centers and provides financial support for scientific research, advocacy, education and prevention.
I like QMathilde in this fresh summery shirt dress and the green earrings by Percosi Papi she wore also with her new green dress in the last event at the Green Houses of Laeken. Rose
ReplyDeleteMerveilleuse association des motifs rose et vert qui donnent un style très estival mais sa ceinture "coupe" trop haut la silhouette de Mathilde !
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks wonderful in this dress! It's summery and classy at the same time. Kom op tegen Kanker is a wonderful organisation, this is a beautiful cause she's visiting. These children must have had the most wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours and the shape of the dress, but I’ll be happy when the gathered, puffy sleeve trend is over. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteAgree ! So do I
DeleteAgreed! I have skinny arms but wide shoulders and these puffy sleeves make me look like a football player 😂
DeleteNice bright dress, the only fault I have with it is the length and tightness of the sleeves. If the were longer and looser it would have a better look, like on the model
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 16:18 The model is skinny and so are her arms. Queen Mathilde isn't, that's why the sleeves are not looking longer and looser. Rose
DeleteThe puffed sleeves look like they belong to a a little girls dress. Not a good look for a mature woman.
ReplyDeleteLadyofthemanor
But yes ofcourse, because little girls wear DVF…
DeleteMature women wore puffed sleeves in the 1930s, 1960s, and 1980s. I am not going to go back further in history because it would take too long. Fashions cycle. Like it or not, puffed sleeves are back. It has nothing to do with little girls. If she starts wearing lace trimmed ankle socks and Mary Janes, you will have an argument.
Delete@Anonymous 23:26 Couldn't have said it better. Rose
DeletePretty
ReplyDeletePretty floral dress--Mathilde looks wonderful here! Love the dress on her.

Self-belt ... I mean, a somewhat twisted and from time to time displaced (e.g. when sitting down) self-string, a piece of cloth that can successfully ruin a dress. Puffy sleeves are fashionable but it is difficult to forget the long-standing association with small girls. This is a No from me. (GM)
ReplyDeleteMathilde, and Maxima for that matter, look better in self belts than those horrible wide belts they love so much. Neither one of these ladies have much of a waist to speak of, and they are both high waisted. A self belt gives them the desire for a belt that they both seem to crave without drawing the eye to their trouble areas. They both must believe they are creating a waist with those awful belts, which they aren't, but a self belt does cinch in the garment and disappear into the fabric. It does a much better job of creating the illusion they are looking for.
DeleteYou sound like having a high waist is some sort of handicap that must be hidden. The whole thing about the belts is trying to tell is in other words that they should be ashamed of something. I think you are a member of the group of people that always have to criticize Queen Mathilde or Queen Maxima. Even if they wear dresses with no belt and cut in a modern shape, you will find something negative to say. You are probably belonging also to the group of people who criticize Queen Maxima's daughter Alexia (of course she is the spitting image of her mother). Queen Mathilde and Queen Maxima are not looking for an illusion, they don't need to. They are 2 completely normal and beautiful women. Do you think that low waisted women are so beautiful ? Do you think that women who are as flat as a man are so beautiful ? Lucky not everyone is measuring with the same instruments than you do.
DeleteI agree inasmuch as those overly broad belts sure do not look good on Mathilde and Max. But I am sorry to respectfully disagree - the self-belt does not do a better job at creating that illusion of a slim waist. I can understand so well that she craves a summery dress with a wide skirt - but this type of dress is simply not the most favourable for her, with or without string in the middle. (GM)
Delete@Anon15:13 It looks like you did a lot of reading between the lines. Being high waisted is hardly a handicap. EVERY body has flaws and understanding fashion is understanding how to accentuate your best features and disguise your trouble areas, not draw attention to them. Without getting into any specifics of either lady, I think they look best with no belts, self belts included. Both women seem to have been advised to wear them (that is my guess.) The reason I didn't mind the self belt as much is because it becomes invisible from a distance or in pictures but gives Mathilde the belt that I think SHE wants or feels she needs. Both women wear fit and flare, particularly Mathilde, for the same reason. When wearing styles that don't define a waist, I think they look their best. There are many examples of both looking like they are in different bodies, all because of the illusion different fabrics, patterns and silhouettes can create -- both positive and negative. That is where blogs like this come in, to discuss our opinions.
DeleteMoving from opinions to assumptions...NO , I do not run in the camp of people that have something negative to say about Maxima or Mathilde. I was being critical of the wide belts they wear, thanks to Nathan. Honestly, where do you get off making a leap like that? THEN you double down and bring Maxima's daughter into this? I don't know if you meant Amalia because we have discussed her fashion here before or if you really did mean Alexia, just 18. Either way, you owe me an apology. DO NOT make assumptions about me or the way I view a woman's body. You have no evidence of anything, such as "Do you think that low waisted women are so beautiful ? Do you think that women who are as flat as a man are so beautiful ? Lucky not everyone is measuring with the same instruments than you do." [sic] I am one of the few that defends Maxima, especially in regards to her hair when no one else will, or I say nothing at all. I don't jump on the bandwagon of negativity just to say something as so many do. If I can't say something constructive or new, it doesn't need to be said. NEVER, EVER do I attack a person's body. I will not get into it, but if Helen can track us by IP address, she can attest to what I have said. I hope the same can be said for you.
Lastly, @Anon15:18 (GM) I appreciate your respectful response. I think we agree about self belts for Mathilde overall.
What a fun, summery dress. She looks great.

È deliziosa, mi piace con questo abito.

This is a very lovely dress. Mathilde looks great in green. A nice DVF design. css
ReplyDeleteThis is a very pretty dress, love the color combination. I don't find the sleeves nice, but regardless the Queen looks fabulous. This was a beautiful visit.
ReplyDeleteThe dress certainly has got summer vibes about it.
ReplyDeleteBut to me, it looks too heavy and too full for a comfortable cotton poplin summer dress.
But then, maybe a summer in Belgium is not the same as a summer in southern Europe and light, flimsy, free flowing fabrics are not necessary.
But above all, her visit and interest in this subject is praiseworthy.
A memorable occasion for the children, their family and friends.
Thank you Queen Mathilde.🧡
Love every bit of your comment.

The reason for the visit is outstanding. The Queen's dress is too heavy with pink splotches, looks too much like the typical 'shirt dress' that seems to be appearing more and more these days, which is just too casual. Gemma
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks really lovely, fresh and summery. Love this dress on her and the visit of course.
